The multi-functional canopy provides ultimate convenience with an easy feed opening, as well as multi-directional dual output nozzles that can be adjusted to create customised water currents. Recently purchased an Aqueon 14 when Petco was running a 50% off deal. Thought it was too good to be true. After reading all the horrible reviews on it, I returned it with no issues. The Fluval Evo 13.5 came highly recommended for beginners in reefing. After applying all the available discounts, I picked up in store and got the kit for around $135. Amazing deal for a $200 AIO kit that comes with everything you need to get started except for a heater, sand and live rock. Very pleased with this purchase.

The kit looks pretty nice if you want to set it up as a goldfish / betta tank. It doesnt work very well as a saltwater kit. There's 2 major flaws with this setup. 1: there is no good spot to put a heater in the back compartments if you use a protein skimmer. The compartment with the pump has fluctuating water levels so it's not stable enough for a heater. The second issue is the LED lamp runs very hot, so it overheats the entire aquarium. On an average day my temperatures fluctuate back and forth by about 3 degrees because of the light, which stresses the fish out.

My family had freshwater fish tanks on and off when I was a child, and in the past couple years I have gotten into freshwater planted tanks. Saltwater aquariums have been intimidating to me, but after looking into things for a while the Fluval EVO seemed like an amazing choice and value. After receiving the tank and setting it up, I must say my research was spot on. Everything that you need other than a heater is in the box. Not sure why the heater was not in there, but I’d say with the quality of the tank, lid, light, and media provided it’s still a great value. Im excited to get started with fish and add some corals later, and if I really catch the bug, there are tons of optional upgrades for this tank that you don’t need to keep saltwater fish and beginner ... MoreMy family had freshwater fish tanks on and off when I was a child, and in the past couple years I have gotten into freshwater planted tanks. I'm a beginner to marine aquariums and whilst this is a great starter tank even I can see it has flaws the main one chiefly is poor water flow, the pump is just no where near powerful enough and barely moves the water. I can't help thinking that Fluval has done this so you buy a marine wave maker from them. The tank has a filter area at one end nad a seperate lid which is damned awf and it won't stay down and it falls off a lot. I can see what they were trying to do but they did it poorly in my opinion. Then the LED light is either on straight into really bright and then is switches to blue and then off. My freshwater Fluval tank has a gradual increase in brightness, this one is like a headlight and it startles the fish. To summarise, a great starter tank, a little ... MoreI'm a beginner to marine aquariums and whilst this is a great starter tank even I can see it has flaws the main one chiefly is poor water flow, the pump is just no where near powerful enough and barely moves the water. My freshwater Fluval tank has a gradual increase in brightness, this one is like a headlight and it startles the fish. To summarise, a great starter tank, a little expensive and has a few stupid problems built in by Fluval which are probably to keep the cost down but cause issues for the beginner.
This is a great nano reef tank. Like all tanks, things can be upgraded and at this price you really can't beat it. The light is just fine for saltwater and is also fine for a lot of beginner corals. Obviously, if you want expensive corals, you should upgrade to a more expensive lighting system. I would highly recommend a powerhead for extra flow since the standard one isn't very strong. My pair of clownfish have already doubled in size, since setting it up in December. The only complaint I have is the direction the cords coming out of the side. All the cords hanging out are kind of ugly and I wish they could go out the back side of the tank, but overall, the system is a great starter kit.
I got this for Xmas bc my wife knew I was into saltwater tanks in the past. I was excited to put it together and get my tank cycling. I had everything up and the sump pump didn’t work. Understandable things happen. I called petco and they keep giving me the run around. “We will contact you in 24-48 hours” 10 days later, no pump. The chamber is small or I would have just bought a different pump myself. In the meantime I’ve kept the light off most the time bc I didn’t want algae to grow during the cycling phase. I had people over so I turned the light on for that evening, only to find I have a strobe light haha. The light literally flickers on and off. I’m so annoyed with petco I’m not even going to deal with them to replace the light bc by time they send that I’ll be ... MoreI got this for Xmas bc my wife knew I was into saltwater tanks in the past. I just purchased a new light and I’m sure it will be here before the pump. Mechanical things malfunction, I understand that, but petco customer service is way too slow.
I wanted to love this tank or at least like it. The black "hex" pattern at the top and in the filtration area is cool. That is where "cool" ends. The light is trash. You get to choose from blinding white or barney purple. The purple - which they call blue is too dim to grow coral and you can really not enjoy the fish. Let's talk filtration... no filter sock. They would rather promote the fits chamber for a skimmer, which is really wasted in a tank this small with regular water changes. They opted for a sponge nitrate factory instead of a media basket. That is just nasty. Those itty bitty bags with "biomedia" and carbon are laughable. You'd get your biological filtration from your live rock anyway. If I calculate everything that I will need to upgrade to want to keep ... MoreI wanted to love this tank or at least like it. The black "hex" pattern at the top and in the filtration area is cool. If I calculate everything that I will need to upgrade to want to keep this tank, it becomes cheaper to just return it and get a tank of higher quality. I still love my Fluval Chi but this Evo is a big nope from me.
I replaced my 12-gal Eclipse tank with this 13.5-gal Evo. The Eclipse had its filter above. The Evo has its filter walled off on the side. I suspect the swimming area is 12-gal. I got an inTank rack for the first chamber. That chamber is made for a protein skimmer which may be needed with a large biomass. The rack has three shelves: rough filter, charcoal bag, and Chemi-pure bag. I kept the second chamber as instructed except I discarded its charcoal bag after 5 months. Along with the pump, the third chamber accommodates the 25 watt heater. I got a NICREW dimmer that I set at 25% brightness and 12 on dawn/12 off dusk. At six months, my 10-yr old clownfish, two snails, and two hermit crabs are doing well.
This is a good looking setup, nice and clean. Some reviews have complained about the power of the pump, but I haven’t found that to be an issue. I am not happy that the LED light. It has one button that controls switching from white and blue or just blue lighting. There isn’t enough blue when the white lights are on, leaving zoas, mushrooms, etc., a drab color. Turn just the blue on and they look great, but that’s not enough to sustain them. If you put the hood on a timer, it defaults back to white light when it comes back on. It’s not enough to dock too many stars, but I don’t really see a way to use a different light without removing the hood completely or changing the look.
Once you get all 3 Internal filters running, skimmer, powerhead, filter pump,AND YOU LIVE IN A WARM CLIMATE, beware, this tank runs hot ! Unless you have an AC vent that blows in the tanks direction. Why no one ever mentioned this? Just how hot does it get in England anyways? Not very I suspect, and the engineers were all wearing sweaters when they designed it. Word to any sub tropical aquarists.
