87V has the standard Fluke quality. High accuracy and well established reputation as a testing tool. Buy once, and keep it for ever -- hopefully. However, as a small nit, the rear (yellow) plastic flap was a little uneven surface, perhaps a manufacturing issue -- would expect better QC from Fluke. Fluke should package this product better. This is an expensive unit, and it is almost packed like a 25 dollar unit!Buying online from Lowes was a pleasure, and a breeze. Shipping was very quick.

FLUKE-87-5 / 87-V does it all.

The FLUKE-87-5 is easy to use, accurate, and versatile. It is heavy enough to stay in place horizontally or vertical using the builtin stand. It is nice being able to do temperature measurements in both C and F with a type K thermocouple instead of a low accuracy thermistor. It defaults to 4 digits, but at the press of a button it becomes a 4 1/2 digit meter.

I just received my very own fluke 87-5 dmm. I have been using a 87-5 for work over the past 20 years. Here is why I highly recommend this meter. I work on oil & gas rigs and platforms offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. The fluke is subjected to sun, heat, wind, rain, cold, fog, salt water air and being banged around while being transported by boat and helicopters. The meter has never failed me other than the battery or me measuring a 12 volt battery with lead still in amp jack. I use this meter to measure amp draw on fog horns which range from 1A to sometimes over 10A. I also use the min/max feature for capturing peak voltage at 12v flashers for nav-aid lanterns. Tequipment is awesome company to deal with and I will do business with them in the future.

Fluke 87-V
18 April 2017

I am glad I spent the extra money to get the 87-V. Fluke has a great warranty and the durability to withstand abuse in the field.I will be be working in the aviation industry, and currently maintain my own aircraft. The fast and sensitive continuity test is an essential feature for trouble shooting. It does everything a good meter should and does it accurately and reliably.I have also been putting together electronic kits and it has been great for checking values, etc.. The increased resolution comes in handy as well. The only odd thing is the leads that are supplied with the meter do not fit the slots in the rubber case...go figure? Tequipment.net has been great to do business with.

Fluke model 87V Multi-meter a world class tool
22 March 2021

This is my second Model 87 Fluke meter. The first I got in or around 1988. After 14 years in an industrial facility performing electrical maintenance and the last 18 years the original meter was used as my personal meter at home. The meter is still being used but some of it's features have been compromised. These meters are lab quality, industrial hardy, and easy to use. If you want a quality multi-meter the Fluke model 87 is your best bet.

Measuring high resistances, and very low currents.
6 December 2017

The Fluke 97 is an amazing instrument, not only for doing things most folks know about, but for doing well some things few are aware of. One is the nS feature. In the ohms setting, press RANGE until you see the conductance units nS. Normally the resolution is 0.01nS, which corresponds to 10^11 ohms, but press the Hi Res button to get 0.001nS, Rmax 10^12 ohms. Awesome!Another capability is measuring low currents. On the mV range, with Hi Res, the meter resolution is 0.01mV or 10uV. The Fluke 87 has infinite input impedance on this range, so add an external current-sensing resistor, like 1.00 meg-ohm. On the 200mV range full scale ill be 0.2uA and the resolution will be 10pA.. Try 10M for 1pA sensitivity, who knew this instrument could do that!?

Outstanding - Scores high points.

Pros:- Fluke 87v rocks.- Whether you are an HVAC professional, an electrician or a non-casual electronics hobbyist, this is one of the best feature rich multimeters you can get.- Outstanding quality- Super fast response rates (compared it with 3 other non-Fluke MMs)- Highly accurate (even without a NIST certificate)- Like the bar graph which gives it the analog touch when it comes to measuring and viewing non-stable voltages.- Frequency measurement up to 200 kHz- It is indeed a True RMS across the full spectrum of frequencies that it is designed to operate. This is something I have seen other MMs claiming to be TRMS fail (yes Klein)- It comes with a Lifetime warranty.- At $400 it is hard to beat the price at Lowes.Cons:- At $400, Flukes are ... MorePros:- Fluke 87v rocks.- Whether you are an HVAC professional, an electrician or a non-casual electronics hobbyist, this is one of the best feature rich multimeters you can get.- Outstanding quality- Super fast response rates (compared it with 3 other non-Fluke MMs)- Highly accurate (even without a NIST certificate)- Like the bar graph which gives it the analog touch when it comes to measuring and viewing non-stable voltages.- Frequency measurement up to 200 kHz- It is indeed a True RMS across the full spectrum of frequencies that it is designed to operate. Rather it is Assembled in the USA with global components. So why such a high price.- Lacks an NCVT. For the size there is enough real estate to add that in. This is a basic feature that is available even in the cheap $25 multimeters these days.- Uses a 9V battery instead of 3AAA batteries that the 87V Max uses and gives only 1/2 that battery life (rated 400 hours compared to 800 hours for 87v Max)- For the price and the higher margins that Fluke maintains on this line of product, it would have been great to include a simple storage case, a magnetic hanger and better quality leads.

Simply the Best

My new 87V feels heavy - substantial. It is very solid with strong, positive dial feedback when it is turned between ranges. It also autoranges quite quickly. I will be turning 50 in a couple of months and the dual level backlight brightness and bolder digits are great for my bifocal requiring eyes. The 87V also adds a tremendous amount of features over my trusty 'ol 29 Series II (features which I will likely never use.) This meter was a purchase to upgrade my Fluke 29 Series II that I purchased while in school back in 1994. It still looks and functions as new. It is still perfectly well within its tolerance limits, even after nearly 28 years and no calibrations. That's right - it has never even needed a calibration! The Fluke name speaks for itself around the globe and for good reason.

Because we can't help but own multiples of them.Great job TEquipment for delivery and Fluke for the 87v.

The best most of us can get
25 January 2021

You can’t go wrong with a Fluke. Within the brand, you can’t go wrong with 87V, Fluke’s bestseller. It’s safe, rugged, accurate and the calibration seems to last forever. I’m using it for electronics projects.Things I like:1. Wide AC bandwith - up to 20,000 Hz (this makes it usable for audio projects). Most other multimeters (including most other Flukes) are capped at 1000 Hz, at best.2. “Smart” precision: 6000 counts for regular measurements, switchable to 20,000 counts, with a (loong…) push of a button, when higher precision is needed. When powered on, it defaults to 6000 counts, hiding the extra-digit that only creates confusion when not need it (which is most of the times for the most of us) – brilliant!3. Fast. When powered on, it defaults to 6000 counts, hiding the extra-digit that only creates confusion when not need it (which is most of the times for the most of us) – brilliant!3. Fast. When it displays a measurement, that’s the final value. You don’t have to wait while watching changing numbers on the display, wondering if it “stabilized” or not. Gorgeous!4. Full current range - it measures uA, mA and A (AC and DC). Most other Flukes (targeted to electricians) don’t cover all these ranges.5. Brilliant auto-hold mode: can’t probe and watch the display in the same time? No problem. In “auto-hold” mode, focus on placing the probes where they should be, wait until you hear a beep (about a second or less), remove the probes then check the display – your measurement is there! Most other multimeters (including some cheaper Flukes) only have a useless “hold” function, which requires you to press the “hold” button while holding the probes in place, to keep the value on the display. Why would you need that for?!6. Great ergonomics – big rotary switch, with wide spaces between positions, clearly labeled, with markings easy to read (and hard to confuse). You only realize how important this is when you try to use a “feature rich” competitor with lots of not-really-necessary stops on the rotary dial and good looking curved surfaces that make you move your head trying to avoid odd reflections that prevent you from reading the dial. The digits on the display are easy to read, have a good height/width proportion and spacing.7. Great resell value. The only reason I bought a new Fluke 87V from Tequipment is that it doesn’t sell for that much more than a 10 year old one. Based on the number of second hand units on the market, they seem to work forever.Things I don’t like: probes. I have never been a fan of TL75, the standard (i.e. cheapest) Fluke probes. They are a bit rigid and the tips are not that sharp (for electronics work). Other than that, OK – they do the job.Sure, there are other meters better for particular jobs (including other Flukes). If you need one of those, you already know it. If you are just wondering which Fluke meter you should buy, this is the one. It does it all. Also, if you wonder whether you really need a Fluke (yes, they are pricey for the features they offer) – well, you can definitely buy cheaper from other brands (like I did before, too). Just keep in mind that you might get a less accurate one (with possibly more useless digits on the display) that might get even worse in time (drift…) and one day will either simply stop working or (worse) display wrong measurements (get two of them, to check them periodically against each other). Be careful when using them with high voltages. Or just buy this Fluke, like I did.

High-frequency, high-energy noise generated by large drive systems is blocked from your measurements with specially designed shielding. - It is built to the highest safety standards. All the inputs in the 87V are updated to the third edition of the EN 61010-1 to CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V. The meter is designed to withstand spikes of more than 8000 V. You also benefit from an audible Input Alert warning if the test leads are placed in the incorrect input jacks for the measurement being made. - The 87V has a removeable holster that also holds a test probe during testing for easier viewing. Relative mode lets you remove test lead resistance, improving accuracy of low-resistance measurements. To make your life even easier, the 87V fits into an optional magnetic hanger for easy set-up and viewing while freeing your hands for other tasks. - Specifications:Voltage DC: Maximum voltage - 1000VVoltage AC:Maximum Voltage - 1000VCurrent DC: Maximum Amps - 10ACurrent AC: Maximum Amp - 10AResistance: Maximum Resistance - 50 MΩFrequency: Maximum Frequency - 200 kHzDuty cycle: Maximum Duty Cycle- 99.9%Temperature Measurement: –200°C – 1090°C80 BK Temperature Probe: –40°C – 260°C, 2.2°C or 2% whichever is greater - Conductance: Maximum Conductance - 60.00 n - SDiode Range: 3VOperating Temperature: –20°C to +55°CStorage Temperature: –40°C to +60°CHumidity (without condensation): 0% – 90% (0°C – 35°C) | 0% – 70% (35°C – 55°C)Operating Altitude: 2000MOvervoltage Category: EN 61010–1 to 1000 V CAT III, 600V CAT IVAgency approvals: CE, CSA, RCMShock: 1 Meter drop per IEC 61010–1:2001Vibration: Per MIL–PRF–28800 for a Class 2 instrument - Includes:TL75 Test Leads (TL175 EUR)AC175 Alligator Clips - Holster9V Battery (Installed)80BK Temperature Probe
