A letdown in quality control..

So, I love this RAM...but I also have some undeniable concerns. For some background I have used ONLY G.Skill RAM for more than 5 years in all my projects. Their price-to-performance and quality control have always been outstanding. However this time i had trouble: my first kit caused constant BSODs after a year of use. After getting an RMA for the first kit, the replacement kit arrived with defective flickering RGB. It's disappointing to see a company perceived as leading in quality have such a dramatic drop-off. Especially when you put your faith (and money) towards their products OVER the competition. I will update when I get my -SECOND- replacement (total of three kits).

Great RAM, but too great for my older hardware.

After installing and setting the profile in the bios (very easy) the computer booted up. But I was getting multiple errors in prime95 at 800k within minutes so I don't consider that stable. Even each stick by itself gave the same issue so I believe this is a limit of my motherboard/cpu as this RAM is definitely not on the QVL. I manually tweaked the values using Ryzen calculator but was at best able to attain 3400MHz 16-18-18-18-39 to be stable with prime95 on my X370. My motherboard marketing material claims "lets you drive memory frequencies to 3200MHz and beyond when overclocked!" so I guess I'm lucky to get 3400MHz. For AMD setups this is a great choice. i am not a big RGB fan especially since the RGB software is buggy AF - so to compromise i just set everything to white and i have to say it looks clean. the heat protection is decent as under heavy load i do not see a huge difference in temps.side note. back to the RGB. i did make this a 5 star based on the performance of the hardware and not the required software. i would have dropped 3 stars for the RGB fusion software but that wouldn't be fair to the performance of the RAM itself. Plus there are multiple programs out there designed by end users to run multiple RGB items without the need to run their proprietary software.still a great match for AMD builds

Look its got the rgbs. Its got decent speeds. The latency for access times really won't that big of a draw back especially at the 3600 speed units. The alternative version just cost too much for little bump in speed. My rig gas 64gb of ram, running multiple vms, or doing mining projects its been a good time. You could save more money by getting the non rgb version. But like...rgb is the greatest most useless aspect of my machine and I love it.

The Viper is cheaper and doesn't have the RGB, but it also lacks the temperature sensors. Sadly, this wasn't apparent when visiting G.SKILL web site. Incredible memory
2 August 2021

High capacity dims, blazing fast speeds, looks incredible. Not much else needs to be said. Sure it's expensive, but its some of the best memory out there. If you are planning on getting this memory, make sure you go into your BIOS and enable XMP/DOCP to take advantage of the advertised speeds since it runs slower out of the box. Paired with a Ryzen 5 5600x and everything runs smooth as silk. Also if you are planning on using a top mounted AIO, make sure your case has enough clearance at the top because the memory is a little large. I have a top mounted 280mm AIO and I barely had enough room. Overall very happy with this memory and would absolutely recommend it!

It Just Works

It's such a pain to try and find memory on the motherboard QVL lists, the lists are badly maintained but it's understandable with such a large variety of RAM kits on the market. I took a chance on this kit given all the high reviews and AMD users. It works amazingly well! I've paired this memory with an Ryzen 5600X and the MSI MAG X570S Tomahawk. The XMP profile works right out of the box without and extra tinkering. Also it has no issue fitting under the Noctua NH-D15, but it depends on your case if you'll be able to fit the secondary fan. I can confirm there are zero space issues inside the Fractal Torrent case with this RAM and the NH-D15.

Perfect For Ryzen 3000

I am very meticulous and try to educate myself as much as reasonably possible before making any kind of significant purchase. When planning my recent Ryzen 7 3800X build, one of my biggest sticking points turned out to be which memory kit to buy. This particular kit was one of the first I stumbled upon, but I was initially put off by the fact that - despite the relatively high overall rating at the time - there were actually quite a few very poor reviews mentioning issues getting this to post at advertised speeds. This particular kit was one of the first I stumbled upon, but I was initially put off by the fact that - despite the relatively high overall rating at the time - there were actually quite a few very poor reviews mentioning issues getting this to post at advertised speeds. So off I went, falling into a rabbit hole researching trying to find which kit REALLY works best for Ryzen 3000 cpus. The best info I ended up finding were YT videos from Gamers Nexus and Tech Deals who concluded that the most ideal memory for Ryzen 3000 - the "sweet spot" - is either 3600 cl16 or 3200 cl14, but preferably 3600. Based on that, I went back to this kit. But the poor reviews once again made me question it. I know enough to be dangerous, but am by no means and expert so I just wanted a good kit that worked and wouldn't give me trouble. Further research led me to the b-die Samsung kits - which many swear by and I've no doubt about their quality. However, those kits are both significantly more expensive and getting harder and harder to come by as they are, from my understanding EOL. In addition, I question how much of a real world, non-benchmark scenario impact such a kit would have at least for me and my needs. For the third time then, back I went to this kit. The sale during BF week was enough to push me into pulling the trigger on it. Finished my build and at first startup, it posted at 2133mhz - but I didn't panic! I entered bios (MSI Meg X570 Ace) and simply enabled XMP, and there you have it - 3600 and timings as advertised. If you need/choose to update your bios to latest version, then you will almost definitely have to enable XMP again, no big deal. Overall great kit for Ryzen. Your search has come to an end! RGB looks great too!

Quality fast RAM with RGB

I bought two sets of this RAM based on the high number of positive reviews (plus to make sure I had the best chance of getting 4 sticks with same memory chips). I wasn't disappointed. I have the Asus x570 Dark Hero (also from Micro Center). RAM defaults to 2133 MHz, but after enabling D.O.C.P. it shows up at it's full 3600 MHz potential. Ran Memtest86 for over 2.5 hours with no errors. RAM manufacturer is SK Hynix according to CPU-Z. I was hoping for Samsung chips, but I understand that would be more $$$. Besides, these seem to work just fine. The RAM is packaged in a case/heat sync that's half matte aluminum and half brushed dark metal. The RGB capability was recognized directly by Asus's Armoury Crate software so no G.Skill software needed to be loaded.Like someone else here mentioned, the LEDs stay on when when sleeping the computer (they seem freeze in the last state/colors being displayed). That in itself is a known and industry-wide problem with all RGB RAM. I did a work-around to this using a Armoury Crate's Profile and 2 AutoHotKey scripts, and documented how I did it on a Reddit post "Work-around: Turning off G.Skill Trident Z RGB lighting in sleep mode" if anyone is interested. Now the RAM LEDs go off when I sleep my computer.

I initially bought a set of non-AMD optimized G.Skill DDR 3600 memory for my AMD 3950X build, and had nothing but issues. The ASRock Taichi MB wouldn't allow the 3600MHz rate to stick - even with XMP enabled.
