Been using this watch as a multi-sport athlete for a couple months now. I upgraded from the Garmin Instinct, which was a good watch too and did the basics for everything.I decided to upgrade to this 955 solar to assist in diving a lot deeper into training and metrics and it provides that tenfold. I also purchased the HR-Pro heart rate monitor, also a great compliment tool for training. One complaint I have is the lack of upload from a pool session which perplexed me. I notice the 955 drops BT connection during swim sessions, which makes some sense, but then doesnt connect back when the session is over it appears. So, when the pool session is “complete” the upload seems to be stuck in limbo and is never uploaded. A work around for this is to connect the USB cable to your PC and then pull the file over from the watch folder to Garmin Connect and then the session is uploaded. So, its clear there is a bug there for pool sessions and this series of watch. What I do now, before I finalize a pool session is go to bluetooth and manually reconnect the watch and then “save” the session, so far, zero problems doing this method. But onwards about the watch features are great, of course the “training readiness” is a little dramatic in my opinion. I was knee deep in training when I bought the watch and ever since its told me I am supposed to rest for 2-3-4 days to be “effective”…..yeah, nah, I can’t do that. But I suppose it’ll work itself out over the next few month to a year to learn “me” and how “ready” I can be.Touch screen is really legit, works as it should and I like it from a quick switch through screens while active in a training session. Not entirely sold on the solar function. Seems like it helps keep some battery life I suppose a little longer than others. But my instinct didnt require as much charging as this watch has already had. But, this watch is pulling a lot more metrics behind the scenes, so it’s draining the battery it seems.Quick insert is the weight is basically nothing and the watch face is a great size. (I read a few concerns about the size and weight and thought I’d end up with a heavy watch. Its not heavy in the slightest to me.)All in all I’m still brand new with the watch and haven't even scratched the surface of all the potential features, but I am happy with the purchase but think I could have saved a little bit of money by just getting the 955 non-solar.

I bought the 955 Solar and used it for a few weeks. I had a 935 previously. I liked some of the new capabilities compared to 935 but didn't find any of them essential. The big issue was battery life. I was getting 5-6 days from 100% to 5% battery. This was much lower than my 935 which consistently got 10-11 days. For context, I was not using GPS and the only activity I was recording was 30 minutes of stationary bike (peleton) every other day due to weather outside. If i had used it for a bike ride or swim with GPS I expect I would have gotten more like 4 days of battery life. Not sure why it was so poor, I used the stock setting that the watch came form. My experience was that battery life is not as advertised in real everyday use and The 735 was a MUCH better watch from build quality to battery life. I would not recommend 935.

I have had and used a lot of Garmin products in the past and I was slightly hesitant to use for this type of application simply because the Garmin user interface can be a little annoying at times. Plus with a product this small I was worried about that potential issue only being magnified. However, I’m happy to say that this is not the case for the 955 Solar. Incredibly easy to use via the app or right on the way watch itself. The setup from everything to making your own workouts, setting alarms and checking your stats is a pretty no brainer. The battery life on this watch (solar one anyway) has surpassed expectations. This watch is always on my wrist and use it for running approximately 4-5 times a week for no less then an hour each time. The price might be a little off setting but once this watch starts giving advisers workouts and seeing positive results from them I would say that it is more then worth it. I highly recommend these watches and buy again. Happy running!

"Upgraded" to a $5 woven nylon band on amazon and it's a great match.- Solar - I like having the option to charge in the sun for longer, multi-day backpacking trips but I don't think it actually makes a significant difference in the day to day normal scenario use.- Not great for notifications/texts - very limited functionality but that's what I knowingly gave up when I moved from an apple watch to a more specialized watch for sports/activities.
I purchased this watch about 3 weeks ago. I selected it over the 965 because I preferred the solar option to the AMOLED screen. I wanted a watch primarily for exercise and health monitoring with excellent battery life. I was replacing a Fitbit Charge 5 which was good for heart rate and sleep monitoring but did a poor job with GPS accuracy. The Fitbit requiring a premium subscription to show me my own data really put me off buying anything else from them. Even with premium, the Fitbit data analysis is pitiful compared to what you get with the Garmin watches. So far the 955 been great. I've only had to charge it once and I wear it almost non-stop. I run about 3 days a week. The GPS connects in under a minute and has great accuracy. I've paired it to my earbuds and can listen to Spotify while I run. You get an incredible amount of data and charts after every activity. The watch keeps track of your sleep, stress, and overall activity and gives recommended exercise. I've found it to be pretty accurate in terms of what it recommends versus how I feel and what I'm able to do.My only negative was I wish it could run the Nike Run Club app like Wear OS watches can. You can pair Garmin watches to the Nike app to have your activities show up there, but you can't do the guided training like you can with the apps. Overall its a minor quibble.

Whether you're a runner, cyclist, swimmer, or triathlete, it provides comprehensive data on heart rate, distance, pace, elevation, and more. The wrist-based heart rate monitor is impressively accurate, and the GPS locks onto satellites quickly. It's like having a personal coach on your wrist.Durability (4.5/5): The Forerunner 955 Solar is built to withstand tough conditions. It's water-resistant, rugged, and the Corning® Gorilla® Glass DX lens protects the display from scratches. However, considering its price, I would have appreciated a slightly more robust build, particularly in the bezel and buttons.Battery Life (5/5): Thanks to the solar charging, the battery life is exceptional. Its solar charging capability, extensive performance tracking, long battery life, and advanced features make it worth the investment. Whether you're training for a marathon, embarking on a multiday hike, or simply want a reliable daily smartwatch, the Forerunner 955 Solar delivers on all fronts. It's become an indispensable part of my fitness journey, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a versatile and high-performance sports watch.
I have been using another brand of fitness tracker (monthly subscription based) for years and had been looking to ditch the cost, but was worried I would miss the metrics. This Garmin product does EVERYTHING and MORE that the other tracker that I was using did WITHOUT the reoccurring cost AND with a much more user friendly interface. Also, I was able to ditch my smartwatch, so no more two devices. My husband purchased one at the same time and we love challenging each other each week...it's great motivation to stay active! I will say that I am still trying to figure out the features of the watch but love that I have onboard music, an interval timer, pace pro, and Bluetooth capabilities that the watch handles wonderfully! It also gives me my heart rate. With all these things running, a 5-mile run only used 13% of the battery. It is a solar watch. I have to say this is great!! I am running a half marathon at the end of February with my niece. She and I both have Apple Watches but mine doesn’t have sufficient battery life to last the entire race. I figured out that if I got the free version of Strava, I could get it to pair with my Nike app on my Apple Watch and after I sync the Garmin with my Watch via Strava, the data also shows up in the Apple Fitness portion of my Apple Watch and my ... MoreI will say that I am still trying to figure out the features of the watch but love that I have onboard music, an interval timer, pace pro, and Bluetooth capabilities that the watch handles wonderfully! First, read all the five star reviews and decide for yourself if they are real, informed, and meaningful. The watch has good battery and conveniently tracks a range of activities with cross platform connectivity. I’m giving one star bc for the money and market share, Garmin should have done a lot better on some key things. As a course navigation device it fails miserably. Too small view, inadequate notification/view control, it is just too wrong too often. Nearly useless on MTB trail tracking, I end using Strava instead. Swim location tracking is mediocre *as long as* the watch is often above the water—you cannot track breast stroke. As a health metric tracker, don’t believe all the hype. Pathetic that you can’t enter your own body fat % unless you buy a Garmin ... MoreFirst, read all the five star reviews and decide for yourself if they are real, informed, and meaningful. The watch has good battery and conveniently tracks a range of activities with cross platform connectivity. I’m giving one star bc for the money and market share, Garmin should have done a lot better on some key things. As a course navigation device it fails miserably. Swim location tracking is mediocre *as long as* the watch is often above the water—you cannot track breast stroke. As a health metric tracker, don’t believe all the hype. Pathetic that you can’t enter your own body fat % unless you buy a Garmin scale. Swim HR tracking is mediocre to poor without additional high end chest strap. These issues are well documented in Garmin forums, but Garmin never responds or addresses them.
Bought December 22 and used a few times before taking a break feom regular workouts. Used for skiing, hunting, regular calisthenics, weights, and triathlon training. Skiing worked great, it kept track of all the runs, speeds, etc. I didn't know how to find the actual resort with names of runs and such even though it was preloaded, but it detected all the vitals and determined when I was going up the lift and where I was. GPS seems very good. The hunting was more "yes/no" text response, step tracking and such. would like to have used the actual tracking/way points etc. but didn’t have time to figure it out. Did use the map/ compass/ altimeter a bit (mostly because it's cool). would be awesome to be able to overlay gis maps when hunting, maybe you can? it somehow ... MoreBought December 22 and used a few times before taking a break feom regular workouts. Did use the map/ compass/ altimeter a bit (mostly because it's cool). would be awesome to be able to overlay gis maps when hunting, maybe you can? it somehow knows how many push-ups I do and is really accurate on lifting reps. treadmill calibration was surprisingly accurate first time but I messed it up somehow (believe i waited too long to push stop and it included some slow down.) I need to redo, I hope I can. Swimming is very good, I like the ability to have countdown start. whether a smooth mile or intervals it works great. had to put exercise bike distance in manually, no big deal. haven't run outside or biked outside yet. I enjoy the morning report, body battery, weather, sleep tracking, etc. have used the on board music and it is very nice to have just ear buds and watch, and not have to worry about a phone and accidental screen touching (since I don't use any music apps, haven't figured out how to lock screen and keep playing on phone) The fit/comfort are great and battery seems unrealistic in how long it lasts and how quick it charges. I only worry about scratches and stuff (possibly put a liquid protector on but haven't decided yet. ) touch response is great, like having buttons also. I will learn more about the training and readiness stuff just haven't had time to check out and get a decent baseline or put specific goals in although I'd like to do a half-Ironman this year or next. I don't have it exposed to the sun much but it does work good holding charge when in the sun. interface with phone is great (android), love the app, easy to use. haven't joined up with strava or others yet. much more could be said and learned by me, so far so good though! great job garmin.
