The G&L Legacy blends contemporary refinements from the Leo Fender†-designed S-500 and Comanche models with classic Alnico V pickups. If your holy grail is faithful Alnico single-coil tone with modern refinements and superb craftsmanship, the Legacy makes for an excellent choice. The Legacy’s vintage-spec CLF-100 Alnico V pickups have that unmistakable chime and quack reminiscent of the best examples from the late ‘50s, thanks to the work of G&L’s Paul Gagon. Gagon found his inspiration reviewing original prints stored in Leo’s private laboratory at G&L, but that was just the start. In the early ’80s, Gagon was an R&D engineer at another company when he was tasked with finding out what was so special about the early bolt-on guitars many players raved about. What he learned from the builders matched his own engineering analysis. You see, back in the day, the actual spec of pickups coming down that old production line varied considerably. That meant coming up with the right specs for the Legacy pickups was more challenging than simply following the prints. Gagon’s persistence paid off as the Legacy garnered rave reviews from both players and magazines like Guitar Player and Guitar World. This axe is no slave to the past, however, starting with Leo’s PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) system which functions on all three pickups for dramatically more variety than the vintage setup. What’s more, the Legacy features a Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, a work of engineering art which allows bending up or down with unsurpassed stability, while offering a silky feel through its beefy aluminum vibrato arm. The Legacy is all about honest, classic Alnico tone complemented by Leo’s own modern refinements. And now, it’s available at a price within reach of every working musician. Once you play a G&L Tribute Series, you’ll never look back.

I like my legacy tribute better than my players series. Picked it up for 300.00, paid seven hundred for the players. I rarely play it and will probably sell it. The tremlo is superior and it has the American pickups. Just a steal if you can get a good one used.

G&L guitars were produced by George Fullerton (G) and Leo Fender (L). These are the same two guys who started Fender in the late 1940s. Leo himself said that the G&L line of guitars were the best he ever made. The G&L Tribute Series Legacy outscores the American Standard Strat 8.7 to 8.5 at the Ultimate Guitar website. G&L guitars are underrated and a great guitar for student or pro.

I needed a "Strat" style guitar for recordings at home for a long time. The MIM Strats, although great guitars, never did that for me when I tried them. My main guitar is ES335 and I was not looking for another expansive guitar so when I saw the Legacy TBT, I have decided to give it a go. I am not crazy about buying guitars without checking them in person first, but it was on sale so I was hoping for the best. The reviews were mostly good, but some were complaining about the QC and poor workmanship. These guitars are being produced in Indonesia and it is inevitable to get unlucky from time to time-that's a given. Make sure you have a good exchange policy from the seller if you get a bad apple. Mine was new and electronics/tremolo worked great. No loose output jack-a good sign. Truss rod needed a twick as the action was too low and there was a fret buzz on the low position. The dark rosewood fretboard took a day or two to break in. I used a special lemon spray to help it opening up a bit. Overall; Great instrument for the money! Good hardware(better than MIM strat I might add), good american pups, heavier than a strat(which I like) and stays in tune.

The guitar has an incredible value for money. The microphones sound great in my opinion. Though some people have changed the middle and bridge pickups I'm pleased with the sound so far.As far as looks goes it looks great! The vintage finishing on the neck is a bit too much and is almost looking a bit yellow. The pickguard looks great but there are some sharp edges along the bridge and pickup selector. Otherwise it looks great! It only has one issue which is that it's running isn't perfect, it's great for the price but you might need to change the tuners. There is some moderate buzzing on the frets which means that you can't really use it with a super low action. I was able to achieve less buzzing on my squier bullet strat for reference. All and all, it's a ... MoreThe guitar has an incredible value for money. The microphones sound great in my opinion. I think it suits someone that aims for s vintage feel but likes some of the features found in modern guitars.
