Great unit and even greater price but buyers beware!! Unit only has Worldwide DEM Basemap NR downloaded!! Totally worthless for day hiking, backpacking or camping navigation. Garmin yearly TOPO map subscription is $99 to download which erodes any savings found here!! In hindsight I would have be wiser to ignore this value and order a new full price model! Just sayin!!!

This Gps is so inaccurate it is not worth10 cents. At my home it has me living on the other side of the road. At my favorite fishing hole it has me way up in the bush.I've used GPS's for 20 years and by far the most inaccurate one by far.

Nicely made and somewhat easy to use, it takes a few minutes to get around to understand the many features avail. there are 1000's of geocaches pre loaded on it from factory. My only beef is the topoactive maps, this is deceiving because they are just a very basic road map, not even small roads appear on the gps just highways and main big secondary roads. You have buy extra maps to make this gps more useful for any hiking or biking or most things you want to use it for. it does not compare to a cheap vehicle gps. I ordered the real TOPO maps from different store, canadian tire does not sell them anymore, and hopefully this will make it as good as my 15 years old Magellan explorist 500, LOL.... Try to buy in on sale to get the best bank for the buck. They are ... I think it’s ok. Was hoping it would have a option to go in a straight line from point a to point b and tell you if you were off track but didn’t find it yet. Just using the latitude numbers for now
Found it easy to use but topography detail is very low ,high cost to get maps for full potential
I've been using a GPS for over 3 years. Unfortunately I lost my beloved GPS (Garmin etrex 20) and so decided to get this model on sale.I found the touch screen to be a nice feature but the system was not user friendly and learning to use this gps would be more of a learning curve than I was looking for. (It lists geocaches by their GC code, not the name, which I found frustrating.)I returned the unit and will probably repurchase another etrex 20.
Used for approx. 2 years now for bikepacking with accessory bike mount. Included base maps have very limited detail; currently I'm using Back Roads MapBook SD card to obtain adequate maps.Works well, but touch screen is frustrating at times; often requires removing gloves to operate, and at times will not respond in temperature extremes (greater than +28c, colder than -5C); given that alone, I would have opted for the older extrex 20 with the toggle switch operation. Otherwise unit works as intended. Download appropriate maps for your application, or appropriate SD card.
Screen is clear in low light and direct sunlight. Nice and compact easy to use. You can load topographical maps with a SD card.
The quick guide is useless for someone not familiar with smartphones etc. Could not find grid references and on line guide does not mention them. Only used it once so far but waiting to upload os map onto it, it should be better. Overall pleased how lightweight it is compared to old garmin64s which I lost. Doesnt show overall mileage walked as I use os map mainly.
purchased this garmin eTREX 25 touch for geocaching, very pleased with it's performance, ease of use, battery life etc. A great product @ a great price, we have owned several GPS units and this one works every bit as well as our Oregon 600 or our 62sc
