I had this machine for a few years before deciding to write a review. I was really excited about having a fully automatic machine. Although it makes good coffee, there are some things I don't like. First, it dispenses a lot of water when you first turn it on, having to empty the water out quite frequently. Second, you have to take it almost completely apart to clean the inside. In addition, you have to use the decalcifying solution to maintain it. It takes too much maintenance, as far as I'm concerned. I was also disappointed with the amount of crema and the steam wand. My daughter has a less expensive Baby Gaggia that froths better and gives more crema. I eventually had to throw it away when it stopped brewing altogether. It just kept dumping out the ground coffee ... MoreI had this machine for a few years before deciding to write a review. I was really excited about having a fully automatic machine. I recently upgraded from the Classic (after 8 years) to the Brera. I was unsure initially but so far so good! Easy to use, less time to make espresso drinks, and super easy to set up. It’s super helpful to watch WholeLatteLove’s set up video. We set ours on the finest grind and highest aroma settings and it makes great espresso. Yes the water needs refilled each time but with 2 people using it- not a big deal. Also, you have to empty the (collecting) water tray each time- no big deal. It makes a double shot by grinding beans twice so if you want two double shots beans it grinds 4 times but still seems quicker than grinding beans separately for the Classic. I am interested to see how it stands up over time but so far we are loving it! I have noticed that the shots ... MoreI recently upgraded from the Classic (after 8 years) to the Brera. I have noticed that the shots are a teensy teensy bit less flavorful than with the Classic but it’s not a big enough difference to make up for the ease and time saving that the Brera offers. It is very compact for a semiautomatic and the design is great. I will report back on maintenance and durability as time passes.

You will need to experiment, or seek help from an experienced barista to relearn what coffee to buy.In terms of extraction from the beans this method of coffee making is not as efficient… You will go through coffee beans faster. (Although drinking more coffee because it’s so easy to make is also a factor lol)The water reservoir chamber is not very big - a sacrifice that helps keep the machine small and compact. But if you plan to put this machine somewhere where your water supply is not immediately handy (in an office) You will also want to keep a big jug of water nearby because you will be refilling the machine often. The machine also discharges water into the lower tray - we think it’s self cleaning while it dumps grounds. The manual recommends that you empty and rinse the tray every day. This is more than a suggestion! The one questionable thing in an otherwise good product: the lid over the coffee bean grinder doesn’t sit flat or snug compared to what we see in the videos online. It is not really affecting performance. I mention it because it may be just a manufacturer flaw in that part - I’m curious if other people have experience the same.

I hate to write a bad review...but I purchased the Gaggia Brera based on the wonderful reviews. This is our second one after the first lasted right at 2 years, because we were not careful with making sure we used DRY coffee beans on the first one. So we babied this one and carefully used only dry beans! But after several months I had to call and walk through the "repair" process with Whole Latte Love's repair person. It was extremely difficult to get a person on the phone. They did send us the replacement part free and directions to take the machine apart and replace the grinder mechanism is on their website. It was extremely difficult to get a person on the phone. They did send us the replacement part free and directions to take the machine apart and replace the grinder mechanism is on their website. All this had to be done because a plastic part connected to the burr grinder broke inside somehow. ?? Then right before the one year warranty expired the red bean hopper light started coming on again and the Brera was not grinding properly AGAIN. When this happens it wastes the coffee it just ground and completely stops the machine from pulling the shot. This happens again and again - we tried everything to get the problem solved. This time I reluctantly decided to PAY the shipping costs and repair fee to get it fixed correctly, because there was no other solution for this machine that was not working properly. It is an EXPENSIVE process to send to Whole Latte Love's repair center. Then they kept the original box I sent it to them in, "repaired" it and sent back in some kind of foam packing that was not nearly as protective as the original box and packing I sent it in...it worked really well for a few weeks! AND then the dreaded RED light once AGAIN began appearing showing a malfunction or clog in bean hopper/grinding area...unit was leaking again underneath...it's been an expensive and disappointing experience all around. I cannot recommend this machine.
Perhaps it’s because Whole Latte Love sold us a refurbished lemon, but this machine has never worked. Every time we called for support they would give us the run around. The grinder goes through the equivalent of 10 shots to pull 2. The machine they sold us definitely had a problem with the grinder before they sold it to us and they refused to acknowledge it. To fix it we need to pay for a new grinder ourselves. So basically they sell you a broken machine them make you pay to fix it. The machine has had this problem since day 1. This machine is only 2 years old and is at our vacation home, so it gets used on weekend only. Our Gaggia Classic has been going strong for over 10 years of daily use. We love it.If you buy a new machine keep in mind that the coffee is weak ... MorePerhaps it’s because Whole Latte Love sold us a refurbished lemon, but this machine has never worked. I have had this machine for three years and it operates well for an entry level super automatic machine and especially considering this price point. If you are new to "bean to cup" this is a good machine and certainly makes better espresso than machines that use capsules. This machine allows you to make consecutive shots without waiting which is impressive. The only adjustment you can make is shot size. Since I drink more espresso now, I have noticed I want the ability to change temperature or pressure when making a shot. It may not seem like a big deal but if you want your espresso hotter or with more crema or extract more flavor from the beans you will have to be able to make those changes. When I purchase my next machine, I'll make sure it will have the ability ... MoreI have had this machine for three years and it operates well for an entry level super automatic machine and especially considering this price point. I absolutely love espresso! I’ve had multiple machines in the past, but never super automatic. I guess I’m just lazy, but as much as I love espresso, the whole routine with manual machines became tiresome to me and eventually I stopped using them and they ended up on eBay! recently after having a delicious espresso when I walk a coffee shop, I started researching again. I came across that Brera. It seems to me when it comes to espresso only, that the only difference between the Brera, which is an entry-level machine, and the more expensive Gaggia super automatics is the amount of available programming. The brew unit in the Brera is identical to the more expensive units, and since I basically only drink espresso, that makes that’s the perfect unit for me. The most ... MoreI absolutely love espresso! The brew unit in the Brera is identical to the more expensive units, and since I basically only drink espresso, that makes that’s the perfect unit for me. The most outstanding feature is that it goes to Abreu cycle twice. If you asked for a double espresso, that means new beans, not just double the water. To my palate. This makes exceptional espresso, with incredible ease. If like me, you were dry, a single, or a double at least once a day, this is a no-brainer.
I owned a used Saeco Magic Comfort + which served me for a overa decade. The pump clogged and i decided to buy a new machine. The Gaggia Brera was a good price and had the features I excited. Whole Latte Love had the best price with free shipping. The Brera has a smaller water tank and hopper than the Saeco, but is considerably less expensive than a Saeco of the same size as the old one. You can get maybe three full cups from the Brera before refilling the water tank.Operation is quite easy. Setup was a breeze and establishing the correct grind took a few minutes and a few cups of coffee.Coffee is perfect, as good as the Saeco.Hopefully it will last as long as the Saeco!
Your machine has many flaws i dont likeThe power button in back is dangerously close proximity to overflow water reservoirTakes long time till finally get coffeeI hate the small tank water - have to refill for every 2cups of coffeeWatching video on how to clean is a nightmare - have to unscrew guts of machine just to clean metal filter!!! Why does machine not come w/at least extra filter? like other brands. You sold me an older model (according to your video) the frother has a plastic insert which will quickly fail from high heat - your newer model has a metal insert which will not fail same way) I am very disappointed your co. would do this to customer - this was a very expensive machine
Soon after purchasing this machine I noticed it was leaking clear water under the drip tray onto the counter. We are also constantly getting the "no beans" error light. I've taken this machine apart and cleaned out the grinder multiple times and have tried different beans. No matter what, we get the "no bean" error at least once per day, but usually more. The brew unit also tends to get large clumps of spent grounds built up on it, so that part also needs frequent cleaning.I've worked with Whole Latte Love support a couple of times on the issue with the water getting under the drip tray on to the counter, and while they have great customer service and provided good troubleshooting documentation, the issue still persists. It's very frustrating that a machine that ... MoreSoon after purchasing this machine I noticed it was leaking clear water under the drip tray onto the counter. I end up wasting several minutes every morning babysitting this machine as I attempt to make coffee/espresso for my wife and myself before we leave for work. I grabbed my old reliable Bunn coffee maker out of the basement and started using that again because I was so fed up with how much time had to be spent just to get the Brera to brew.
