Fiskars Splitting Axe M X17

(454 reviews)

Fiskars X17 axe is a medium sized axe for splitting medium size logs. As such it is highly suitable for both sexes and still packs a solid splitting force. This axe has an optimal 35 degree convex cutting bevel angle for splitting axes. The convex shape strengthens the edge to make it less sensitive to fracture while the balance of the axe makes it safe, comfortable and efficient to use. Its optimal anti shock surface structure ensures a comfortable, firm grip which is further reinforced by the hooked handle end which prevents slippage. As with other axes in the X series range, this axe features a plastic sheath for easy carrying and storage.

This X25 axe is so much safer to use than my old no-name splitting maul. I don’t have to swing it from overhead so it’s also more accurate. It rarely gets stuck and releases easily if it does. I’m splitting seasoned hardwood logs up to 10” diameter and this is the right tool for the job. Excellent!

I bought the Fiskars X25 after reading recommendations from a wood burning and seasoning group on Facebook.I was dubious at first due to the plastic composite handle as I am used to the traditional wood handle I have on my Gränsfors Bruks axe. However the X25 is pure joy to use and splits wood like a hot knife through butter, there is nothing like that klonk as the axe hit a log of oak and it splits in two with minimal effort!I can highly recommend the X25 and will be buying a smaller Fiskars kindling axe from FFX too! 👍🔥

My first splitting axe, and I confidently expect it to be my last. Splits rounds like a dream, and for my medium build I’d say it has the perfect balance of weight and length. Comfortable to use for long periods, and built to last. Highly recommended.

Best ax you'll ever buy
2 June 2021

The 17 inch is amazing for any and all back country needs. Light enough and glides through logs like butter. Excellent for medium size logs and smaller. The 23 inch is what I would recommend for a home set up. It a bit to heavy for the backcountry. But amazing in every other way. I have them both. Bought from Cabela's

Excellent axe
12 June 2022

I bought this x11 specifically as a one hand splitting axe for chunks after I'd broken them down with my x25 axe. The x11 is a splitting shape head vs the x10 that's the same size but lacks splitting cheeks.I love it, it will tackle decent sized rounds and already split pieces turn to kindling even easier.Knotty wood will always be tricky but it's not designed for that.Take a few minutes to learn how to use it and wear the very slippery film off it and you're laughing.

Finnish at its finest

The handle is a little shorter than it should but its an extremely sharp and durable axe. Proper Finnish steel and craftmanship is worth the cost. Don't buy some cheap axe or splitter, spend the extra money and buy Fiskars. I was suffering trying to split some wood with a cheap axe, bought this and splitting wood became fun.

Great Axe
6 November 2021

Frankly speaking, I was a bit worried about the quality of the Axe before purchasing. But when I picked it up from Mitre 10, I was so satisfied with its quality. The weight, length and the grab and the work I have done with it was much better than I expected. However, I think you have to be careful with the size of the Axe you are purchasing. To help with the size, I recommend you should watch the video clip attached on the description. Good luck!

One Of The Best Tools Ive Ever Bought!!!

So Ive fallen in love with this axe after using it on a 3 day camping trip! Its a great weight for camping as the handle is completely hollow, yet it never vibrates or feels weak - its very robust (multiple purchasers testify to that after many years). It arrived razor share, so it bites into the wood very easily. And because its a splitting axe the angle and the shape causes it to glide through the wood. Its build quality it epic. Its never going to fall apart, no matter how many miss-hits you swing. And the sheath/carry case (genius idea) is great for protecting the edge & yourself. If there were any negatives, it may have been better just a few inches longer. But having said that, if it was it probably wouldnt be ideal for camping chores. If you only want to chop fire wood, then try the X25 (longer and heavier). If you want an a-rounder for camping/bushcraft, this ones (X17) is PERFECT!!! Listen: You want be disappointed, I promise you! Hope that helps guys!

Perfect Small Axe!!!
24 July 2021

After much online reading about the Fiskars X-11 splitting axe I purchased one.The size was just right. I use it during tent camping, either by vehicle or watercraft access.I find it compact enough not to be a burden. More importantly this “mini axe” split my campfire wood just fine. Then again where a hatchet style head would be better for chopping, or so I’ve read, this tool serves my purpose perfectly!I like the length as it allows two handed swinging for thicker wood splits.I also think the carry case is ideal. No cordura to fray or leather to rot, no rivets to corrode! Plus a built in handle.Top all this with a Lifetime warranty and it’s a Winner⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️One more thing...Blair’s Farm & Fleets has The Best Price!!

Wish I had bought one sooner

I bought this today, just finished an afternoon of splitting Australian Hardwood (Turpentine). Wish I had bought one of these 10 years ago. Got sick of replacing broken timber axe handles.Splitting with this axe is so much easier than my block splitter. The reviews I read before buying this were correct. It is a sharp, well balanced splitter. You would last much longer using this than a heavy block splitter. It even goes through twisted timber in the first hit usually. Can't verify its durability, but there is a good video on YouTube where someone tries to test it to destruction. Can't do it. He shoots it with a shotgun in the end to try and break it.I am a 6feet tall man who found the length perfect.
