Fractal Design Focus G Mid Tower Case - Black

Good case. It was hard to find a case that has a 5.25" bay and would provide the clearance for the beast that is the Dark Rock Pro 4 CPU cooler. The cooler is listed as 162.8 mm in height. Most cases max out at 160 mm, but the Fractal Focus G supports up to 165 mm. The Dark Rock Pro 4 fits perfect. The two included fans are super silent. The reset button is a nice addition. It is a very light case as well. The top and bottom are grated, which allows for lots of air flow. They also have dust protectors on these grates. I do have a couple complaints: the I/O cables could use a bit extra length. I am using the MSI PRO B650-P WiFi motherboard and the audio I/O cable is taught, no give, because the audio pins are on the bottom left of the motherboard. The top of the case ... MoreGood case. The top of the case is not removable (I'm not sure if this is a common design choice nowadays - I am a child of old school computer cases, where every panel is removable) - you gotta fish cables with very little space at the top, which is not helped by the fact that you can't remove the top panel.

90% of the way there

I needed a case with 2x 5.25 drives, and I have a water cooler for CPU with 2 fans. The water cooler had to go on the front panel because of interference with the top 5.25 drive if mounted on top. I had to mount the cooler fans on the outside (where you see white fans behind front mesh), and I put one of my RGB fans on the inside in the top position. I couldn't mount 2 fans inside because interference with 3.5 bay. And the glass is plastic of some type. I did have to file down the openings of the 5.25 bays so I could take the front cover off without struggle. After all that, I like it. It is slightly shorter than a tall case (good), mainly making it a little tricky for the 2 fan cooler. But again, there were not a lot of choices with 5.25 + cooler.

A great first case

A very good case for the price.

I have built many systems for both myself and others. This is undoubtedly the best case I've used for an economy build. The size, build quality, and features (fan options, room to work, cable management, etc.) are excellent for a case in this price range. It will not compete with the $100 and up cases, but for this build I didn't need an expensive case. I've given the case a 3 star rating for only one reason -- the "Power" LED light doesn't work. That has no impact on the operation of the system, but it is a defect. I can live without an LED light telling me my system is either on or in sleep mode. Besides, I can and will add an LED (easily and cheaply done on most any motherboard) that will be visible thru the side panel or front cover to be able to see the same ... MoreI have built many systems for both myself and others. Good; Could Be Better

I got this case as a replacement for the original when I upgraded my PC.*** In short: It's a good budget, value PC case. ***The positives:It runs very quietly.Very good dust filter.The not so positives:The HD activity light is a VERY bright white LED at the top. It's flashing away in my room in the dark like a strobe light at night - need to cover it up.Only 1 USB 2 port and 1 USB 3 port in the front. Wish it had another USB 3 port and a USB C port also - have to spend more money and use one of the drive bays.I wish at least one of the bays at the front came as a hot swap bay.

Modern Take on an Old School Type Case

This was my second purchase of a Fractal D. Despite having two bays, (ostensibly), for DVD drives, the case offers ample opportunities for cooling solutions a modern gamer might want or need. The case is nicely finished, no sharp edges, spacious, has provisions for wire routing, and has a nicely blacked out interior.I realize some may not want an optical drive. But those 5 1/4bay are every bit as useful by putting them into service for a card reader, USB ports, or extra storage HDDs. Using 5 1/4 to 3 1/2 adapter plates allows a total of four HDDs to be mounted. The case itself only provides for two HDD mounts. Since there are two 140 mm fan ports directly behind the mesh fronted top bays, HDD cooling should be more than adequate.I enjoyed building with this ... MoreThis was my second purchase of a Fractal D. Nice Case.

Nice Case with a little problem. The screws to attach the motherboard to the standoffs were the wrong size. The parts package came with a boat load of thumb screws that I have no idea what I would use them for. The case itself is really light, but not fragile, big plus. The white led activity light is a tad overwhelming, but livable. I really like the case, but not supplying the correct screws is just disappointing. I have built many systems so finding the correct screws was not a problem.

Some good, some bad

Case is lightweight, lots of fan mounts, reasonably sturdy and inexpensive. I had 2 problems:When booting up for the first time, I got an error message that a USB device was drawing too much current and the system shut down. Turned out that both the included front USB connections were causing this. Dead short maybe?Second, the rack that houses 5.25 drives is oriented across the width of the case. Makes removing a drive easy by opening the transparent side panel, but there is barely enough room for the other side panel to clear the drive power and data connectors.

Time for this case to be retired....

Pros: external 5.25 baysCons: Audio front panel cable too short to reach std Motherboard position for Audio. (Shown in Photo accross Mother Board!) Support for 240 rad limited to front as top interferes with bays. Fans do not use standard Fan Screws. Filters are unstable mesh.So the case has many limitations and the only real positive is the external bays. (The MAJOR problem with all modern cases!) Manufactures really need to start paying attention to what the Customers want instead of what they want to produce.

Very much old school

This case has been sold since 2017. Seven years in the PC industry is a very long time. That's why it has the design features - it's an antique. But antiques can be OK if that's what you're looking for. Sometimes they're better than the new stuff. If you use an optical drive all the time (very rare), would be a good choice. You can do workarounds for many of the design issues - for example you can get a USB-C header to front panel accessory and put it in the front bay. They used to sell adapters to put two 2.5 inch drives in a 5.25 inch drive bay. Just keep in mind, by the time you buy the various accessories to bring this case to modern standards, you could pay the same for a newer model that doesn't require retro engineering.
