Not just that , K5 Pro has added life to my old earphones and headphones, which I otherwise thought of disposing off.5) The gain toggle really boosts up the frequencies and gives fuller mids and rich bass. I however never felt the urge to go beyond level 2 gain (+6dB).6) Not just music, but movies, classes, games sound so much better and immersive with K5 Pro.7) K5 Pro has a really efficient DAC chip that can play DSD512 files. But what I do, as advised by Mr. Pritam from TAS, is to stack it with a MQA dongle. It definitely works for me. Definitely looks that it would last a long time.2) The FiiO Customer Support is awesome. The support staff is quick to respond and provides quick resolution. I reached out to them with DSD playback setup and they quickly helped me configure my player and K5 Pro for DSD Playback.3. Lastly, big thanks to The Audio Store & especially to Mr. Pritam for helping me choose the right DAC/AMP to pair with my headphone and for the lightening fast delivery and support. All in all I'd just say that this FiiO K5 Pro could be endgame for majority beginner audiophiles looking for a budget desktop setup .

I've always liked the FiiO DACs. They are always well built and provide very good sound for a decent cost. Their K5 Pro seems to be no different except maybe even easier to connect. The only issue I had was not knowing I had to go into Windows Sound Devices Properties to find Advanced and update the Sample and Bit Rates. Google is great help for that. After the lights around the volume knob operated correctly. The sound is as good as any I've heard. I've tried about 15 different DACs. Are there better DACs out there?? Probably. My guess is they would cost a lot more.

Great Amp Dac for
25 August 2022

The k5 came just as described, in great condition, and works perfectly. I bought it as a second unit for my friend's new pc. It has been about a month and she has absolutely loved the Dac. She's pairing it with a Philip SHP9500, the k5 Pro does a good job pushing power and providing clarity with these headphones. I currently pair the unit with EPOS's H6 Pro - Open Backs and I've gotta say it's been my best experience with audio setups sofar.

And if you are able to make those comparisons, you will tend to find yourself doing a reevaluation of a particular unit (and maybe not for the better either). That is exactly what happened with my recently acquired Fiio K50 Pro.To preface my remarks, I do quite a few blogging reviews for various audio clubs and as such, have the opportunity of reviewing a variety of audio gear. My main focus has been - and will continue to be - audio gear priced at $250 and below (budget gear - since that's where most folks tend to congregate). It's taken me awhile, but I finally (just recently) purchased a K5 Pro, and here are my impressions:I evaluated this unit primarily as a Preamp, feeding powered monitors (in this case the Presonus E5 XT 5 powered monitors and the Mackie 8 powered CR8S-XBT subwoofer). Headphone listening incorporated the HiFiMan Sundara, the i400 version 2020, Philips SHP 9500, and the Sivga 007. I connected the K5 Pro to my desktop PC using the USB input with an iFi USB line conditioner attached. Cables used were Audioquest USB Pearl cables, along with World's Best Cables RCA cables.Right off the bat, I found the K5 Pro to be more adept at powering headphones, and the sound quality I experienced via the headphone out was on par with many other DAC/Head-Amp units. Most of my remarks below are based primarily on my listening to it through powered monitors, which I know many people do.1. Build quality - no issues here. It is a larger unit (actually, thicker from top to bottom) with an all metal chassis. It is quite an attractive unit with a large volume know and two switches that control source input and headphone gain.2. Sound with regard to tonality and sound-staging - When listening to the K5 Pro (alone without comparisons), it sounded fine with a laid back sound-stage. Noticeable right away is that the sound-stage is pushed back, further to the rear, and the tonality of instruments tend to be on the brighter side. Sound-staging was nothing extraordinary with regard to the width of the stage. The depth you hear or perceive is the result of the sound-stage being projected further back. Now things do change when comparing the K5 Pro with the likes of the iFi ZenDAC, Schiit Stack (Modi3+ and Modi IEMagni), and two sets of separates - those being: 1) the JDS Atom DAC+ with Douk Audio Tube Hybrid P1 head amp, and; 2) Topping D10S DAC with the xDuoo tube hybrid MT-602 head amp.3. Bass - Although one would be happy with the bass capabilities of the K5 Pro, it is nothing out of the ordinary, and in the case of classical music - with the sound-staging pushed further back - the bass is a bit too recessed for (for my tastes). When listening via headphones, the sound-staging is brought up a bit and becomes more personal in nature.4. Mids and Highs - Via powered monitors, I did not like the way the K5 Pro sounded at all, and I realize this is subjective as no two folks will agree on sound issues. The tonality and instrumental timbre of different instruments was not accurate in my opinion - with an overall, thinner, brighter sound. Using the Schiit stack as a reference, the K5 Pro had a weaker, thinner, less dynamic performance. Some midrange instruments, such as horns and various brass, had a grating quality when listening to certain classical musical pieces. The highs were present, but again - when compared with the other DAC/Amp combinations mentioned above, the K5 took a noticeable last place. There is another issue that I believe may or may not be confined just to my setup. I use all of my DAC's connected by USB to a professional desktop PC system (I'm a photographer also). With any Fiio DAC's attached to my system via USB, whenever I put the system to sleep or hibernate mode, and then wake up the PC from either of those modes, The F5 is not recognized by the PC. I have to then either turn off the volume knob and back on again, or briefly disconnect and reconnect the USB cable for the PC to recognize the unit again. I experienced the same scenario with the smaller K3 DAC from Fiio. I don't know why this happens, but no other DAC that I've used with my system (so far, over 32 of them) never had this issue. It occurs just with the Fiio DAC units that I tried, and I've read a few personal reviews in which the users experienced the exact same thing. In the end, when compared with other DAC/Amp combinations I happened to list in this review, the K5 Pro paled in comparison and, with the recognition issue I just mentioned above, I made the decision to send it back for a refund. In the end, all reviews are subjective in nature - your mileage may vary. And like I said during the opening of his missive, if this is the only DAC you have, and you find it wonderful sounding, then who am I to rain on your parade? Remember, however, I have to make comparisons and I wind up being able to try a variety of different units, and the differences can be striking to say the least. In my opinion, you should look at the following for better audio capabilities:1. Schiit Stack (comprised of the Modi 3+ DAC with the Magni 3 or IEMagni head-amp/preamp).2. ZenDAC (there is now a version II out - I will be curious to see how that compares with the original version).3. Topping D10S DAC coupled with the xDuoo MT-602 Hybrid Tube Head-Amp.Thanks for listening...

Multiple purposes, space saving, and superb performer!
8 February 2021

I dedicate this DAC+Amp next to my Yamaha KX-10 cassette deck. It only takes a small space to perform multiple functions in my already crowded computer bench. It is my headphone amp for listening to the deck on my highly sensitive T1, and more critically, it serves as the DAC to the cassette recording deck for converting FLAC and also the converter from my D-303 Discman's SPDIF output. Of course occasionally I would listen to my computer or cellphones via its DAC function. K5 Pro is almost one for everything. I am hoping its next gen could get a balanced output then that'll be perfect for my usage. DSD is okay. Just please do not add Bluetooth.

Sounds Great with Sennheiser HD 6xx
27 April 2021

First the criticism. I feel like some people might think that the amp is a bit quiet. For my listening preferences and the Sennheiser HD 6xx headphones I've never turned the volume past noon and leave the gain at the lowest setting.I bought this to replace a Fulla 3 I bought mainly for the microphone input and as my first low grade audiophile amp. I was impressed by the volume and fullness of the sound, but there was a fair amount of pops when sound started playing in Windows. Additionally, I would hear a pop when certain applications would start.Well, I don't have any of that with the FiiO. They get plenty loud for me and I don't hear any sort of odd pops or clicks in Windows. The volume control is digital, but I'm very pleased with dialing in the volume level ... MoreFirst the criticism. I feel like some people might think that the amp is a bit quiet. Superb !
8 November 2021

Simply the best at this price. Had a K5 earlier docked with Fiio X5 MIII for DAC support. The main issue with the previous gen docked systems was that it didn't correctly detect the overhead DAC unit many a times and one needed to remove, clean and re-insert the DAC unit for it to work. With the new K5 Pro already having a built in state of the art DAC and a USB controller, not only the sound quality has improved, but also the dock problems have been addressed.

small lightweight dac/amp packs a heavy punch
10 November 2021

When I got it I was only able to try it with my Beyer dt990 pro (250) headphones and the usb cable provided and oh boy did it came to life! But wait, there's more! it allows you to also use speakers via Line Out RCA in the back, tho it bypass the GAIN (only used by headphone jack) it still provides crystal clear sound, pure bliss.Today I bought more cables to be able to hook it to my Samsung tv, -which only offers optical out and my old sound devices are all analog- and of course it worked just fine.I'm not sure anything is missing here FOR THE PRICE, the volume knob feels nice and the frame is all metal, black no flashy rgb, no UFO shape, minimalistic style.Still, think I'll move it back to my PC desktop where I work, study and -occasionally- game.
