I now use the x100v and it’s my favorite camera I’ve ever used. I’m in love with the film simulations that are available to be customized and preset in the camera. It feels like a film camera and that’s what I love about it. The fixed 35 lens can be seen as a limited but I see it as a blessing and just move around to get my shot. Overall this camera is perfect for beginners and pros alike, especially if it’s used as a daily shooter.

This camera has a lot of hype behind it. Yes, I admit it is super cute and looks great when you are out shooting. It is so vintage looking. But in all honesty, it wasn’t the best camera for me. It wasn’t compct enough to use when traveling or just for every day. Its very bulky still! Quality of the photos is good but if you want to use their video functions, forget it! The sound quality is horrible! I kept hearing a clicking noise from the camera trying to focus. The video quality sucks. And there is no wifi feature to help transfer photos. This is a very expensive camera. There are way better cameras out there for the same price or even cheaper that has better functionality and is smaller.

I found this camera while sleek and great for storage. It did not preform very well. It’s rather loud and the video leaves more to be desired. I traded a Sony alpha for this due to size and discomfort on the Sony. I learned in the end I should have dealt with the discomfort of a heavy camera for lack of quality photos here. On each I used the stock lenses in this review.

Really nice kit. The black special edition really has a premium feel to it with lovely packaging ang included extras such as hood, camera case and lens filter. I think the black version looks better too. The silver x100 is let down by the painted finish, it should have been chromed like a proper leica. The x100 is a great camera. Image quality is good (not great though). Probably the thing to watch is the auto focus which can get confused occasionally. IMHO only the x100v betters it due to improved optics, but at 4x the price the original x100 is the better camera.

Great camera for 3D pictures! The manual can be located online and it's daunting. I used a pdf editor to cut out the easy stuff and fluff to end up with a shorter cliff notes version. The camera has a lot of options, what I found the easiest was just to experiment with different settings until you better understand all of the features of this camera and what it can do with all of its many buttons. I haven't had much luck with zoomed indoor pics coming out clear but I have yet to try it outside. To conserve battery life, I set the screen brightness down to -5 and the show image timer to 3 seconds after a picture is taken. You can change the depth of pictures stored on your SD card the same way you can alter 3D with Nvidia's 3D Vision if you still have that gaming ... MoreGreat camera for 3D pictures! You can change the depth of pictures stored on your SD card the same way you can alter 3D with Nvidia's 3D Vision if you still have that gaming hardware. One thing I did not discover until late is that this camera is not the best for close-up 3D shots for miniatures or dioramas. There is a macro setting like many digital cameras have, however the suggested distance is still 5-6 feet so if you want to photo things even closer in 3D, you're going to have to find an obscure lens adapter and it seems more rare than unobtanium - The Sony MHS-FS3 combined with an external light source might be best for close-ups. I picked up some FP-50 1400mAh batteries here for $6 each and they work great beyond the original Fujifilm 1000mAh stock batteries which were manufactured some time ago. The MyFinePix software studio which originally came on cd-rom is easily found online and it's free software. If you have trouble converting .mpo files there's also an option for .mpo and .jpeg. Get yourself a 32Gb SD card and at 800 ISO you'll have room for 8,000 pictures.

Fujifilm x100

First day was frustrating, intimidating, and not what I'm use to from a mirrorless camera. But I had to change my mindset and approach to the x100. It forces you to slow down and think for a second how to compose and plan a shot. Overall for travel this is a really great camera. Pictures are sharp and colors are great so hopefully the review helps someone.

Even though this camera was from 2010, the image quality is still up to standards for daily use. I enjoy using this camera over the iPhone camera as it gives me more control, tangible feeling and such awesome photo quality. 12MP is more than enough for everyone out there.

Now's the time to go back...
31 August 2016

I've been taking photos for 55 years, latterly with a Sony DSLR and lots of kit. Partly on the recommendation of Ken Rockwell's website, I decided to buy a SH Fuji x100. It feels solidly heavy and dependable in the hand. It feels like a 35mm camera should- indeed, I keep waiting for my 36th exposure so I can flip open the rear door and take out the cassette (have I wound the film back first?). The controls take a lot of getting used to, particularly the choice between rear screen, electronic viewfinder and optical viewfinder. Most annoying of all is the way the numerous controls and knobs and sliders will move by themselves in my pocket- particularly the manual focus on the side, though everyone seems to have a different most disobedient control. Ken Rockwell says to just leave everything on Automatic because the camera is very intelligent. Mine seems to be very clever much of the time but at other times loses concentration. I wouldn't like to be overtaking it in the fast lane when it drifts off course. And, anyway, why would you want to put everything on Auto when there all those dials to fiddle with.... So, after 3wks of almost constant use and amazing revelations in terms of picture quality and just plain joy to use, I've not had my DSLR out once. I'll still be using the DSLR for a lot of things- a nice big Zooooom lens is nice; and double the sensor resolution allows some tight cropping. But, I'm rediscovering what fun photography used to be. Not just for me. Bizarrely, when taking candid photos of people, I get better engagement from subjects from having to go up close to see the nostril hair than I used to get from discreet pictures from a polite distance. Equally bizarrely, my shots are really clear given the sensor size. Close up shots in poor light are just plain amazing. My advice? If you can afford it, get one. The prices are falling for the x100, the first model that came out. And, if you don't like it, sell it again. Go out and have some fun. Get the feel again of sliding down a snowy slope on a poly bag. You got into photography because you wanted some fun. Right?

Simply the best camera I've ever had......and I've had quite a few!

This camera kit was originally well out of my league, costing over 1,000. However, thanks to the passing of time and spec/model upgrades I managed to get this truly mint kit for well under 400. At that price it is a true bargain buy. I read much about the X100 by enthusiast/guru Ken Rockwell before I bought it. He compared it very favourably against his much more expensive Leica M9. I would urge any potential buyer to read his detailed review. He was not very happy it seems, with the menu system. Frankly I find that system quite easy to use. I fact I find the camera overall is much easier and intuitive to use than the terrific Nikon D3200 or the Panasonic Lumix G3 which I have also owned. If like me you couldn't give a damn about auto face detection, making movies, selfie modes and mobile, mapping or WiFi connectivity then this camera might be right up your street. No, it doesn't have a zoom. But if you use your feet instead you will find that using a fixed lens really is liberating. Many other photographers have said this and believe me, it's true. The fact that it is fixed means that it has no built-in compromises. It is a superb sharp lens matchedwith superb technology that gives me the best and truest colours I've ever had. That is why I'd rate this as the best camera I've ever owned....and I've been taking photos for about 60 years!

Pros: It is small, looks great, light but not that light even it is better this way so you can hold your camera more stable. There are smaller cameras with smaller senzor size that can even zoom, but they are good only on a daylight. This camera makes wonders in the night! Ordinary dark street picture can become a fairy tale story with so many light and colors. You can set auto mode with 3 steps, even some people say you can't. Manual operations are very easy. If you want to learn how to manually work and learn to take great pictures with any camera, this camera is a step to it. Great options with many versions of the same picture, taken with the one click, so you can later choose the best one for you (ligher, darker, more or less color and so on). You almost don't need photoshop...almost of course. Cons: Not really for macro because autofocus gets confused, and manual infinity focus is a big struggle. Maybe with more patience it is possible but this is not for me. Even there is auto mode, it is not that good. You need to train yourself to predict how much ISO, aperture, shutter speed...you need before taking a picture. This is the purpose of this camera, so, not for lazy photographers. But you have many info options on your display/viewfinder that will help you managethis.
