I've had the gpsmap 66i for two months. Ordering and delivery were very efficient. Initial setup of the unit is all done before you receive the unit. For that part, it's a great choice.Where things get sour is for the charging temperature. There's a sensor within the GPS which will detect temps below 0°C. (freezing point) Garmin was contacted and there is no way without modifying the unit and voiding the waranty to have it charge under 0°C. You need to keep it inside your vest to circumvent that. I bought the mini 2 originally but I wanted the 66i however I read the reviews and decided on mini 2. It works ok I wanted the maps. So on my way to Yosemite I stopped at the REI in salt lake and bought the 66i on sale (yea) anyway I had it up and running by the time we made it to our destination. It worked flawlessly it was not as difficult to setup as everyone said and it kept track of the whole trail. I sent preset msgs out with no problem. It was great because there is no cell service that I could find. And as one person said you don’t want to drop your $1000 phone in the river. So for me this product is great and I would recommend it to anyone. I would liked to test out the sos feature but that’s for another adventure. Good unit, EXCEPT that if it's displaying the Trip Computer or Map pages and stored in pocket it can STOP recording if the Enter button is double pressed by accident. This is my third Garmin (prior etrex 30, GPSMAP 64st). One of the things I really liked about Garmin was that once recording started, it could not be stopped accidentally. Much to my surprise, on two occasions I got the end of day hikes and found the 66i had paused recording! Fortunately, they were local hikes to get acquainted with the unit. It is not a smart phone, but that is for a reason. Battery life. I left it on expedition mode and only charged it once over 10 days, and that may not have been necessary. I knew my phone which I use GIA Gps would not last the 10 days. All the information is there. I suggest not just buying it and expecting to know everything. Sit down and spend a couple of hours playing with it and everything will make sense. This was invaluable on my trip. I am glad Garmin finally figured out we do not want to pay for maps. Like, we live in 21th century right? And Garmin also branded itself as a tech company right? Than I don't get it why they can't have software and user interface that's up to the 2022 standard. Like seriously, nowadays most of the electronic device should be able to operate without reading any kind of manual for instruction. Apple's iphone set this trend like 10 years ago. However, from mini inreach 1 to Fenix 6 and to this GPS I am still having a hard to figuring out how to use most of the function.Especially with all the different apps that garmin has. Why can't you just have 1 or 2 apps that can do everything? For the price and monthly subscription fee, hire better UX and UI designers Garmin. I'm almost 70. The interface on this is about six months older than that. It's cumbersome and beyond unintuitive. I had the in-reach mini and loved it. I'm going back. Just trying to get rid of widgets is multiple steps. If you send locations to more than three people it will tell you there are too many characters and you have to delete some. (Not a problem on the mini). I love the larger screen to look at weather reports but frankly, looking at maps on this is a migraine in the making. Using the cursor to navigate around the map is clumsy and seems to be possessed! Being able to text with this much better than with the mini (which requires insect-sized digits). But some of them think sending you a link is a better answer than an answer. God forbid if we actually talk to the customer. Battery life is ok, but nowhere near as efficient as mini. Also, if you're spending night somewhere cold, make sure you put this in your sleeping bag or you'll lose half your battery life over night.
