So far this is a fine piece of equipment. I use it daily, it is on 7-8 hours however I do not use the map on every call. Only 2 issues that I think need improvement.1. Updating maps via wi-fi bombed out on me, I have fast a reliable inet too. So I had to hook to pc, and that worked first time.2. Voice command works for the most part however as the manual said, noisy environments will have an issue. I have a 2 way radio and AC. have to make sure both are turned way down or off then works most of the time. when entering an address I must say the %23s independently like nine zero twoinstead of 902 or will not recognize. entering manually is best for me. I f anything else shows up I will update this review. I purchased in store so i can't comment on the online ... MoreSo far this is a fine piece of equipment. I like my new GPS. I bought the Garmin DriveSmart 71 EX with traffic. The information said it was the latest model, so I was excited to get it at what I thought was a really good price!!! (under $200.00.)Like most folks, I take a couple of trips during the year!!! Unfortunately, I have found my phone's GPS to be horribly inaccurate taking me miles out of my way!!! And when you are out of state that is truly upsetting!!!After I purchased this GPS, I found that it didn't have live traffic. I thought about returning it, but it would cost a whole lot more to buy one with live traffic. I wasn't really sure how much I needed Live Traffic, but it sounded like a good feature to have. And of course, I like having the latest features. So, anyway, I had a 2 hour trip to ... MoreI like my new GPS. I bought the Garmin DriveSmart 71 EX with traffic. So, I took my new GPS with me.I thought it strange that my GPS couldn't find the address, even tho I found it on my computer, and on my phone!!! However, I finally put in the name of the town I was going to, and it helped me get there. On the way home, I was able to enter my home's address, and it helped me find a route to get home. Hopefully. with some further updates, it will recognize every address. It is so aggravating when it doesn't recognize an address!!!My phone will NOT navigate with spoken instructions. It constantly needs updating. That's why I finally decided to invest in a Garmin GPS. My dad had one years ago, and it was great!!!Good Features:The Garmin DriveSmart 71 EXwith Traffic is really nice. It has a huge 7 inch screen, a wind shield mount with a suction cup, the User Manual, 2 cords - one with a cigarette lighter plug-in, and a shorter one with a USB plug-in.It also has an automatic daytime

This was easy to set up. It actually gets information from the apps off my phone, like weather and road conditions. I work Emergency Incidents (wildfire, search and rescue, floods etc.) so this is important. I do wish I had a better choice of vehicle icons and voices. So not into hearing a female voice giving directions. Love the truck, but does it have to be a 'monster truck'? These are petty compared to other great things this does! This unit grabs my phone as soon as I turn it on, even if I am using my headset. The voice quality and clarity is astonishing! Much better than my headset, and I don't sound like I am 'under water' to the person I am speaking with. (This was an issue with the last three GPS units I had.) The voice control did not work well at all. The software was terrible, made little sense. The searches would come up bust quite often and was also inconsistent. It would find something one way, but when you went to add it to favorites you had to search again separately, and then it would say it could not find it. The database is sparse and even major retailers are not in there. I will stick with my 20 year old nuvi1450 as Garmin has been steadily getting worse since then. When it dies I will get by with google maps.
I ordered the Model 65, but Walmart upgraded it to the latest Model 71 at no extra charge and at a lower price than buying direct from Garmin, a nice surprise. This is my second Garmin which ran out of storage space after about 15 years. The new screen is much larger and easier to see; the unit has more options, and screens shows more data. The voice commands are clearer. Overall, this is a great improvement over my former Nuvi 1490LTM.
This Garmin is great. The screen is big and screen is user friendly. It is similar to other Garmin GPS item's so a person is not learning all over again. But if it is new, it would be easy for them. Getting addresses from all over the U.S is a lot easier on this updated model also. It also connects to my blue tooth, which is really nice.
I really like this GPS. The 71 is bigger than my old one. It's easier to read, shows you speed and the speed limit, beeps at school zones, changing speed limits, railroad crossings or whatever you choose. If your speeding it will change the speed displayed with red highlights around speed. It has a traffic feature that makes the road with congestion turn red. Overall it's a great upgrade from my old Garmin 50 model.
I bought this navigator to replace a Tom Tom I have had for 10 years. I am very happy with this navigator. I can search on my phone to find an address and then send it to the navigator and I'm ready to go. I live on rural roads and the Tom Tom would not calculate directions to where I live. This navigator does. The Tom Tom would show you the current time, time to designation, and miles to destination all at the same time on the screen with the directions. The Garmin does not. You can select any of them plus a lot more and then it will display that. I find that to be unhandly when I am driving. Overall I am happy, it is a keeper.
I thought that if I'd spent the money on a good navi system, then it would be excellent. Wrong! Doesnt show 1/3 of the roads I drive and it keeps seeing service roads for utility company as full access. I'm not looking at going off road in a new Acura Type-S. I wanted a navi system because none of the roads in my town have signs and wanted to know what roads are where and I travel alot. The Google maps on my phone works great but I need my phone freed up for other things. Plus I was wanting a something with a bigger screen. Pease don't waste your money on this expensive until. The cheaper ones works just like this one, but still missing a lot of the roads.
This Garmin product shocked me from the very first time I used it. To my surprise, I got a phone call while driving and my Garmin GPS started calling me with audio and the usual green and red signs like in my phone and caller id included; the surprises continued down the road to later have a WhatsApp text on one side of the real estate 7 in.screen. Apart from the accuracy of maps, I also received a text message down the road. What else can I get with this genie?
