Fluval FX6 Canister Filter
Fluval FX6 is a high performance canister filter with many outstanding features designed to make aquarium fishkeeping easier and more convenient than ever. This super capacity yet compact canister filter processes and circulates 2130 litres of water every hour and has an astounding media capacity that produces cleaner and healthier results. Filtering material can easily be placed in a removable stack of media baskets which is at the heart of Fluval's multi-stage filtration. The baskets are precision-engineered to eliminate water by-pass, making filtration more efficient. The baskets can hold a total of 5.9 litres of media and can be stacked in the precise combination of layers that will work best for your aquarium. Each one is lined with a foam insert for effective mechanical pre-filtering. Instant-release T-handles let you lift and separate the baskets quickly and easily, making routine maintenance simpler. The Fluval FX6 also features Smart Pump Technology, which provides optimal filter performance. This advanced technological feature employs an electronic circuit board that continually monitors the pump. Impeller speed and force are constantly measured to ensure powerful output and energy efficiency. It also manages the filter's self-starting feature and evacuates air that may enter or build up within the filtration system. On a 12-hour cycle, the pump will pause and allow trapped air to escape, ensuring the best filtration efficiency at all times. At only 54 cm in height, the Fluval FX6 fits under most aquariums.

I have had it for over a year and only change it out every 4 months. I have kept fish for 40 years and had many filters this is by far the best. The power and flow is assume way better than any canaster filter I have owned and I have owned many good ones. I do not understand how any review good be negative. Easy to set up , high flow and media capacity way more filtering capacity then any other canister. I have never had a leak as it sealed really good.I never write reviews but I felt they are so good and deserve it.

After having purchased my latest FX6, I now have five of them and am pleased with how they operate and how easy they are to clean. They are quiet and efficient. Moving them out from under the aquarium for cleaning is the only tough part as the filter is large and when filled with water, it is fairly heavy. While I don't use it, they do have a valve and hookup for draining the water if you desire. This would make the filter easier to move.Based on the gunk in the filter when cleaning, it is obvious that they filter out alot of food and waste material from the water. Not mentioning any competitors by name but I do have two by another company that are not nearly as nice, even though they are comparable in price. This brand starts up by itself after shutoff when ... MoreAfter having purchased my latest FX6, I now have five of them and am pleased with how they operate and how easy they are to clean. This brand starts up by itself after shutoff when cleaning it and the aquarium. The competitor needs to be manually started every time even though their manual says it will start up by itself. The FX6 is frustration and hassle free. After five of them, I can safely say that it is my first choice for great filtration for large tanks.

Beast of a filter. Much bigger than you imagine. Mine fit inside cupboard under the tank (JUST) but was difficult to remove hoses and take back out. Placed beside the 5' tank. Also have a FX4 installed, easier to remove because of height difference but NOT the same power or motor fittings. + extra filter stage in FX6. Plenty of room to add extra filter media. Exit pipe at bottom of filter. Bought a standard hose pipe to remove water without using buckets. Combined, they keep the water perfect. Only issue I have, it is heavy to lift to clean each month.

I needed more filtration for my 125 gallon fresh water tank which is overstocked. I read the reviews on the Fluval FX6 and was very impressed. For about 2 weeks I continued to read reviews, and compare canister filters. I finally decided I would try the the Fluval and after another week of research I found the best deal on it at Value Pet Supplies. In fact they were $36.00 better than any price I could find. The price was right, the shipping was fast, and the set-up of the FX6 was easy. In fact the hardest part of set-up was rinsing the filter media. The system cleared my somewhat cloudy 125 in 3 days. I will caution that at start-up of the filter, after it runs for a minute, it purges the air from it. I will caution that at start-up of the filter, after it runs for a minute, it purges the air from it. Be careful because the air comes out like a volcano and it boiled over the back of my tank. I think you can minimize this by adding more water to the filter during the initial priming set-up. The instructions call for 2 gallons to be added to the filter. 2 gallons will only partially fill the filter which leaves room for a lot of air. You may also try lowering your water level in your tank some before start-up. All in all the Fluval FX 6 is a great, quiet filter. I would buy it again!
I have 3 large aquariums and now 3 of these filters. The best filter in switzerland. I tried all the others. Easy to use and refill water in the aquarium. They run a little over a month before I clean them. I have bio media in all the middle parts of the tray and sponges on the outside part. Over 8 years with my first one. Still no problems.
I set it up as soon as it arrived. I needed a better filter than my 3yr old Cascade 1200 canister for my 60g freshwater tank. It was easy to assemble, and I didn't really need the instructions. However, the manufacturer decided it was a wise idea to NOT put the o-ring/seal on the canister's lid, which I didn't realize until turning it on and having water spew all over my living room. If this should have been a step to do, they should have stated so in the instructions. You have to cut the plastic hose yourself, which isn't a huge deal, but it sucks that it's plastic, as it's fragile. Mine came with a large hole in it.. And yet another setback causing water to spew all over myself and my living room. Mine came with a large hole in it.. And yet another setback causing water to spew all over myself and my living room. After holding a hole for 20min while my husband went to Lowes to get something to seal it with, it was finally up and running without leaks..Runs great, but I wish the intake cover had smaller holes so it wouldn't suck up my tiny fish, snails, and shrimp. I just used a mesh bag to cover it.Overall, excellent filter if it doesn't have holes or parts not pre-installed as it should.
Wish I could give it zero stars. Absolute waste of money. Extremely difficult to put together. Once together the entire apparatus sprung a leak and almost ruined my wooden tank stand. Although many will point you in the direction of this filter, I wish I did not purchase this item. The difficulty of set up and price combine for one of the worst purchases I have ever made. Do not buy this item unless you want a wet floor, poorly designed filter, and 400 bucks down the toilet.
Filter is powerful and has kept my turtle tank really clean and clear. But, it is quite loud. Bearable but I had hoped it’s quieter as reviews has claimed. However, I am going to try different position and anti vibration mat to see if it can get any quieter. I am hoping so! Also, When I received my order, hosing was damaged but was replaced and sent out swiftly for next day delivery.
The FX6 is huge. It holds three baskets for sponges and media, and has a fantastic flow. The ability to remove water and add water to the tank from the filter is a great addition to this filter. My only critique would be the amount of media the filter can hold compared to the overall size of the filter.I have had some minor issues with air bubbling out of my outlet. I believe this is due to air entering the filter from either a hose connection, or the lid. I am in the process of tightening all jubilee clips and the lid fasteners. If this doesn't remedy the problem, I will try lubricating the lid o-ring.I am using the FX6 on a Fluval Siena 332 with Mbuna and it is perfect. Not overpowered at all and the water is Crystal clear. Highly recommended!
do not waste your money on this filter. yes, it works pretty good, however, you will need to replace the impeller for $70.00 every year. You would be better off buying a pool filter and using that for half the price. I believe the fx6 was designed to require maintenance so the can keep you purchasing parts. After spending $400.00, there is now way i will spend $80.00 a year minimum to operate this. Planned obsolesce at its best. Maybe, if the impeller was $25.00 it would not be so bad, but its $70.00 plus shipping. I can only imagine what it will cost when the media falls apart. no more fluval for me. Ebay, here i come!
