I've owned many Garmin watches: 305, 110, 230, 935, 745 and now the FR265. Obviously technology typically progresses, but this one has exceeded my expectations. Main improvements over the FR745 and FR935 are: 1) GPS accuracy and speed to acquire, 2) HR accuracy during activities, and 3) Sleep and stress tracking. The GPS is lightening fast, and uber-accurate. I rarely wear my HRM Pro during runs now, as the wrist-based HRM FINALLY gives me accurate and close to real-time readings as the chest strap. Sleep tracking was solid on the 745, but I feel the 265 is picking up even more nuance and detail. My primary reason for upgrading was the AMOLED screen, which is simply amazing. Love the display. Light years beyond my 235. And the multi-band GPS gives me much more accurate reads on my runs. Despite the ability to put the display "to sleep", this is misleading in that it's NOT asleep, it's just dim. You can make it 3 levels of brightness, but CAN'T make it turn all the way off when you're asleep with an option to check the time with a button press. As a result, watch sometimes wakes me up when it turns on when I'm sleeping. Garmin really should have had a "full off" display. Would also have been nice to be able to start an exercise session and then switch to the main display or something else, rather than be stuck on the exercise session with no option to go elsewhere. I really like the watch, but wish it could have done more (e.g., still jealous of my wife's Apple watch and the ability to be tethered to her phone via Bluetooth and receive calls and talk to her watch to continue the call. That's the tech Garmin should have.) Garmin is good at what they do, but Apple still has the lead for true tech innovation. Dick Tracy predicted we'd get here--too bad Apple caught up and Garmin is still behind.

I’m an old Garmin addict from over a decade ago when my brother-in-law introduced me to the Forerunner 405. A “watch” in theory but not a device you would want to wear for anything else. The form factor was clunky, the battery terrible, the operating system primitive and frustrating, the GPS not overly impressive. But all that cool data… hooked instantly. Since, there has been a long progression of many devices, often just iterations of their predecessors, but just enough to tweak interest and make me willing to lay down the big bucks. Fenix II, Fenix 3, Fenix 3HR, Fenix 5X and then 5P, the 6 Pro and my current workhorse, the Epix2 (now “Gen 2”). There were various Forerunners along the way, bike computers, and lifestyle models for my wife (to ease my guilt). I have no need for the 275. I bought one anyway. It’s a beautiful device… the Amoled screen is stunning… beautiful colors and animations running in a smooth, sophisticated, intuitive and impressive user interface. Lightweight, appealing style, sweet band. Yes, I mourn for the premature demise of my Epix2, but oh look at that Forerunner’s screen. Pictures don’t do it justice. This is the One. At least until the 965 comes out.

I've had this watch for a month now and use it every day. I've had various Garmin watches for over 10 years. My latest was a Vivoactive 3 which finally died.Set up issue: My 265S default watch language came in Cyrillic, which is a language I unfortunately don't understand. It took some major guess work to get it changed into English. I used Garmin Connect and found the language change mode I needed there.Love the accuracy and data it provides. What I find challenging is trying to find a workout for the day. It is not an easy find. Then during the workout trying to figure out if I need to push the lap button or if it will automatically move to the next workout step is not intuitive, especially in the middle of a run when I am out of breath! Then during the workout trying to figure out if I need to push the lap button or if it will automatically move to the next workout step is not intuitive, especially in the middle of a run when I am out of breath! A preview of the workout before you go run, is essential. If all you are going to do is push "run" and then go run, it works like a dream.I find that the preset viewing options with some minor customization is all that I need.Yes, I would recommend this watch to anyone who is a casual to intermediate runner. I would have given it 5 stars except for the two issues I noted above.
This is my first "smart watch" and to be sure I was sceptical that I either needed or wanted one. In the past I had a "fitness tracker" from a different manufacturer that annoyed the crap out of me buzzing every hour to tell me I wasn't moving around enough. Also would have had to buy a $ub$cription to get more than just basic information out of it. Got to hate that thing. This is not that. The Forerunner 265 (and companion Connect app) tells me everything I need to know - at no additional charge - and doesn't pester me in the process. After a day or two playing around with it I have it set up exactly how I want it for running, bicycling and hiking. It has built in compass, music, and a messaging connection with my phone that I didn't know I wanted but now wonder ... MoreThis is my first "smart watch" and to be sure I was sceptical that I either needed or wanted one. It has built in compass, music, and a messaging connection with my phone that I didn't know I wanted but now wonder how I lived without. One note to folks that wonder if the large or small version is the one they want... get the large one if you can. It's very comfortable and you will be glad you have the extra real estate for info. I was worried it was going to look too big on my wrist but that turned out to be a complete non-issue.Final note; the display is awesome. No problem seeing it no matter what the ambient light. This is a no nonsense watch for active people that want to know more than just how many steps they have taken in a day. If that's you get one - you will be glad you did!
I swapped from an Apple Watch (series 3) to the Garmin Forerunner 265s and have been happy with the change. I love the advanced features and tracking on this watch and it has definitely improved my running schedule/performance. I enjoy the recommended daily workouts and tend to follow them (with an occasional extra rest day) and I’ve felt strong, productive and injury free while training. It is definitely an adjustment going from Apple to Garmin, but within a week I was pretty comfortable with the software and operating the watch without any trouble. The battery life is amazing (compared to my old watch), and I love being able to use my sleep features without worrying about charging the next day. My one “complaint” is that the black watch in the “s” size comes with bright yellow accents. I bought an $8 replacement band on Amazon (pictured) and it looks more discrete during my non-training hours. The only thing I miss about my other watch is being able to ~like~ or respond/acknowledge text messages, especially mid workout. Would recommend if you are looking for training readiness insight and coaching right from your wrist :).
I've had it for a couple months and I love it. The watch the records the data well, and the app displays it beatuifully. I hate taking it off as I momentarily miss that sweet sweet data. Only issues I've had is the HR is spotty when my watch is on my tattooed arm especially during exercise. The sensor is half facing tattoo and half not, so I get why It can go in and out especially with movement. Photos attached. If you plan on wearing it on a tattooed arm, this might be something to consider. It is probably an issue with all light based HR readers, so I don't fault Garmin. I switch the watch to my non-tattooed other side for runs and workouts and it works reliably.Other item to be aware of is the screen scratches very easily, so I'd recommend a protector.Even ... MoreI've had it for a couple months and I love it. Really like the watch. Huge step up from my 235. Bright display really pops, in sunshine or shade. Even with polarized glasses, screen is easy to see. Battery lasts for days more than my 235, even with nearly identical GPS use. It's great that the watch has an option for an on-demand face that's blacked out to save battery life unless you deliberately turn your wrist toward your face. The only real drawback I've encountered is that the watch's "sleep mode", which makes the display dim even if accidentally activated while sleeping, doesn't allow you to turn off the display completely and reactivate it with a deliberate button push to check the time if you need to. Instead, the watch behaves the same all the time, even during user-defined sleep hours, except that you ... MoreReally like the watch. Huge step up from my 235. However, if you are a light-sensitive sleeper, even the "dim" mode can wake you when the watch is accidentally activated by rolling over or moving your arm. Watch would be so much better if the option of "truly off until requested" existed. Hopefully, Garmin can fix this with a simple Connect update. If that feature were currently incorporated, I'd go for a 5 stars as this is otherwise an incredible watch.
I've been an avid fitbit user for a decade. But lately every 2yrs on the dot they seem to die. It's past the warranty(which is now only 12 months instead of 24), extra annoying! Links up to my fitness apps and marathons so easy. The ONLY reason I took off a star was that you can only use My fitness pal for the food. And I just can't with them. Their search is absolutely atrocious, and I was using scan to get by. And that's no longer available as a free option. I personally use Chronometer as even free it lists your macros AND micros, scanning barcodes is free, and it's search is very ... MoreI've been an avid fitbit user for a decade. I bought this mainly for its offline Spotify and HRV abilities, as well as the pedometer. I don't run, but I do ruck and was looking forward to tracking metrics for that.Strike # 1. You need to download 3 apps to use this. 1 on your computer and 2 on your phone. This is ridiculous in this tech age.
