After being an electrician for over 30 years I can tell you don't want guess about electricity. I have several Fluke meters that most people want need but for the average person this meter is easy to use and at a good price. Auto select between AC & DC. Just turn it on and put your test probes on what your checking ( 600 Volts AC & under) and it will give you the voltage along with if it's AC or DC. Turn the knob to amps and slide forked end of meter over wire and you gets amps. GREAT PRODUCT.

The small size makes it easy to carry in pant or jacket pockets. Rugged construction that withstands the elements only adds to the value.The fixed jaw can make it difficult to get into some tight areas. The low measurement resolution can also be a problem. However, this is a tester and not a true clamp (or multi) meter. The end user needs to understand the device's limitations and select the appropriate tool for the job.

I bought this for my son who is an aprentice electriction. He's been using it solidly for over a year and no problems. This has the flat contacts and other features needed for Australian circuitry - not the round contacts on the often cheaper units direct from China, though I am sure they probably come from the same factory and are good qulaity too. He usually caries this in his tool belt and it has stood up to the workload.

The shipment was quick however, after using the Voltage tester for about a month. I do not like the way the electrodes slip off the leads when pulled out of their holders. I solved the problem by wrapping with electrical tape but I think you need to fix this- very cheap and definitely not Fluke qualityMy previous T5-1000 never had this problem because the leads were solidly attached to the testing electrodes
I have used this model of meter for 18 years and bought this one for my grandson to ease his trouble shooting needs. I think the only thing that has ever caused a failure with this meter was leaving it on a roof during a heavy rain. Otherwise it is a tough meter that is auto ranging and polarity sensing on DC. The Amp fork is so much easier to use than a clamp over and with the lock button you only need to probe, press the button, then remove the meter and read. The tone is strong when checking continuity and that's about it.
I mean it's a fluke what do you expect. Works great, battery last forever (I forget to turn it off quite often), tough as nails. Buddy has one with a cracked screen and you can still read it perfect. Leads and batteries are easy to change. Don't skimp out on a lifesaving device. Do your research.For you new maintenance guys/gals you can almost always save money by buying the 600v version of the T5. If your work does not deal with voltages over 480 then there is no need for the 1000v meter.

I've had the t5 for close to 20 yrs. I do use it but not every day, perhaps once a month or so. It has not held up as its seen light duty use since purchase. Perhaps I expected too much for the $130 I paid for it. Presently it will not do continuety anymore. I cleaned the contact pads in the multi wheel and it worked for a while but back to not working. I called Fluke service and was told they do not service the t5. Go figure, purchase another one is their solution.
Rotation of dial is noticably hard to turn vs the t6-1000. I own both. Lack of display backlight renders this product useless for any electrician who takes them self seriously. small size is desirable. Being a fluke it is accurate and trustworthy.
A must have for electricians, and worth the extra over the 600. The T5-600 is for HVAC guys and maintenance types. If you ever work in an industrial or commercial setting or even upstream of the mains in residential, you need CAT IV equipment, and this thing is indestructible. This meter will take an absolute beating and keep on giving you reliable readings, keeping you safe. I wouldn't trust my life to anything less. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a delicate little electronics multimeter, but that's not what this is for. Get a Klein for that stuff. To read the fundamentals and get it right every time you want a Fluke T5. Especially when it's getting banged around in your tool bag or gang box.
