Words cannot express on how much better and improved this Drivesmart 55 EX is over my older Nuvi 52LM. I still haven't figured out all the features it offers since I've only used it for 2 weeks. Right out of the box, I did the latest updates while charging it up then put it on my calendar to update it yearly to keep the free updates for lifetime. Way more features and it picks up the Satellites so much quicker along with my vehicle positioning. I still haven't utilized the APP. All it time. The only Con that I've came up with is the battery life should be better. Full charge gives me just shy of 1 hour of usage. Not a deal breaker especially with Walmart's special pricing of $99 that popped up. Well worth it at that price. I'm glad I purchased it.

It took 50 minutes to go that 10 miles, and the only worker I saw surely did not put up all of those concrete barriers for 10 miles overnight. This should have been known about, and an alternative given!

Like anything new it takes time to get used to it,One shortcoming is that it has an old USB port vs. the new USB C connection. There is, however, an adapter included for those with the 12v (old cigarette lighter) receptacle.On the positive side there are lots of alerts (speed limits, speed limit changes, red light cameras, etc.) and a fairly large display.I am currently on a 10 day holiday and find that this purchase more than covers the cost of having a GPS on a rental car, plus I still have it to use on the older of our two vehicles.Overall I would rate this item as a good value for the money.

I bought the device in January and it worked well and was superb unfortunately it started indicating can't find location and stopped pairing with Garmin Drive app on my phone. I tried Garmin support they were too slow to respond, sometimes email a week asking basic questions and went to Best Buy and was adviced to get a replacement as they don't troubleshoot. The new replacement also didn't work, and I returned it for troubleshooting and I was told I will be charged 40 dollars to check it, yet it is not my fault. I opted to return it and upgrade to Garmin drivesmart 66 and it was like magic it just connected with Garmin Drive instantly. My take is that Garmin Drive App updated their software which did not work with Garmin Drivesmart 55.

Very pleased with good service I had with Garmin after small issue when setting up the "Drive" application Only 4 stars as found mounting is a bit flimsy and feel it will soon fail and while screen size is almost as big, find the very small writing that is not possible to enlarge (Is 7in Screen better? but this is much more expensive.) The Speed camera alerts are just a couple of bleeps and again quite small red banner so easy to miss. TomTom has choice of sounds and volume so much better. Like being able to fully specify route plan and then store it under its own name, best to do this at home but noticed the battery life is then quite short. As a GPS it is as good as our old, similar unit.The traffic functionality is however, more of a flaw than a feature.Terribly intrusive in many different ways. Very full of itself as one may say. Always binging away with some warning or message or new news. Wasting screen real estate with its constant messaging/whining.Very annoying.
I havent had it long enough to have used all its features in different driving locations and conditions so I wont speak to those, but my one big complaint is that the voice command feature is essentially useless. It works fine until I say the address and then it becomes hard of hearing and comes back with addresses that arent even close to what I said. Ive tried speaking more slowly, softly, loudly, and in a normal conversational tone but nothing works. If you cant live without the voice command feature, this unit is not for you.
The garmin drive smart takes ages to find my route. Once I start my drive, if I miss a turning, it does not recalculate quick enough. I use this along side my phone.When driving on the A6, it loses signal then starts directing me on street roads that are nowhere near where I am driving.Its too slow on round abouts, does not tell you in time when to exit the round about. Doesn't tell you early enough when to exit the motorway so you can get in the correct lane in good time.Maybe a brand new garmin might be OK, but this secondhand one was trash.I also tried to download the update, but it kept failing. I would not recommend this company. They sent out a product which either wasn't tested, or knowingly faulty.
I go on lots of road trips around the country and as you know cellphone signal isn't the greatest between states. I wasn't expecting much as my lasp GPS was in 2010. But honestly they have improved these things significantly. You can add your phone to it, use it as Bluetooth to take calls, it has voice command, and you can control it with your phone. I see people buying android apple play stereo addition for their older cars, but I would personally prefer this. The GPS is quick and it loads fast, not like the old days. Great product overall.
bought this GPS as was going down to tasmania and don't have unlimited phone data. updated it and had it completely set up before travelling down there.once down there all hell broke loose.told me to do 60kmp/h on 110kmp/h roads, told me to turn right at a round about in the middle of a highway that has never nor will ever have a roundabout, told me to do u-turns into the ocean or into solid concrete walls, it got me lost more times than i would have been just following road signs and thats dangerous in winter in tasmania.i wished i could give this 0 stars. hopefully they give me a refund for it.
