While not designed this way, with creative placement, it can even be used as an inside the cabin camera (which is especially useful for ride-share drivers). The HD video output is consistently good, even in low-light. Sound capture won't win any awards for fidelity, but it's enough to capture conversation in the car and/or impact sounds or tire squeals. If you want lots of bells and whistles and are technologically advanced, you may appreciate higher-end options from competitors. For a simple, set-it-and-forget-it solution to protect yourself in the event of a collision or vehicle damage, however, the Dash Cam Mini is a wonderful solution.

No screen. I’m sometimes worried if it’s actually in place so i connect my phone and stream live so i can see. It took me about 30mins to install. I own a mazda cx5 2020 and it’s hard to find a place to place this. So it’s in the middle and visible. When reviewing videos that were taken during the night, plates are not as clear unless you’re stopped but still quality is not that great. Head lights from the other side are just too bright that you can’t capture plates. During the day video, it’s acceptable but looking at plates are not that great. Audio is okay. The only reason i bought this was because i had some best buy gift cards, and they don’t have viofo a119 v3. I have the viofo a119 v3 on my other car and it’s awesome.

Good mini dashcam
23 January 2020

I delayed buying a dashcam until I could get one that was small enough to be inconspicuous in the car. This one "hides" between the rear view mirror and windshield and does not disrupt the view of the driver. The negative for this unit is powering the unit. One has to string the cable to a "cigarette" lighter power adapter. Otherwise, connecting to a USB port on the car puts it in computer-connected mode and the unit does not operate. It puts it in photo/video retrieval mode. There needs to be a switch or power cable that does not activate the computer attached mode. However, even with this shortcoming, I have bought two of these - one for each car. They are portable but I use one in the rear of my newer SUV to record behind me.

If you drive in a populated area, you likely know how dangerous roads can be. I don't live in a big city, but law enforcement doesn't bother much with most road issues here — and bad drivers are all over the place. I've had this dashcam for over a year as of this review, and I use it OFTEN. I am very glad I picked it up, and this is a great product for the price. It fits behind my rear-view mirror and it's difficult to notice unless you know it's there. At any point, I can click the button on the back to record a clip that spans the past and future of the press by a fair margin. (You can record sound too, but I have that off) It captures a wide angle, nearly 180º, and automatically captures a clip when it detects rapid change that could be an accident or other dangerous incident. It is easy enough to figure out how to download clips onto your phone (it took a few minutes to figure out the first time, but now it's not a problem) — and if you prefer, you can simply remove the microSD card and copy them to a computer or mobile device that way. Side note... you do need a microSD card for it. I popped a 128 GB card in mine, back when they were really cheap. It's worth it, in my opinion.I've used mine for two purposes: recording people driving dangerously around me, and capturing humorous clips of people who don't know how to drive that I can share on social media. I do the latter far more often — multiple times a week usually, because there are a lot of bad drivers out there. I must admit, reviewing the footage can be a lot of fun.If you live in my area... drive safe, or you may end up on my social media pages for my friends/family and I to laugh at.

Wanted so save money with smaller dashcam, ended up with dashcam I constantly having problems with. Not powering up, constantly asking to reformat the memory card. Messages come across blue tooth only, if it is off, and you don't have visual of the dashcam, you will miss the fact that there is a prompt which prevents dashcam from recording. No audible warning at all. When it works quality is normal, WHEN IT WORKS. I use premium memory cards with correct parameters. It is slightly past one year so I guess it is heading to the garbage bin

Overheats almost every day
27 July 2019

When it works it's quite good, but unfortunately, the dashcam has proven to be quite useless as it overheats almost every day that I've used it for the last 6 weeks. When it overheats it shuts down permanently. It will not boot back up when it cools down. You have to let it cool down and then unplug it and plug it back into bring it back to life. Turning off the car and starting again doesn't count since it's always got 12v power with the car parking cable. It overheats not in extreme heat either. The first time it happened it was only in the 80's, and it's not like it overheats while sitting in a baking 130º car for an hour. If it's hot in the car it overheats within minutes. Additionally, in Parking mode it tends to record gibberish, blank and corrupted files. When it's not overheating and saving garbage files, however, it works well. The video is very clear albeit a bit oversaturated.

This camera is everything you need and nothing you don’t. I don’t miss the screen because it is easy to frame your shot with the live-view option in the app. Connectivity with the app works great—intuitive interface and you can trim a portion of the clip you want to export to your phone, which speeds up the process considerably. Footage is quality is excellent for 1080 even in low light. The included 13’ usb cable is perfect for the front windshield (although you may need a longer cable for the rear windshield depending on your vehicle—for pickup trucks and small cars it should be enough). Very easy to install / setup and then you can forget about it because it runs automatically. Make sure you remember to purchase a microSD card. I’m buying two more of these cameras because they’re that good. Garmin has hit a home run with this one! Bravo!

Worked alright for the first year. The app was always finicky and the buttons are not intuitive. Out of if nowhere the camera stopped working. Will only light up green on the status led. Indicates power issue. Changed power source multiple times and still same issue. Now junk just over a year old...

You’d be surprised with what this cam can do
10 September 2020

I used it for a while in my car not knowing what I was going to get from it. And by that I mean the images. Used it for several weeks without stopping to check what the videos/images would look like... and that was all because I didn’t have a full function laptop/computer. When I did, I decided to plug the memory card in to view what I had captured so far for the past couple of weeks. I was stunned! Couldn’t believe how sharp the images and clips were. Vivid clear images of car number plates and the sound quality was far more than I had anticipated. I hadn’t downloaded the app onto my phone at the time to see what the shots were. It works regardless of the app download. Looking forward to buy another one for rear view images/video clips.
