Do not buy the Gainsborough passage or privacy sets. This range has a faulty mechanical design which over time renders it very dangerous. Because the screws securing the knobs do not pass through the latch, as is standard in other products, these Gainsborough handles do not remain fixed in place. Over time they come loose and float in place and need constant attention and retightening. But sometimes this loosening happens rapidly, and will render the entire unit unusable! Unusable is NOT acceptable for a doorknob. You cannot have a doorknob fail with an adult, child, baby, pet trapped in a room unable to escape. We had these beautiful looking knobs installed in our brand new house in 2018. Twice… TWICE… in the last five months my wife and infant have been stuck on one side of a door with no way of escape. Each time was a different door in our home. Most recently when they were trapped, the unit would not respond to any attempt at repair and the latch refused to budge. We tried multiple solutions to free them from the room. Eventually, to avoid destroying our door trim, I literally had to tear the latch apart piece by piece to free my wife and child.Perhaps that sounds over dramatic. But a doorknob has one job. The faulty mechanical design of these knobs mean they fail that job. These knobs fail their only job. They are not worth the purchase price. Skip them and buy from a provider where the screws securing the knobs pass through the latch mechanism itself and do not float free.

Good strong stylish door handles just what I wanted.Have purchased this brand before and they last for years.
Check the reviews in the "privacy" version of this door knob. The same problems apply here.As the other reviews describe, they locks don't stay in place in the door, they "float" and eventually don't sit where they should sit. This means they eventually "slip" into the hole in the door and sit at an angle. But that isn't the worst of the problems. One of our doors appeared to be ok, wasn't floating. We closed the door one day, and refused to open again. Both myself and my wife were trapped inside this room, we'd have to smash our way out the window to get out.Fortunately, my daughter was outside, so we told her how to take apart her side of the lock, and I used a screwdriver on my side to take apart mine. We closed the door one day, and refused to open again. Both myself and my wife were trapped inside this room, we'd have to smash our way out the window to get out.Fortunately, my daughter was outside, so we told her how to take apart her side of the lock, and I used a screwdriver on my side to take apart mine. Once all dismantled, it still wouldn't open. There are plastic parts that turn and pull the sprung stopper in and out, to open the door. Those had broken and come apart from each other. We had no way of pulling the stopper back.So like a jail-break movie, my daughter slid a hacksaw under the door, and we were able to hacksaw the stopper apart. It took us over an hour to get that door open.Once open, removing the door lock from the door was still a challenge, as we couldn't pull the metal tube thing out through the door (the way it was installed)... the door lock had spread open. So we had to bend it with pliers until I could finally remove it.Now we have a door with no handle. And am wondering what will happen with the other door handles!
