Very heavy! Very strong! Solid design! Extremely quiet with its two large fans! I added a liquid CPU cooler and my GPU has two fans as well but it’s still whisper quiet! I purchased two of these cases in building myself and my brother systems. Main reason for this model selection was the two optical drive bays… I have and would definitely recommend this case to any system builder! I really can’t say enough about it!

The finish is excellent. Seems to be very durable, and the sound deadening is a very welcome addition. No sharp edges waiting to slice your fingers. Perfect fitment, and everything comes apart easily, and the flexibility they designed in is really incredible. Wish I'd gotten this years ago!Fully packed with eight 3.5 drives and 2 2.5 SSDs, and is very quiet. Ordered the extra fan for the front lower spot, as well as for the left side (have LSI Logic disk controller card that tends to run hot).The only issue I had is that it seems like they didn't account for the nice coat of paint on the SSD trays: none of the four brands I have would lie flush in the trays, so they couldn't be screwed to the trays. I had to mount the SSDs to one side of the 5.25 bays.

It appears I'm a huge fan of Fractal cases. I have the Torrent for my main "rig", the Focus G for a retro build, and now I've chosen the Define R5 for my upcoming home data server. Why the Define R5? Because of the sound dampening features and (of course) because of the abundance of drive trays. I don't need a high airflow case for my data server, so the rather closed nature of this case shouldn't be a major issue. I'm impressed by the quality of the materials, but I haven't actually built the server yet. The sound dampening panels are heavy and seem like they'll be effective. I'm going to move the rear fan to the front and have no rear fan.

The R5 case is well built and comes with all the parts needed to mount lots of drives. The provisions for cable management are excellent. Parts are included for mounting an additional fan. One issue I have is that when the Top HDD Cage is mounted in the Optional Top Cage Position 2 the bottom drive tray cannot slide out because of interference with the bottom side side of the case.
Built a computer using this case and a Supermicro motherboard for one of our labs here at work. While the case is sturdy and has lots of good drive mounting options it has some disappointing shortcomings that bring into question whether I'll be ordering more of them. First, there's only a bare minimum of places to screw in the motherboard mounting studs...the case only supports one arrangement of mounting holes. If your motherboard happens to have its mounting holes located outside of this one "norm" you're out of luck. The Supermicro MB I have has 3 holes in the "wrong" place. Any other case will have mounting holes in these locations, but not this particular case. There's zero reason why they can't include more mounting holes to support more motherboards. Third is an issue I've NEVER seen on any other of the hundreds of cases I've bought, irregardless of price. The prep work on the steel is bad in places and that's caused bubbles in the black paint on the top of the case. Whether or not the paint will eventually peel off in these areas only time will tell. Overall, a nice case that, with some more attention to workmanship and a few small tweaks, could be a great case

These two things are hard to get together. The main idea is that I was able to install a lot of fans and run all those fans at very low speed (which is quiet) and still get good airflow. Playing a modern game, my CPU temps never exceeded 65C.The two provided case fans are not PWM, so I removed them. They were not too loud.I was able to fit a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU cooler into the case (it's a very big cooler but it fits fine). I would not recommend this cooler though - pick something else. But this case is big enough to fit even this monster.
Lots of room to work in good cable management options. Just watch the size of your AIO reservoir if mounting to the top of the case. While the instructions said mine would fit, the clearance for getting it into the space wall was smaller because of the flanges on the sides. Once I was able to wiggle it past it was okay. Except the mounting screws didn't align well.
My front fan only had 3 out of 4 screws installed. Since I also installed a 2nd front fan, the extra set of screws included still left me one short. Screws for 140mm fans need to use the tapped holes in the case. The included screws are 6-32 flat head machine screws about 1in long, not easy to find especially in black. I made do with a plain steel screw. This QC is disappointing in such an expensive case. I removed all the 3.5" internal bays, and used the backside mounting for 2 SSD's. It would be nice to have the option for smaller 2.5" rack instead that left the fans less blocked. I do like having two 5.25" external bays, I use one for a hot-swap HDD dock for backups, and the 2nd for a BD-XL drive, otherwise I could have gone for the "C". The bigger issue is that the front door restricts airflow. I have 2x GP14's on the intake at 100%, 1 GP14 on the exhaust, plus the pwr supply with fan up, and a GTX1070ti exhaust fan. With the door open, the vents over the PCI cage exhaust air strongly. With the door closed, that airflow reverses and they pull air in strongly. Not good, they are unfiltered, and are likely to re-ingest hot exhaust air.
I'm mystified how Newegg could feature a negative review that calls this case a "banshee." I write it up to "operator error." I had this case in my family room for three years for family use. It was on most of the time. It was loaded with four hard drives and one SSD. If you knew my wife, you would understand how incredibly remarkable that is. She uses computers in her work all day, and she's the goto person for many of her colleagues for computer problems. That said, when it comes to home decorating, she believes that computers should be neither seen (absolutely no blinking lights!!) nor heard. And while it is hard to make a computer disappear, this case really comes close. That is no accident. Most internal surfaces are padded with sound deadening foam. All HDD's are mounted on sound deadening, vibration absorbing bushings. Fractal is justifiably famous for the quality and low noise level of its fans. And while we did have the occasional banshee in our family room, it never came from this case: The case just sat there hidden in plain view. The plain brushed surface of the front door and the remarkably solid build insured that all was quiet and unobtrusive. As for ease of use and air flow, there is nothing on the market that is better. I build gaming systems as a hobby. I've used cases from Thermaltake, Corsair, Rosewill, and others. So I can say with confidence that if you are looking for a solidly built, quiet, easy to configure case, you cannot beat this Fractal Design case.

It's been very quiet, easy to cool, meets my design aesthetic, tool-less side panel, easy thumb screws everywhere, modular to remove what you don't need for better air flow (at the cost of a little overall rigidity if that's a concern because you transport your case around a lot), plenty of cable routing points, and everything else already mentioned. Actually has legs to keep it up off the floor for airflow (at least if not on carpet - not large enough for that), if you bottom mount the PSU, in addition to the screen filters on both the bottom and front. Only two criticisms. Would definitely recommend to anyone as it's highly customizable out of the box.
