En Passant is a lilac fragrance. I've always loved lilacs, growing up with an absolutely massive bush in our yard with white flowers, and also influenced by my Mother who grew up in Lombard, IL, which is known for their lilacs. The only other lilac fragrance I've run into previously is the one from Demeter, so En Passant was fun to try! It also features notes of cucumber, white musk and cedar, so it's slightly more complex than simply lilac, but it is a truly perfect floral for spring time! I will admit though that I have a little bit of a hard time picking up the other notes besides lilac. I will also admit that lilacs don't blend perfectly with my body chemistry. I love smelling the flower itself, and I really enjoy smelling this fragrance on a paper blotter, but ... MoreEn Passant is a lilac fragrance. Lilacs do have indoles, and though it's not quite as bad as with jasmine, this fragrance can smell a bit sour and decayed on my skin. It's really sad because I do love this fresh, springtime floral! I'm jealous of those of you who can pull these fragrances off!

En Passant is a beautiful, aquatic lilac fragrance. The aquatic cucumber notes are prominent upon first spray, then giving way to floral lilac notes. Eventually all that’s left are its wheat and cedar notes, which kind of remind me of a wood and hardware store (but in a pleasant, nostalgic way). The longevity of this fragrance is moderate, lasting 4-6 hours.

I like perfumes that have a pleasant smell so I really like this one. This one doesn't have a floral scent, I'm not sure what it is, but it's really nice and elegant. The more I smell it, the more refreshing it feels. If your perfume taste is clear, light, I think you will like it.

En passant its beautiful scent. Light summer breeze. I love it. Very simple composition build around lilac.
I first tried this when i ordered a sampler set direct from the Frederic Malle site. It is a beautiful fresh realistic spring day. The lilac is so realistic it feels like you are standing in a field of lilac bushes. Unfortunately the bottle i received smells nothing like the sample. It is nothing but pure rubbing alcohol. There is no scent at all, jut alcohol smell that evaporates in 1 min and gone. I am returning this and dissapointed.
An absolutely beautiful perfume. This has been one of my favorites for years. olivia’s scents are just epic.
Is it possible to love a perfume you can't indulge in? Whether it be due to cost, availability or your body chemistry, sometimes it is. For me, this rain-soaked lilac perfume is one I wish I could wear, but can't. The almost jasmine-like lilac note of En Passant gives me a headache. And yet, each time I sample it I can't help but smell my wrist every 5 minutes. What is it that makes it so good? It smells of real lilac, on the bush, just after rain but before the inevitable winds that blow the flowers away. You can smell other flowers from the garden around the lilac bush, but only enough to remind you of how fresh the garden is. It's worth trying, but do sample first if jasmine fragrances give you headaches. It's worth trying, but do sample first if jasmine fragrances give you headaches. The perfume moves through several stages, smelling at its warmest and loveliest after the first 45 mins, but the most like a lilac after 5 mins. Eventually after 4 hours it smells like a lilac-y flower garden and not quite as intoxicating (or interesting) as the first few hours. Do I love it? Yes. Oh how I wish I could wear it. I'll wait a few years and try it again....body chemistry can change!
I bought this perfume because my husband loves the smell of lilac bushes - and this was the perfume recommended. I have two other fragrances from Frederic Malle - and I think this is a fantastic perfume house. However, En Passant did not dry well on me. It was much to "green" smelling. I was hoping for something light, but with a definite floral edge. This was just not the fragrance I was hoping for.
On my skin, the simple notes converted to a combination of Bvlgari Omnia plus Le Labo Santal 33 and Byredo La Tulip. It is a clean, powdery and woody floral scent. It is quite unique and sophisticated, but suitable for daily wear.
I've always wanted a lilac perfume and when I bought the travel size of this I thought "YES! This is what I've been wanting." Sadly after you spray this its gone within the hour, so longevity is very poor for this price point. Silage is very minimal, which is good for certain occasions. I have other FM perfumes and they have insane longevity and silage, but are overpowering especially when eating. This is also a very linear scent, doesn't evolve since it's basically gone so soon. Overall a nice fresh spring lilac scent that is very expensive and doesn't deliver.
