FIFA 21 is a really fun game for football (soccer) fans. Like any game, there are pros and cons, so I will include some in case you have yet to buy the game. For me, the game mode that I play the most is FUT (ultimate team), so most of what I say has to do with this game mode.Pros: -In-game player movements improved compared to FIFA 20. It is a bit easier to control players in the defensive end and catch up to your opponent. Slide tackles are more effective.- They are constantly updating the game to fix glitches, add new items, etc.- One of the biggest pros: there are a lot more options in ultimate team.- In previous years, in FUT, you could only play rivals and squad bottles by yourself, but they added a new co-ops feature where you can buddy up with a friend ... MoreFIFA 21 is a really fun game for football (soccer) fans. Goal celebrations (pyro, confetti, etc), crowd chants, pitch patterns, etc. Customize practically every aspect of your stadum. I really like this new addition because it is more visually pleasing. You can change the colors of the seats, goal, tifos, etc. They have continued to add new features to customize your stadium.- FIFA 21 has been releasing a lot more objectives to complete for those that want to do them. There are a lot more options for additional rewards, but you of course have to work for them if you want them. They added new "friendly game" challenges to complete for rewards (reward is a special card/player). With that being said, I am more intrigued to stay playing the game with these new challenges / objectives.-There are a lot of things I can continue to praise, but this will probably go on way too long so I'll stop right here.Cons: - The game continues to have some glitches. There have been quite a few times where the servers have been down without prior notice. I have seen many people complain about that already. However, the creators do a great job listening to feedback and try to correct the issues as quick as possible.- It is still not possible to cross play. That is, you still can't play against friends that play this exact game on a different console. I want to be able to play this game against friends that have a different console than me. I have heard that they plan on making the game cross play so you can play against players with a different console as you, which is a positive. They have yet to determine when that will be available, but I will be ecstatic when that happens. But for now, Xbox players play against Xbox and PlayStation players play against PlayStation.Overall, it is a great game. I'm sure you'll find yourself playing the game for hours with all the different game modes they have available.

I don't know what got into EA this year. This is usually their most solid sports title. But they decided to tamper with the Goalkeepers and it was an EPIC fail. They don't save a thing. Even with no angle at all, strikers will still kick it passed them either via nutmeg or right through their hands. It really does ruin the game. Especially since Attacking control is superb. So it results in many a 5-4 like games. I regularly score 7-8 goals on Ultimate / Competitor difficulty. And as someone who wants realism from their simulation sports games, i hate that.

Hard to Recommend

As a buyer of the last ten or so FIFA's, this one stands out as mechanically the worst one yet.Decent graphics, but I still think some of the players just look WAY OFF. and this fifa's engine is WORSE than '20, which is almost hard to understand! The game makes it so easy to attack, and much harder to defend. They obviously emphasize FUT and online play because the computer is the weirdest AI to play against. on the higher difficulties, you are stuck with an AI where, no matter what player or team they are playing as, they are way more likely to out-possess you. they do the weirdest trick moves and play in a manner that is just weird, I have no other way of describing it. Otherwise, it will be the first FIFA I do not buy in years. This one is the first one I TRULY regret buying at launch.

I don't know Euros, or why I need to
17 September 2021

I have been playing FIFA games since 2001, at least. I am obsessed with soccer and enjoy playing versions with updated rosters, fewer glitches, and smooth gameplay. This iteration has all of that, sure. But when I was playing Manager mode, playing as the Manager of the Premier League Yankees (MUFC), a player's contact renewal came up. Contact renewal. But for whatever reason, a transfer fee was included. I ain't so bright, so entered zero, I mean I already had player on roster. Long story short, my management was terminated (and I was dominating...on "Professional" difficulty). Left such a poor taste in my mouth, haven't played it since.

Noticeable Upgrade from PS4 version
3 December 2020

Nice upgrade from PS4 version. FIFA for PS5 takes advantage of the haptic features on the new controller. It's a really nice touch, adds some excitement to the game.Graphics are incredible - the amount of detail is noticeable. I even feel like they upgraded the player tendencies and mannerisms. For example I've noticed Erling Haaland's running style looks improved and more realistic than the PS4 version of the game. The fans/tifos/flags look great in the background. I feel like there's more commitment to the ambiance of each stadia.I still wish they had the licenses for all the Champions League teams but it's nice to have the official license for CL.

Despite promising myself I wouldn't buy this game until legitimate improvements have been made, I broke that promise and decided to give it a chance since it was on sale. Immediate reaction when starting my first game was to pause and make sure the game I was playing wasn't Fifa 16 because the graphics were so grainy and poor on my 65" 4k tv. They appear to only have worked on cutscene graphics. I'm a career mode traditionalist and the career mode hasn't changed at all. Basically two improvements (player position change and customized training/rest schedules) but other than that nothing. Gameplay lacks any creativity or tact. The Beautiful Game Returns for another season!
31 October 2020

This year's FIFA (FIFA 21) feels like a more refined version of last year's game - which is a good thing. Players recover from missed tackles, bumps and tumbles better and more realistically. It so feels more like a defensive game than offensive which is also a plus.Career mode is solid again. Volta is even more fun since online play has added this year (but hopefully EA is working on a patch to fix the "unable to set up match" error in this mode). I don't play the FUT (FIFA Ultimate Team) mode so I can't really speak on it.Overall, the graphics are beautiful, the sound is on point and makes you feel like you are in a fan packed stadium and it's a ton of fun for soccer/futbol fans. Typical debut entrant into the next gen for FIFA
30 December 2020

FIFA has been a long-standing franchise and I have many, mostly pleasant memories of most annual instalments since the year 2000. So almost 20 years later I know exactly what I'm getting into as an experienced FIFA player and knowledgeable consumer. I think it fair to compare this FIFA to other console debuts and I'll begin with FIFA 2001.FIFA 2001 for PS2 was a fair leap forward graphically and I still play it to this day. FIFA 21 has far more modes including online and Volta which I feel is not given credit for evolving the game, given all the noise about FIFA 98s indoor mode with fans eager for FIFA to include it as a game mode ever since 1997-98.The PS3 came along and so did FIFA 08 which I never played due to not having the funds to buy the expensive PS3. ... MoreFIFA has been a long-standing franchise and I have many, mostly pleasant memories of most annual instalments since the year 2000. From memory though, it did strip features that had been slowly building on the PS2 engine. So here is where we begin to see a pattern of EA not keeping features across the generations. Perhaps this is understandable given the 12 month development cycle but it is something the savvy consumer should be aware of. As internet gaming forums and sites grew in popularity so did the potential for hype and here also is where the 'noise' comes in. 'Noise' being paid opinions or reviews, anti-EA consumers, now with platforms to air their frustrations with the above mentioned removed features and assumed laziness of the developers. However, all in all, the movement of players in the PS3 debut really lead the way for what next-gen could do.The next FIFA to debut on a Sony home console was FIFA 14 on PS4. Now, this was a fun game and a big step up graphically. It still holds up to this day and is good for a quick play. The rise of Ultimate Team at this point saw less effort put into career mode, a trend which has continued in each annual update. So here we are, if you are lucky enough to have a shiny new PS5 console, you should definitely upgrade to FIFA 21. EA have done just enough to justify a full-price purchase if you held off buying FIFA 21 for Xbox or PS4 in 2020. Those of us with experience in the way EA Sports do things will know that this is the first building block on the way to true next-gen experiences that we will keenly look forward to into the 2020s.I will say before I finish the review is that until FIFA 21 PS5, I have not purchased FIFA on day one since 2015 as I felt the incremental updates were not worth my time. This began a patient game of waiting until a sale and therefore I was able to gain enjoyment in the last 5 FIFAs and great value. For those who have to wait to buy FIFA 21 due to the shortage of PS5s in Australia, you won't be missing out on much. The incremental upgrade that is this debut next-gen FIFA is still the best FIFA available and best football game with Konami not releasing a next-gen PES just yet. In fact, there is a good chance many consumers will be getting FIFA 22 on PS5 a having a more enjoyable and immersive experience as the developers come to terms with the new hardware. Again though, those that can, should, and those that can't can just watch let's plays on YouTube

25 February 2021

Pros: I only buy a new FIFA game every few years as the changes are not often enough to justify buying a new game every year. The last FIFA game I owned was FIFA 19, and the changes made between then and now are quite significant, especially with the improved capabilities of the PS5. Loading times are fast, Haptic Touch feedback on the controller is a nice touch, and there are small graphical improvements between the PS4 and PS5 version. Gameplay feels smooth and career mode has been given an extra boost, which is great given that I spend most of my time on this mode. There are improved stadium noises and a new camera angle in-game to simulate a ‘real game’ on TV, which I really enjoy. The graphics are not that different from the FIFA 19 I had on my PS4 - there have been small improvements and the scans of players look better, but overall you will not notice a huge difference. The EA servers are the same as they have been for years, terrible.
