Better than expected. Voice control actually works

Very easy to install. I liked that they supplied both an extra long cable and a short one depending on mounting options. The voice control works really well so I can save a video snippet without trying to press the correct button. JB had this on special for $80 off which made this a great deal. Good to buy from a big box store so returns should be easier to deal with if needed.

This was a replacement for a malfunctioning previous unit. I was a bit disappointed that there was no memory card enclosed. This is an oversight on a product this expensive. The saving Grace for this device is the additional functions from the unit. Lane divert, traffic moving alert, collision warning and speed camera notifications are all included. Useful when yiu have an older car without some of these safety features. With hard wired installation from Halfords, the parking video system records movement to further protect your car.Overall a good unit to have. Discrete and functional.

I have bought many cheaper, no brand dashcams before I have found this little gem. I have a Mini, and for this reason the size matter to me, as the windshield is extremely small. This Garmin dashcam fits perfectly behind the rear view mirror and doesn’t create any blind spot. However to enjoy all the extras I will need to move out a bit, as it has a very good collision alert system, speed camera warning, speed alerts. So many extras in such a tiny camera and the resolution is extraordinary. It connects easily to my iPhone, and I can download any required footage immediately. And the “travelapse” function is so cool, you can re-watch your journey in a time lapse video.10/10Highly recommended!

Garmin 56 dash cam
25 December 2019

Looking for another dash cam to fit on my car as a previous garmin dash cam 55 was purchased over a year ago for my daughters carAs the 55 was upto the job, working and still functioning as it should (perfectly). So I was committed to buying the same and the bonus of the 55 had been upgraded to the 56.So far so good with the added benefit of the new garmin app to down load photos and video via its local WiFi ( no removal of the memory card).Halfords offers two years warranty and a very competitive price. The 56 as the 55 has speed cameras, lane and collision warnings, what a fantastic little device for do little money. I recommend both Halfords and this product.

Garmin 56W Dash Cam, small & discreet
12 June 2021

I bought this dash cam after reading quite a few reviews. I wanted a small camera to put in my classic 1965 Beetle, something that wouldn't stand out, yet would do the job.The camera is very easy to setup and can be used either by a cigarette lighter socket or hardwired with a separate install kit.The features of the camera are everything you need, with a good quality display and clear recorded footage. The camera has alerts which you can use the volume button to have high or low.The only negative from a personal point of view is I would have liked a constant GPS speed display.Oh and you can link 4 Garmin cameras and use the Garmin Drive app to join all your footage. All in all in the short time I have had the camera I really like it. Very tiny camera with good video quality. Need to stick the included magnet onto the windscreen so have to choose your camera position carefully. Once the magnet is on the windscreen, the camera is super easy to attach to the windscreen. Can choose which overlay on the video: location, speed, date/time.

Great Camera
15 December 2019

I bought this a few weeks ago and had it installed. Can't fault the camera. However halfords installed it behind the rear view mirror on passenger side so it's hidden from driver. When I pointed out it had speed camera alerts he couldnt be bothered to move it and said it could be a distraction on drivers side. What's the point in having the alerts if you cant see them. I didnt ask to move to middle of window in front of driver view just the driver side of rear view mirror. So I had to do it myself, the cable he installed as not long enough so had to buy an extension cable. Disappointing to say the least.

Great hardware let down by bad software support
29 May 2021

My initial purchase lasted 15 minutes, when it proposed to update firmware through the mobile app, which then failed and dash cam was stuck in perpetual restart loop. Great JBHifi support providing me with a replacement. Then updated through the Garmin Express desktop app (on Mac), which went fine. Bought the extra polariser filter from their website, which seems to take forever to get an update on.Bought the Cyclops Safety Camera software option though the desktop app. Garmin's happy to take my money, but it won't activate (trying for several days). And support is minimal, haven't been able to reach them yet. Had expected more from an established brand like Garmin. This is just disappointing. Great quality dash cam

I recently bought this to replace an existing dash cam that all of a sudden gave up the ghost in my motorhome.I wanted one with an adhesive mount instead of the suction cup and was small enough to not be too intrusive in the windscreen and this is perfect.Initial set up couldn`t have been easier through Garmin Express which i already had for theGarmin sat nav also in the motorhome.Very impressed with it so far with crystal clear video which along with the date and time also shows the co-ordinates and speed which will provide all the evidence needed in the event of an accident. The safety camera and speed warning features are very annoying however they are easy to turn off in the settings. You also have to buy a seperate SDXC card for it which i think ... MoreI recently bought this to replace an existing dash cam that all of a sudden gave up the ghost in my motorhome.I wanted one with an adhesive mount instead of the suction cup and was small enough to not be too intrusive in the windscreen and this is perfect.Initial set up couldn`t have been easier through Garmin Express which i already had for theGarmin sat nav also in the motorhome.Very impressed with it so far with crystal clear video which along with the date and time also shows the co-ordinates and speed which will provide all the evidence needed in the event of an accident. The safety camera and speed warning features are very annoying however they are easy to turn off in the settings. You also have to buy a seperate SDXC card for it which i think should be included for theprice.

Not overly impressed
15 September 2020

Had this fitted at my local Halfords. Initially seemed OK but today it didn’t record GPS data.Tried again and GPS recorded. Bit hit and miss and may be a fault. My biggest gripe is the lack of control. You can’t determine the length of video (1 minute default) so a long journey produces many videos eg, a two hour journey will produce 120 short videos. You can’t change the exposure so a lens filter produces quite dark videos, difficult to view when recorded at night. For the price its pretty poor and there are a lot of cheaper cameras that are as good if not better.
