Seeing as most of the people here, myself included have purchased this product for their residential Dishwasher there is a fundamental flaw here. As a licensed Plumber in California Universal plumbing codes do not allow a plumber to set the temperature on a water heater above 120 degrees. This is done to prevent scalding. And since most midline to low end residential dishwashers do not have a reheater in them to get the required 160-180 degrees to melt the wax properly this seems to render the dispensing mechanism(Wax Plug) defective. The only way i can see to get this to work properly is to heat water to just below boiling and pour it in the unit and then run the hottest setting. Maybe its time to rethink their dispenser.

I wish I had read the reviews before buying this so believe me and the other reviews when we say that the toxic chemical smell is NOT worth it. I’ve been wanting to clean my dishwasher for a while and came across this product in the store. I’ve always liked Finish products so I figured I’d give it a shot as it seemed easy enough. I followed the directions exactly. A while after the cycle finished, I barely opened the dishwasher a few inches and was overwhelmed with an intense chemical smell. I immediately shut the door and decided to let it settle down a bit. Later on I went upstairs and could smell it up there even though it had been open barely 30 seconds. The next day, I was cautiously optimistic that after running a regular load, it would dissipate. It did not. ... MoreI wish I had read the reviews before buying this so believe me and the other reviews when we say that the toxic chemical smell is NOT worth it. Was smelling it again as I lay in bed trying to sleep *upstairs* last night. I just finally unloaded the dishes and they all smell - I re-washed by hand all the plastic as I don’t trust to use it as is and simply rinsed everything else with water. I really don’t have time for multiple washing. Can’t wait for it to eventually wash out - will never ever use this again. It did get the dishwasher clean but it’s not worth the headache this likely will be for the next few weeks.

Did an incredible job cleaning the scale built up on the stainless and plastic surfaces on the interior. Your hot water heater or dishwasher must have enough heat to melt the wax plug on the opening on this product. Tip: when ready to start cleaning cycle, run your kitchen sink until hot water is flowing. Start the longest, hottest sanitize cycle on your dishwasher. When cycle is complete, wipe down the inside with a towel for best results. Made my dishwasher look like new. Only negative is a chemical smell from the chemicals used to break down scale. I assume oder will go away after a few cycles. Not as offensive to me as what some have said. There may be other options that smell better but this product does a great job cleaning scale.

I waited until I had a solution to write this review. Just clean it by hand!!! It took 2 months to get the smell out of the dish washer. I used finish Powerball deep clean tablets, empty cycle about 5 times on highest setting. This is the only thing I found to get the strong chemical smell out. Not even vinegar would help. Please read reviews, the smell is horrible and took 2 months, but if you do use it follow up with finish Powerball deep clean tablets. It does work, but be prepared for the after smell. Hope this helps
Our dishwasher was not too dirty. It more so had lots of white residue inside. So I thought I would get this. It worked very well. So easy to use. It's a single use bottle (be aware of that) It's not a bottle that you pour a little into the dishwasher for repeated uses. So, you peel the covering off the bottle opening, and set it upside down in the dishwasher (the directions show you how to do it). Turn your dishwasher to the hottest (pot and pan or tough setting) and start the dishwasher. That's it. Boy, the dishwasher was so shiny afterwards! This cleaned it so well. The only thing (and it isn't bad) I would say is after I opened the dishwasher for the first time after it cleaned. There was a strong smell inside. NOT a bad smell.......just a strong scent from the cleaner. I left the dishwasher door open overnight to help the smell dissipate. There is still a slight smell, but I am running the dishwasher today (first time since I cleaned it 2 days ago) and I'm sure the smell will be gone once I run a cycle. I would still recommend!
When I purchased my house, it came with a very cheap dishwasher. Considering this, I am careful to do preventative maintenance to make sure I get the most out of the dishwasher I have. I live in an area that is known for hard water. About every month/ every other month/ when I start to see hard water left behind, I run the dishwasher with one of these cleaners. Be sure to read the directions and follow them correctly to make the most of the cleaning cycle. These have continued to keep my dishwasher looking and running like new. I recommend these to friends and family to help preserve the integrity of their dishwashers as well.
I'm sorry, but all y'all who are complaining that the treatment made your dishes, bottles, etc. smell like chemicals...READ THE DIRECTIONS. It clearly says to run WITHOUT a load of dishes inside. I agree that there is a lingering smell even after running it on empty, but since I've put my hand down the traps and have seen the scum and lime buildup, I was also not kidding myself about the strength of chemical that would be needed to clean that up. That said, if these chemicals bother you, you'd better not read what's in normal dishwasher detergent either. Likewise, all your plastics, rubber gaskets, dishwasher shelves are already bleeding phthalates onto your clean dishes. This (1x month treatment) is not what's going to cause you troubles. If you're inclined to worry about the after effects, run vinegar instead and get ready to put some serious effort in for only part of the results (and run the risk of ruining your dishwasher).
I love this product... i first purchased to just clean the washer, and it did a great job! the stainless steel inside my washer was cloudy and started looking gross! I live in an area with extremely hard water. After the first pass with the Finish Dishwasher Cleaner, it was sparkling clean, like the day it arrived. all visible hard water stains were gone. Then i got to thinking about my vent hood stainless steel grease collecting grills and drip pan. These are coated in Grease and are extremely hard to clean! So i gave it a try, with the dishwasher empty except for the Finish Cleaning Pack and the Vent hood parts, we ran it... the vent hood parts come out very clean, but not 100% and the dish washer comes out clean as well.I immediately added the Finish ... MoreI love this product... i first purchased to just clean the washer, and it did a great job! the stainless steel inside my washer was cloudy and started looking gross! I followed the directions on the packaging and encountered no issues in that regard. The product definitely did leave a slight smell in my dishwasher afterward. I read the reviews beforehand, so I expected this, but I figured it would be a "cleaning product" smell (strong, but not necessarily bad). Instead, it was just a weird, moderately unpleasant smell... almost like something burned. Luckily it wasn't very strong, maybe because the inside of my dishwasher looks like stainless instead of plasticky. Furthermore, the product did work pretty well, but not 100%. My dishwasher still had some white hard water deposits around it, especially on the bottom. However, I WOULD still recommend this product! I had previously tried running multiple cycles with vinegar to clean my dishwasher, but that wasn't working on its own. But when I used this product AND THEN used vinegar afterward, it was an excellent combination. My dishwasher looks brand new, smells 95% normal, and is working great now. In summary, this is what I did: 1. I manually removed, cleaned & disinfected, and then put back all the filter components at the bottom of the dishwasher 2. I used this Finish product as directed (run your kitchen tap until it's very hot right before you start the dishwasher) 3. I ran a quick cycle with a small amount of detergent and dishes (mostly to combat the weird smell) 4. I used some paper towels, a cleaning toothbrush, and white vinegar to spot clean remaining hard water deposits and any nooks & crannies on the bottom 5. I lightly sprayed the whole interior of the dishwasher (racks & walls) with white vinegar 6. I put a 1-cup liquid measuring cup full of white vinegar upright in the top rack, and I ran a long, hot cycle (with no dishes or detergent)
I do have to say that I am very pleased with this dishwasher cleaning solution. At least once a month I pull the filter from my dishwasher and clean it thoroughly by hand then use some type of dishwashing machine cleaner to clean the entire tub as well as the filter, after most of those other products the inside tub on the machine would still have a filmy residue and just did not have a clean smell. I have only used this one time and it left my dishwasher sparkling clean and it smelled sooooooooo fresh!! The stainless steel interior has a nice shine and the clean smell has lasted through several uses. This will definitely be my go to product for maintaining the cleanliness of my dishwasher.
