I've owned a Forerunner 945 for a year and a half and it was on my wrist almost 24/7, all through ironman training and the event. Not a hiccup not a scratch... I saw the 965's new screen and thought It'd be nice to have a smart watch quality display. HRV etc... all the features it claims to have over previous models. One week in and not even an active one, there is a scratch. I'll be the first to be accountable and say I was doing something foolish but I wasn't. In fact I can't even remember doing an activity rough enough to scratch the screen. I haven't even been in the pool... can't imagine what would happen if this scraped the pool edge or smacked a lane line. Well I can... it'd probably scratch.Since I was only a week in, I thought I'd try my chances with ...Ā MoreI've owned a Forerunner 945 for a year and a half and it was on my wrist almost 24/7, all through ironman training and the event. Well I can... it'd probably scratch.Since I was only a week in, I thought I'd try my chances with Garmin support, even though it states in their warranty that they don't cover cosmetic problems. C'mon man, one week? Nope, asked me to pay another $168 to cover the replacement cost. I paid because selling a watch with a scratch would deduct at least that when selling online. I WILL be selling the new watch in an unopened box hoping to find someone who doesn't mind products that scratch by... breathing on them? Look, the screen is brighter than previous models, no doubt... and if you're the type of person who mainly deals in handling marsh mellows, you'll be fine. For athletes that actually do stuff and don't want to have a scratched up mess on their wrists, then go for the old watches and screen material or a different brand all together. IMO, quality like that on a $600 watch that is meant for activity... inexcusable. Hope this helps and I'll be updating other online retailers with the same review. Hopefully save someone from wasting $600.

I was looking to upgrade my watch as my Fitbit Charge 4 had stopped working. I am active and run almost daily and felt like I wasnāt getting all the information from the Fitbit that I wanted. I went back and forth trying to make a decision between the Garmin 955, 255, and Instinct 2 tactical for about a month as I read and watched a ton of reviews. Then I saw the new 265 and 965 on the website and knew that I had waited for a reason. I ordered the 965 with an estimated arrival of 4-6 weeks. Sooo worth the wait!! I love it! I was a little worried about the size, but it hasnāt been an issue during the day, on runs, or while sleeping. Received it on 4/8/23 and charged the battery. I did charge this morning for the first time after working out and driving to work. In 15 minutes, watch was charged back up to 40%. To me thatās outstanding based on how active I am as Iām using it to track runs. I was lucky to get 3 days out of my Fitbit and friends with Apple Watches charge theirs daily. The touchscreen is an awesome feature, super easy to toggle up and down and the watch face is bright . This watch is so amazing, really!! The band is comfy, the running features are fantastic, setup was easy, heart rate monitor is accurate, changing of watch faces is easy⦠I really canāt say enough about how happy I am with my purchase!

Great watch has every metric I would ever need for RUNNING (mainly), swimming and biking. I bought this watch for better comfort than my Enduro 2. It is more comfortable due to smaller size. But because the band is not a wide (I use a nylon band which works best for me, can get an exact fit, slight stretch allows fit tight enough for no movement during runs). AMOLED display is awesome. On average (using GPS run an hour, or plus, nite time O2) battery use average is .75% per hour. I canāt vouch for accuracy (heart rate, heart variable, otherā¦) but because the numbers are VERY consistent, I feel they are accurate. On a recent 5K race the 965 gave me a distance of 3.12 miles (canāt get any better than that). I love that feature.
I had a 735xt. The 965 has been good to great so far. The added features over the 735 take a bit to become familiar with, especially the different interface. The HRV data took longer than the stated one-week period to start showing up as a trend. The data, for me, does not appear to be as useful as average HR during sleep because my HRV does not seem to change much regardless of workload. The suggested workouts seem to be slowly catching up to my capabilities and background. I was coming off a long period of not working out much (but was active) and then jumped right back into long workouts; the 965 kept telling me I am overreaching even though I felt fine. It finally stopped doing that although the suggested workouts are still not up to my fitness level in view of long history of training. I would say that for someone just starting out, the suggested workouts are probably close to what said person should be doing. The VO2 is off, but I don't really care about such data anymore. I really like the larger screen size and resolution. Very easy to read. I still use a Garmin 520 on my bike because has more data and is easier to read while riding. I don't save the ride from the 520 but instead save the ride on the 965. Overall, I am satisfied with the 965. Long term, we will see how it holds up. The 735xt was a bit of a stinker as to durability. Had four replacements I think.
This is a very nice device and I would like to give it 5 stars, but cannot for the reasons listed below in my wish list. My experience with a Fenix 6X Pro before and after adding a glass screen protector leaves me with very little trust in a gorilla glass display that scratches while the screen protector has never scratched.2. The supplied watch band is difficult to remove and will probably never be reinstalled, Quickfit bands are head and shoulders better.3. Many but not all of the supplied watchfaces have unnecessarily small text sizes for the data fields. I once had 20/10 vision but those days are long gone. Those watchfaces could be easily corrected, but are totally useless to me as currently designed.4. The pause screen for activities such as hiking contains scrolling data fields that I would much like to be able to modify. For example I would love to replace the calories burned field with an elevation gained field. My Fenix 6X has more appropriate fields.5. Floors gained numbers are not accurate or repeatable when counted and no activity is in progress. A test of a trail section with no activity running gave a result of 7 floors, while the exact same trail section gave a result of 25 floors during a hiking activity, (and 251 ft. of elevation gain). Garmin connect synced the same numbers, while Garmin Explore synced with well over 400 ft. of elevation gain. This is not limited to the 965 as the Fenix 6X has a similar problem, both are less than accurate or repeatable when counting floors outside of an activity,
For those already familiar with Garmin, I would without a doubt say it's worth it. I've heard questions about whether you can see the screen in bright light, or whether it turns on quick enough when you turn your wrist, but those haven't been a problem for me at all. I note that I keep the touch screen "on" (which is an option), and so if it doens't come on quick enough, I simply tap the screen - I switched over from a well-known competitor product, and really, that hasn't been a problem for me at all. What keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the interface - SO many menus (and button pushes) required to perform relatively basic tasks (why do I feel like I need to "confirm" every choice with an extra, unnecessary button push?). Like changing the watch face - let me just swipe left / right to bring it up, rather than push and hold to enter a menu, make a choice, then swipe, then confirm? Again, a simple swipe left / right should handle it. I'm happy to just swipe back in the event of an inadvertent swipe to bring me to a wrong screen (just like if I accidentally swipe up/down to bring up the "Glances" menu - which happens very rarely, so it's entirely fine). All in all, the data I'm getting is totally worth it. Great detail on my swims, bikes and runs, bonus that I'm getting a lot of info on my golf game too (and very cool detail / graphics on the golf app), useful health info, useful training recommendations, etc. Could be better on the "strength" aspects of training (I get it, everyone's still focused on cardio, but strength is a HUGE factor that the general population is waking up to - get on that now!).All in all, don't regret my choice at all.
This is a great fitness tracker and smart watch. Display is absolutely sexy. Very bright and very sharp. At the time of reviewing. I have only had a total of 7 days with time on wrist, with 5 of those days using the GPS feature to track runs/walks between 1hr to 1hr25mins on average. So theoretical, if I were to keep this same frequency. The watch should last me an average of 14 days between charges. With this information I assume. A less active person should expect more than 14 days time on wrist and a more active person should probably expect less than 14 days depending on workout duration and how frequent they use certain features of course. Personally, I think these are great numbers. As a person who has previously owned both samsung and apple smart watches, ...Ā MoreThis is a great fitness tracker and smart watch. A less active person should expect more than 14 days time on wrist and a more active person should probably expect less than 14 days depending on workout duration and how frequent they use certain features of course. Personally, I think these are great numbers. As a person who has previously owned both samsung and apple smart watches, which never got more than 3-4 days with similar usage. Therefore. Anything over 10 days is a huge plus in my book. Only thing that would make this watch completely flawless in my opinion is the addition of more music service apps, for example youtube music. Also a solar feature which would help it last even longer and it would be kind of an incentive to get outside and be more active. Those features would be great but in no means are they a deal breaker. Great work on this one Garmin.
Garmin has really outdone themselves. I have used several other smartwatches and Garmin is the best. I had a Garmin Forerunner 45 and the transition was so easy with the Garmin app. I purposely bought the baby Garmin to see if I liked it having used the smartwatch named after a fruit Series 7, and a W------s Sc-- Watch. I have a few bugs to work out with Live Track notifications and the Blood O2 is slightly different/lower than a quality finger sensor but this thing is so good. I wish it had a setting for more robust notifications. The satellite tracking is spot on and the customization is crazy good. The stock watch faces are really good. The display is out of this world good. The menus are not completely intuitive but close. The tracking is Better the InReach Mini ...Ā MoreGarmin has really outdone themselves. The tracking is Better the InReach Mini 2 but of course the satellite communication of the InReach Mini is a must. If Garmin would just add this to a Forerunner, I would stop what I am doing and buy it. Regular cellphone texting capability would be great too, even if Bluetooth. The Training Readiness and Status are a nice distinction. Battery life & Management- great. I wish a watch could take my blood pressure to make a complete picture of my stress. Talk about monitoring health. My pic is a little blurry, not the watch.
I have been using the golden oldie 920XT for the longest time and decided it was time to splurge at bit. So far I absolutely LOVE this watch. A couple of new things I really like is that when I swim the watch vibrates to let me know it's my last lap through my Training Peak training swims!! Seems small, but very helpful! The watch itself is big which makes you really appreciate the usability of it! The battery life is awesome! I have about 8 training workouts a week and I teach 12 group fitness classes. I use the watch for all of them and at the end of the week I still have 38% charge left!! Lastly, and it seems small, I love the morning reports! Especially the sleep function. It lets you know how long you are in REM, Deep, Light sleep, and awake. Super cool!!The only beef I have is that I REALLY loved the 920XT mounting kit for bikes...If the 965 had that and the ability for me to control my phone music in Group Fitness classes this would literally be the perfect watch!!!It's worth the price tag all!
