First of all, I bought XT-5 along with Sigma 18-50 recently after being a long time Canon full frame shooter. I really like to see how the Fuji lens perform. I picked this one after seeing YT and other sources. Now after two weeks, I have to say I love the build quality and outcomes, the F1.4 gives the best sharp/blur contract I ever had, closeness to the objects is big for me, the ring to switch the auto/manual and much more. The images is perfect both in sharpness and colors. Now I am happy that I have a much lighter gear to carry with to ever vacation.

This lens has rave reviews all across the internet and there is good reason. The image quality is probably the best amongst the Fujifilm X-series lenses, even though the lens is older than most. With the new 18mm f/1.4 out now, it was a tough choice but I ended up picking the 16mm as its a tad bit wider than the focal length available on most mobile phones and I do not regret my choice. The AF speed is definitely slower than the newer 18mm lens (but probably on par with the 56mm f/1.2) and it shows clearly when trying to photograph pets or children.

This is unfortunate but seems to be common to Fuji lenses, and is not likely to impact performance in any way. Also, the aperture ring on my copy is a bit loose, another common complaint regarding Fuji lenses. I had hoped this newer design would have remedied that. Finally the lens is somewhat large physically, which may or may not be a con for other users. Ultimately I give the lens 4.5 stars for these build quality issues. Otherwise, the build quality is great, with the metal construction feeling very solid. The optical quality is all around excellent, and it can be pushed into a surprising variety of applications and handles them well. This has become a favorite Fuji prime for me, and if you like the 24mm FOV I do not think you can go wrong.

My first impression was that this lens is smaller and lighter than I expected, which is great. It certainly is fast. It's a challenge shooting with it during the day wide open without an ND filter. I live out in a rural area and this lens is begging for some street photography, but I the wide-angle distortion worked great on a couple of horses. Oh, and it's brilliant for starry night pics, being 2 stops faster than your average f/2.8. Overall it's incredibly sharp, although the distortion is really noticeable in the corners. I can't wait to take it out on the street on my next trip to the big city. I bought the XF 16mm f/1.4 primarily for low-light events and nature photography in harsh conditions, and the lens excels for both of these uses. As online reviews indicate it is acceptably sharp and contrasty across most of the frame right from f1.4, and by f4-f5.6 the corners catch up and it is very sharp to extremely sharp across the entire frame. The lens can also focus very closely for a wide angle, allowing for unique 1:4 close-up images and environmental portraits with nicely blurred backgrounds. The build quality is exceptional, and it feels wonderful in the hand. It balances very well on the X-T2 even without the battery grip, being close in weight to the XF 18-55 (and just over 1/2 the weight of the XF 16-55). The only weakness I've found is a fairly significant level of field curvature below f4 that can result in soft corners but sharp edges in the foreground when focusing 10-15 feet into the scene (for example, shooting a crowd scene at f2.8), but this isn't too objectionable and is resolved by focusing closer or reducing aperture to f4. I also find that subjects too close to the edges of the frame appear rather distorted or stretched, despite this being an optically corrected lens with minimal software correction, presumably due to the native ultra-wide-angle coverage that is cropped to the APS-C frame. Considering the high price of the lens I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, but on balance it's a great addition to the Fuji XF lineup.

Well, the shade of this lens is the only downside, it seems that is very fragile and will be broken in couple of months. However, there is an extra metal lens shade made by Fujifilm, very fancy and expensive, about US$70,00. This should be the regular lens shade included on kit, but it needs to be purchased separately.TIP 1: look for bundles kit to buy lenses here ate Adorama, they offer nice prices and many accessories included on the regular kit lens, sometimes for free, on those bundles.A VALUABLE TIP 2: In the first quarter of year, Fujifilm offers discounts on the lenses, about 30%, sometimes. So, keep tuned to purchase lenses at a very good price. Don't forget to look for the bundles also.

It is incomparable. If youve invested in an X system body, do yourself a favor and try this lens.
I read a lot about this lens. Some say it is legendary. Some even say this is the best lens they have ever used. After using it for just a week, here is what I think about it.... It is a fairly big lens. 16-80 size. Not super heavy. But noticeable. I am using it on a Fuji X-S10. Image quality is excellent. For the price, it better be! Very easy to get used to with the clutch for manual and auto focus. Auto focus is noisy. Good thing I record audio with a separate recorder. It is noticeable when using the recorder on the camera. Overall, the autofocus is better than usual. Not as quick as say the 16-80 or the other newer prime lenses by Fuji....better than some but not all. I am using it on a Fuji X-S10. Image quality is excellent. For the price, it better be! Very easy to get used to with the clutch for manual and auto focus. Auto focus is noisy. Good thing I record audio with a separate recorder. It is noticeable when using the recorder on the camera. Overall, the autofocus is better than usual. Not as quick as say the 16-80 or the other newer prime lenses by Fuji....better than some but not all. Not a big deal as it is a wide lens and so focus comes quickly. Manual focus is spot on. I love the fact that the focus ring does not spin forever. This is a very fun lens to use. I use it with both auto and manual focus and using it is satisfying knowing that the images are going to be way better than average. This lens can almost be qualified as a macro lens....it is very versatile. I can get as close as 6 inches for a shot. Images that close are clear and detailed. Really good for street shooting. Very little if any distortion and just a tad bit of chromatic aberration which goes away as Fstop is raised. Is it the super lens that everyone says it is? Depends. On you and your shooting style. It is an OK video lens...not great but very close. Excellent night lens. F1.4 makes that happen. Feels like quality. Build is excellent. Glass is superb. Boca is bocalicious. Image quality is right up there with some of the best. Autofocus noise kind of cuts into video quality. I agree with Ken Wheeler, the angry photographer. If you are a still photographer, this is a must have king of the hill lens for Fuji. If you do video...there are better choices but this lens can do excellent video if you allow for separate recording of audio. YMMV
