It works great on outdoor runs and it’s actually pretty accurate on my treadmill, the instinct was usually not in sync with my treadmill. The workout tracking is good for weight training. I like the watch faces but I’d prefer a few more options. It’s comfortable but it doesn’t track my heart rate as well as the instinct. I have tattoos and I know they create an issue. The reason I switched from Apple Watch to Garmin was because of that. The Garmin still tracks my runs while the Apple Watch would pause constantly. I’ve had this watch for about a month now and it’s been everything I wanted. Previously I had the Instinct Solar, and it just wasn’t quite what I was going for. As a cyclist that also owns an Edge 530 and the Rally XC100 pedals, I wanted a system that all worked together. With the Forerunner 255 that has all become a reality. All of my data from the different devices all feed into the Connect app and blend with the Physio TrueUp system. I get in depth metrics on everything from my sleep, Pulse Ox, and respiration. Training has become much more productive with being able to track my recovery. And the lifestyle features are great too including Garmin Pay so I don’t even need to bring a wallet on a ride. Time will tell what the battery lifespan will be, but in the ... MoreI’ve had this watch for about a month now and it’s been everything I wanted. I received the Garmin Forerunner 255S as a birthday gift, and I honestly almost returned it the same day. The setup was not intuitive, and I could not get it to work without a lengthy Support session. No real instructions are included, and the online instructions were not easy to find and then once I did, were not always right.I also found the number of apps required to support the watch baffling. Why can't it all be managed through a single app?So why the 4 star review? Because now that I have it set up, it's awesome! I can easily download music to my watch and go for runs without my bulky phone. The built in adaptive training is very cool, and the Training analysis will help me up my game.

I am 63 and run to improve health, loose weight, and train for my local 5K. The Forerunner 255 has been a game changer for me. I can't stop looking at all the great data on my health, training, and sleep that Garmin Connect provides. It took me a week before I figured out all the features. Sometimes I will accidently hit one of the buttons and have no idea what I am looking at on the watch face. The sharp clear and colorful eye popping graphics shown in the Garmin ad for the watch are misleading. You just don't get that vividness that the ad shows. The backlighting is just ok. Band is very comfortable. The morning weather report is so small I can't see it without reading glasses when I wake up so it is basically worthless to me. Band is very comfortable. The morning weather report is so small I can't see it without reading glasses when I wake up so it is basically worthless to me. I use my phone for the weather report anyway so this is a silly redundant feature. The data gathering and feedback from Garmin Connect is the real value with these devices. You will need your smartphone or desktop to view all the rich data. Just use the watch to gather your data and use the Connect app to view the data. The watch does provide good feedback using vibration, and sound alerts to keep you in your training zones while running. The pace speedometer has a tiny line that is hard to see while running. It needs a bigger arrow to show your pace in\out of zone. Connecting to MyFitnessPal has helped greatly in monitoring my calories in\out and keeping my diet and weight loss plan on track.
I returned to running last Winter and in the middle of half marathon training, decided to upgrade to the 255s from my old Forerunner 15. All the additional features are a real treat, and it really helps integrate running (or walking, cycling, etc.) into your daily life. I also used it to replace my Fitbit. I was unsure of using the 255s as my all the time watch, but it's so fun to see the stats that I immediately was sold. I'm a 5'2" female and the size is perfect. My only complaint is the color. I got the pink one, which looks like a rose color in the photos, but it's actually bubblegum pink. I know it's a little thing, but I think I would have got a neutral had I known the accurate color. There are alternate bands you can purchase (including a rose colored one), ... MoreI returned to running last Winter and in the middle of half marathon training, decided to upgrade to the 255s from my old Forerunner 15. I bought this to replace my Forerunner 645 music so I could have the Pulse Ox and HRV features. I'm a small person so the "s" models look better on my wrist. While Garmin is the best fitness watch for my needs other than the Apple watch (I don't use Apple products), I don't find them very intuitive and user-friendly for finding features and changing settings. It's a decent fitness smartwatch for people who run and do other exercises like Crossfit and gym workouts with multiple differing repeat intervals. It would be nice if there were a way to program multiple types of exercises specifically, such as intervals of running and weightlifting, rather than having to use the "Other" option that only has "Go".I don't like that some features can only be customized on the ... MoreI bought this to replace my Forerunner 645 music so I could have the Pulse Ox and HRV features. Overall, I would say Garmin watches work for what I need and could be improved.
Upgraded from the 245 recently for the new tech. I like the new features like training load, wake up screen, and HRV. I absolutely love the new color options, and the battery life is a huge improvement over the 245. There are more activity options with the 255 and on-screen instructions for yoga/strength/HIIT workouts. However, there are some things that keep me from giving them more stars. The buttons are very sticky. My lower left button has been sticky since a few weeks into owning the watch, and when I requested a return and got a new watch, the exact same issue cropped up on the new device. And I lost all my historical HRV data when I switched watches, meaning I had to wait another three weeks for that data to process again. Sleep tracking is still pretty bad on this week (kind of a Garmin watch issue in general rather than this watch in particular) so I pretty much ignore the sleep data besides general hours slept. Lastly, I am still having some pretty significant issues with GPS, Livetrack taking forever to load, and activities taking a long time to upload to the Connect app. Not a bad watch by any means, but I was hoping for more from Garmin for a new entry in the Forerunner series, especially at the price it's listed. I think the 245 or 55 may still be better investments at the moment until there are some bug fixes and the button issue is resolved.
Upgrading from a sometimes twitchy 235 that served me well for many years, I am enjoying the size and challenged by the status and workout evaluations. Today I received the rating of "overreaching" which is slightly more encouraging than "unproductive". Honey every time I go out and get my sweat on it's productive. Being able to reply to texts and calls from my watch is even better because I can put in the message I want, like "OMWH" or "Nope!". I was surprised by the charging port and immediately ordered little silicone plugs which remedied that ugly possible problem. Still learning to use the features, but I do recommend this watch. One complaint, Garmin, seriously the color selection of pink and gray was a little odd. Do you really sell that many pink watches? ... MoreUpgrading from a sometimes twitchy 235 that served me well for many years, I am enjoying the size and challenged by the status and workout evaluations. I have used my Forerunner 230 for 7 years, and had issues with the belt and module so finally decided in February to upgrade to the 255. It's a bit pricey, and I added the chest strap update as well (one can use this as a wrist based HR, but I'm not a fan or a believer in it's accuracy) to bring the total just north of $500. So I need this to last a long time. The instructions from Garmin aren't always intuitive and I started using it before fully reading the manual (not the wisest move) but I was able to get a few runs in, and some rowing w/o's as well to get comfortable with it. The ability to get advanced running metrics is very helpful, even if it told me I'm not great at Ground Contact Time or staying 50/50 between my left and right feet. The ability to get advanced running metrics is very helpful, even if it told me I'm not great at Ground Contact Time or staying 50/50 between my left and right feet. I also appreciate all the different activity profiles including indoor rowing, indoor bike, weight lifting, skiing, treadmill and many others.Once I read the instruction manual and formulated some questions (which Garmin did a marvelous job of fielding) I felt I was ready to take off my training wheels and use this as my main sports watch. It probably took me 3 weeks from delivery to truly being comfortable with it, but it was worth it.It gives me great insight on my sleeping, stress levels, health status and many other options in the "glances" view. It's worth investing the time to learn what works for you. I've even hit 100 on my morning body battery metric, which was nice. The watch also learns. The first few weeks it thought I was going too hard, and kept asking me to take days off (I rarely do, and balance things between hard/somewhat hard and easy days), until it finally learned and now took my performance analysis from overtraining to productive. That is a very positive development.I'm very glad I purchased this. I still have my 230 as a backup, but now probably won't use it very often, if at all.
I bought the model Forerunner 255s around 3 months ago. The watch is lighter and smaller than the corresponding 255 model, thus it is very agreeable to wear as a woman. The numerous fitness and health features enabled me to learn more about my health in general and the impact of the exercises to my fitness level. Some features are missing, but here are my workarounds:1) rowing machine: there is no interface yet to my rowing machine model, but I found out that I can still measure the exercise by the function “indoor-rowing”2) swimming in pool: in my place the swimming pools have different lengths, you can use the function “swimming pool” and later in the app change the distance of the pool length or use the function “Freiwasser” (open waters?) and the length of ... MoreI bought the model Forerunner 255s around 3 months ago. The cable I received was USB. Maybe change the standard?2) Swimming pool function: maybe enable to select the pool distance before starting the exercise?3) Create an interface between Garmin and Smart Row App from Water Rower.
