The new Fizik R5 Tempo Overcurve is a cycling shoe for all. Designed as a quick to fit road cycling shoe that is suitable for every rider and every ride. In recent seasons the R5 has become a more refined shoe that packs masses of bang for your buck into an elegant looking yet functional piece of footwear. The R5 Tempo Overcurve delivers an essential, timeless look that you would expect both of the Italians, and far more expensive models; this is thanks to its borrowed features from the range topping R1 and the use of less exotic materials which come together to offer versatile performance and which make every ride enjoyable. Fizik have (yet again!) changed the naming of their ranges, introducing TEMPO and VENTO (literally translated as Time and Wind) to offer a guide to the intended use of the pieces to which they refer. The Tempo is a range designed for training, leisure and general, enjoyable road cycling rather than the Vento which - as the name alludes to - is more about speed and performance. With the R5 Tempo Overcurve, the classic considerations of a road shoe have been redefined with a distinct Fizik identity and a smart form-fitting construction using the R1 derived Overcurve fitting. Overcurve is a shoe construction featuring a staggered collar that wraps around the ankle, tracing the natural misalignment of the ankle’s two bony protrusions: the lateral and medial malleoli, as well as the overall natural shape of the foot. The result is an asymmetrical shape, with the throat of the shoe curving over the foot, from its outside to its inner side. The closure is fast and secure, facilitated by a micro-adjustable Boa IP1 dial and a single Velcro strap for a fine tune fit of the forefoot area. The R5 Nylon composite outsole is supple and comfortable even in the long haul but without compromising pedalling efficiency.
