I am about to put my fourth one of these in my shopping basket. I have them for two bikes. But they never survive a battery replacement. The compartment opens, out comes the battery, in goes the new one, back on goes the cover and then nothing. Am I the only one who finds these things to be really cheaply put together? While they work they work well. But they have a really short lifespan. Certainly not long enough to warrant the price.

Before I bought this speed sensor I was a little bit nervous because some online reviewers complained about it being difficult to pair with their device. My device is a Garmin 235, and it paired very easily. Keep other paired devices at least 10 meters away during the process. I paired by 235 with the speed sensor at my desk, mimicking the movement of the bicycle hub by holding the sensor a few inches away, while moving my hand back and forth (the sensor uses an accelerometer to count revolutions). It paired right up; took less than 60 seconds. I think you're supposed to ride the bike outside, to get optimum calibration, but I haven't done that yet. New sensor for a new set of wheels. Much simpler system than the previous version of seperate magnet + sensor. Easy to fit and bike computer recognised it immediately. Seems to be robust and works in all weather. Battery lasts and is easy to change.
This sensor is an extension to the Garmin Edge. The Garmin Edge primarily uses GPS to calculate speed. I commute daily to work through woods and the Mt Baker tunnel in Seattle. I get drop-outs, incorrect speed, and missed miles for my commute. It sometimes takes up to a mile for the Garmin Edge to lock in enough satellites to work. With this sensor, I get the best of both worlds. There are no magnets to align or tire diameter to set. The Garmin Edge uses GPS to calibrate the speed sensor.The installation instructions are not very clear. Don't try to setup of the ANT device in your living room, it has to be done outside on your bike. The sensor needs to be moving in a forward director, not just rotating to activate the accelerometer.
I wanted to use my Garmin Edge 500 on my MTB but using the old cadence and speed sensor built in to one unit did not fit on my bike. As I didn't really care to know the cadence when MTBing this new little sensor seemed to fit the bill.Installation really couldn't be easier. I tried to make it more complex in my head than it actually was. Just strap the thing around your hub and start riding. Done. Well worth the money for the data you get.I'm still working out how accurate the sensor is in relation to the other tracking devices I use through phone apps so I can't report on that at this time.

Set up was super simple and syncing with the indoor trainer was easy and painless. How ever when it came time to replace the battery this past week it an exercise in frustration. It says to twist the battery cover to open. Ya right. Impossible to twist off so popped the cover off and put new battery in and then tried to put the cover back on. I tried every thing I could think of but to no avail. The cover is almost impossible to twist back into the locking position. You have your GPS cycle computer so why would you need speed? I bought mine for use on a turbo trainer. The GPS tells me that I'm not moving - obviously, so you need something. The resistance setting of your trainer has little relation to actual road. So actual trainer speed is only a guide to your own relative performance - but its data nonetheless.This is usually bundled with a cadence sensor (BTW the product picture shows both items but THIS product is only speed.) Its worth having for static training or where GPS fails.How hard it is to fit depends on the diameter of your wheel hub. I needed to look for "cadence/speed" rather than just "speed" Then you need to set the wheel diameter. Take a tip and measure the circumference by rolling the bike. I don't know how "Auto" could possibly work.And then you are done. Every time you ride you computer will pick it up.
I'm on my second unit and about to return it as well. Like others have said the it's a breeze to setup and if it worked consistently it would be great. My problem is that it constantly drops the signal with my Fenix 3. I'm using it on a trainer at home and from my research it's either an issue with parts on my bike/trainer being magnetized or interference from a wifi signal. Because it's on a trainer I can't move the sensor to the front wheel and I can't turn off all of the wifi signals that hit my home every time I use the thing (have tried turning my off to test but it's just one of half a dozen that could be interfering). Garmin support has been absolutely useless.
Brilliantly easy to install, and a really nice concept!But something's not working here. Maybe it's the head unit I have it mated to (Garmin 25), or maybe I've purchased a bad unit, but I'm very unimpressed with the reading accuracy of this thing. Speeds jump wildly around within a 5-15% range, and it loses its signal in treed areas. What? Isn't this precisely the problem that a speed sensor with a GPS unit is supposed to solve -- consistent speed tracking? I've been tracking wildly different speeds than I did with my ol'fashioned magnet computer, making it hard to pace on climbs I'm used to.A shame -- I really wanted to like this unit!!
