Works well, but does not have an audible warning. I am accustomed to the Greenlee detector that chirps when it detects voltage. This detector only lights up - it is hard to see when working outside. I do not recommend this tool.

I purchased the Fluke 1AC II Non-contact 1000 Amp 1000-Volt LED Voltage Tester It was on special and I paid $36 plus the tax. I took it out of the package tested it and it work great. I store it in my tool box. Close to a year my lights when out at home and I wentt to go use it. It did not work ! I purchase new AAA betteries and when I put them in a red light comes on with a loud screaming beep and it will not turn off !!! I paid cash for it . A waste of money and truly disappointed!!!

Twice I've almost been electrocuted because I couldn't see the light at the tip, in the sun. I don't understand why there is no audible setting? Very dangerous for an electrician or do-it-yourselfer!

The directions for use that come with this instrument are flawed and the most important directions are not even included. The tip of this detector should be inserted into the SHORT (rectangular) slot of the 3-hole receptacle. If it is inserted into the short slot (which is the HOT slot), then it will shine bright red if the receptacle is live, and the light will stay on until you pull the tip out.If you insert the tip into either the round/ground hole or the long slot (which is not hot), the only way this detector works is when you pull OUT the tip, and then you will see just a red flash. By the way, the round ground "slot" and the short, upper slot are tied together internally, and neither is hot.The other reason I can't give this product five stars, is that ... MoreThe directions for use that come with this instrument are flawed and the most important directions are not even included. I've owned and used this product for a few years and loved it very much. It has helped me a lot to test my house wall plugs and power lines to check whether there is power or not. It's so easy to use and always gives me a peace of mind before I touch or fix the plugs or lines. I have also used this tool to diagnose broken Christmas lights to pin-point which light is burned out, especially when the light decoration is very long. Highly recommend to anyone who needs to deal with any power issue around one's house!
Hello. I just bought the Fluke 2AC. I am a physics teacher and use it at home and lab cases ( discontinuing wires and things like that). Although it is a great tool it lights up when I put it near metal surfaces although voltage is not present - as if E/M waves are reflected or something like that. It even lights up when I put it near my mac's keyboard or the microwave chassis. Is there some kind of sensitivity calibration that is needed?
Rhis tester is simply the best for me. I work in noisy generation environment and without this is not possible to identify power presence. Its suitable for industrial use as all you need is speed and the light the buzzer won't be much use for me! as machines are too loud you ate at home then you may need a volt stick that sounds. I tried kewtech but it failed so a reliable fluke is what you need at busy times! It could be a little longer (taller) becouse the voltages are too high at times but you can use it with an extension pole so easy of use then nakes to 4 stars not 5 !
Had the previous model for 10 years. Invaluable piece of must have tools. There's nothing I don't like about it. Lightweight, convenient pocket clip, sturdy construction and above all a lifesaving and affordable device. "Always on" low battery drain and test button, I replace the batteries every two years. I've worked on circuits that I thought were "dead" on two occasions - a simple wave over the work area with this device saved me from getting a shock and possibly saved my life.
I personally prefer the no beep and the beep is useless where I work anyways. Just make sure you test your tester before testing a wire to ensure it is functional. The only false positive I've gotten was from induced voltage, and no false negatives unlike the Milwaukee one I've used. Beep is subjective and I like not having it!
I purchased the 5-pack of the Fluke 2AC VoltAlert 9 years ago. I regularly carry one in my pocket to have handy access to quickly determine if power is present. It saves a lot of troubleshooting time, and if it shows there is power, then I can use my Fluke meter to further troubleshoot as needed.I bought the 5-pack of these to have one available in my shop, in my vehicle, and carry one. If lose one, or someone walks off with one, I still have spares.
