Avoid. I took a gamble on buying a newer release model before the bugs were worked out. It's got bugs. Major ones. I'm not a tech guy or a 'cammer'. I just want it to be there if something happens. It happened this morning, and this hunk of worthless plastic was frozen. Not obviously frozen...the red light was on, the unit was slightly warm to the touch, but when I had to stand on the brakes and jerk the car left to avoid an accident...nothing. So I gave it the voice command 'ok garmin' to at least manually save the video, nothing. When I got to work, I tried to connect the drive app. Nothing. Turn off your wifi to re-establish connection, nothing. turn off your blue tooth to re-establish connection, nothing. Those were the commands in the app. I kept the ... MoreAvoid. Unit is taking commands again like it is supposed to, but, when will it freeze again? Do I really have to F with this thing daily to trust it. Nah, I'll pass. Ok Garmin, delete your existence in my car.I payed more for a brand name because I trusted this would be a decent product. It's not.

Good and efficient camera function. Good quality video for what it is supposed to be. TERRIBLE interface. Usually it's impossible to see the videos with the app. I take the card out when I need to extract an incident, and read it with my laptop or phone through card reader. Also, I usually cant connect to update it.

I purchased this several months ago. Initially I was able to view through it's individual wifi. It now disconnects almost immediately after the connection is established. My AT-4 also has wifi. Maybe Bluetooth connection would be better if video is supported. There have been no updates on the firmware or software. I have failed to contact support. I am reluctant to find another company with poor customer service.
This is the 5th Garmin dash camera I have fitted across 4 cars in our household. The very small form factor of these cameras is attractive and makes placing them discretely up near the rear view mirror and out of the driver's line of sight a breeze. Of course with the tandem, you can't really hide it away since the rear facing lens needs a direct line of sight to the passengers but I was able to place it down low on the windscreen and still get an expansive field of view inside the car. I cringe when I see people slap cameras right in the middle of their windscreen but its not necessary with a very compact camera like this. I cringe when I see people slap cameras right in the middle of their windscreen but its not necessary with a very compact camera like this. All of Garmin's cameras impress me with the high image resolution and handling of high dynamic range and low level lighting. This camera is rated to a very high ambient temperature and I have not had a Garmin camera fail due to heat, unlike two other cameras from premium manufacturers which both died within 12 months. If you park your car outdoors in the Aussie summer, you will appreciate this rating. My only gripe which applies to all Garmin cameras, not just the tandem, is the glitchy "Garmin Drive" phone application. It's painful to set up and will frequently deliver "unable to connect" messages despite following the instructions to the letter. Even after is is set up correctly, it is still unreliable to connect to and takes a very long time to bring up a live stream or playback a saved image file. If you've got something important to review I think you are better off pulling out the micro-SD card and plugging it directly into your PC or laptop. Overall, a great camera. A pity about the supporting software but it won't stop the camera doing what it needs to do. PS. Shipping from JA-GPS was lightning fast. Next day delivery in Brisbane!
...I think I like the 66W better. The Tandem does work great, but the only way to control it is by using the Drive app on my iPhone which seems to take forever to make a combined video of the front and rear cameras. Too long to be practical really, they should have an app you can run on your Mac to do that job offline. Not sitting in the car waiting for it to process on my iPhone 12 Pro Max for 5 minutes.I miss the red light camera warnings the 66W has. And I didn't realize it didn't have the Travelapse feature the 66W has. Also, and its not a problem of the Garmin, but the Dashcam software I use on the mac doesn't recognize the file format of the front and rear cameras so I have to manually rename them to get it to work correctly. Really easy to to set up, the camera is brilliant with HD to the front and excellent day time quality at 720 inside, night time footage is OK.The camera is incredibly small and the magnetic holder that sticks to the screen is an excellent solution. The app is a little slow to load and view footage but changing the camera settings from this is very good.Once connected to your computer with the included cable is excellent!, you can view both inside and outside footage next to one another once you change the thumb nail settings....overall excellent dash cam...yes a little pricy but on balance worth the cost.
Once you plug it in, the device takes several minutes to start recording, if it starts recording at all. It lacks an on/off power button, so plugging it in is the only way to turn it on and unplugging it the only way to turn it off. About 40% of the time, after plugging it in, the device fails to turn on at all. It sometimes abruptly turns off, or experiences an error, evident by the flashing light. I have experienced this consistently across multiple vehicles, using the cord and USB-to-12 volt adapter supplied in the box and a brand name SanDisk 256 MB memory card. These two features (always delayed in recording upon power up and frequent failure to turn on at all) are atrocious and are more what I'd expect from a generic, not a supposed industry leader like ... These two features (always delayed in recording upon power up and frequent failure to turn on at all) are atrocious and are more what I'd expect from a generic, not a supposed industry leader like Garmin. By comparison, their earlier model, the Dash Cam 20, could record while unplugged since it had a battery, had a power button, and started recording immediately upon power on. I don't know what went wrong with the Dash Cam Tandem development team. Also, I use the factory suction cup to mount it in order for would-be-thieves to not know I have it. The suction cup frequently dislodges; I use a hair elastic to prevent the camera from smashing onto the console below. This often triggers the crash sensor, auto-saving videos I didn't request to be saved. My microSD card is littered with videos saved this way, and knowing what was saved as a result of the suction cup dislodging versus what I actually manually saved is extraordinarily difficult. The app malfunctions, and the only good way to review the video is to transfer the files to a computer.I don't know how Garmin sells this for $300 with how unreliable it is that it'll actually be recording when you need it.
I've had the Garmin Tandem dash cam for about a month. After a disconcerting event where it seemed there was a deliberate attempt by a semi truck to run me off the road, I decided I needed a dash cam. I think that to document any incidents well a wide view is needed, both looking ahead through the windshield and through the side windows, hence my choice of the Garmin Tandem cam. Looking forward, the 180 degree view is able to catch all activity looking forward and off to the front sides. So, it is able to catch all activity as it develops, not just what occurs directly in front. The rear-facing camera which looks into the cabin also provides very good views out the driver side and passenger side windows, so an incident coming from the side is also well recorded. ... Even though the rear-facing camera is 720 p, I find the resolution to be very good for that purpose. The Garmin Tandem camera provides excellent coverage from the front and to the sides. The wide-angle view means that some fine detail is lost. Reading license plate numbers is difficult unless the vehicle is very close, for instance. For that, a narrower view and higher resolution camera would be needed. I like the compact size of the cam. I have mine mounted in the center of the windshield for the best views front and back, and I used a Garmin suction mount to try different locations for a while until I found the best spot. Voice control works well and is reliable. The Garmin Drive app works well but can be a bit glitchy at times, but it works reliably enough. Downloading videos to my phone is a very slow process, so if I had to show a video to police on site, it would not be quick or easy, and I do not always have my phone with me. That is one of the issues with a cam that doesn't have a display. I would also like to see Garmin provide a desktop app that could easily read the memory card and create a video. Once I had my location, I used the adhesive mount. I really like that the cam is magnetically attached to the adhesive-held base, making it easy to remove the cam at will. Views through the back window from the interior cam isn't very good due to the wide-angle view, but it is not intended for that. I mounted a Garmin Mini 2 to the back window. I am powering the cam through the Garmin OBD-II connector, which unfortunately does not allow the Tandem to operate in parking mode. I would like to see Garmin change that. Overall, I am happy with the cam. It would be perfect if videos were easier to manage, if it was easier to read license plates, and if parking mode worked with the OBD-II port. I installed a 256 gb memory card to replace the 8 gb memory card provided with the cam.
The unit is Garmin, so it one of the best, it was easy to instal and it was very easy to program and link to my phone. With the addition of the hard wiring kit, it now operates a sleep mode and detects movement when the car is off, so it protects my car at all times. We purchased 4 of these cameras for our work vehicles to also allow us to see how the drivers drive, monitor the inside of the vehicles with passenger and in the even of an accident, allowing me a record of the 360 degree view the camera possesses to prove guilt or innocence of our drivers. I would recommend these units to anyone looking for that third eye to help them in their business if they operate vehicles with Drivers.
