Pair your compatible Garmin device with the HRM-Run to get your heart rate and real-time feedback about your running form. HRM-Run has an accelerometer in the module that measures torso movement to calculate 3 running metrics: Cadence — the number of steps per minute. It displays the total steps (right and left combined). Vertical oscillation — the bounce in your running motion. It displays the vertical motion of your torso (measured in centimeters). Ground contact time — the amount of time in each step that your foot spends on the ground while running (measured in milliseconds).

Quality:Great!Suitability:??Performance:Great!I've been using this for weeks before giving my opinion on the item.Connectivity with its fellow garmin watches is easy. You don't need to forget it in one watch to pair it in another. I'm using fenix and forerunners.Performance is great so far. I've been keeping a close eye on the numbers while running, and it definitely updates in real time and with consistency.Durability is the main feature I'm looking for and hope that it'll last. I sweat a lot during this summer, just in time for the testing of this item, and so far it's holding up. This is my first and only HRM at the moment, so everytime I ran, I use it.

I use this while running and doing various workouts to track heart rate and get the added benefit of run metrics. It really helps me see how my run quality is and I can use it combined with elevation, pace and other data to work towards adjusting my stride. It has helped me fix my uphill runs so that I can work more efficiently instead of just putting one foot in front of the other. I see how my vertical oscillations and left and right steps work when I get more of my body involved to help gain momentum. One major drawback is that this HRM is ANT+ which the apps that I use frequently like Map my Run are less compatible with. I wish the apps and iPhone would recognize the ANT+ technology more readily although the extra info I get from this HRM is worth it.

Even though this HR Monitor is somewhat outdated, it's a dramatic improvement over my previous older model Garmin HR monitor. Much more comfortable to wear and provides even more accurate data than previous models. I'm hopeful that this particular monitor will last even longer (6 years) than the Garmin product it replaces.

It is very good product, but I think more usefull product is Garmin HRM Tri. With internal saving results. But remember - It is trade off with advanced dynamics capability at running (in this product)... if you have appropriate registator(fenix 3 for example). It is only Ant+ and no BLE capability. I is restricted in programs for serious hrv analysing. There is only Elite HRV. It is awersome... but I would like to use some additional products. Resume: awersome product for training - really! But only regular product for day to day regular pulse "medical" monitoring.
I purchased this to pair with my Garmin Vivoactive hr & my just purchased Garmin Virb XE action camera. Once I was able to adjust it correctly, I am finding it relatively comfortable to wear. I have been using it primarily for jogging and TRX training. I haven't directly compared the data to my wrist hr monitor but it does seem to reflect the trends of my workout intensity accurately. I am able to see my intensity adjustments reflect my hr in real time. This way I have been successful in staying in my aerobic zone on average throughout the duration of my workouts. Overall I highly recommend this product to anyone concerned with keeping their hr in check.
I am a loyal Garmin user. Started with the 301 forever ago, upgraded to the 450CX and couldn't wait for the Fenix3.The functionality is fantastic. Satellite acquisition is speedy, HRM works great, satellite tracking even during open water swims is reliable, like the recovery advisor, and the VO2 estimate (though admittedly only an estimate) is interesting.I appreciate that Garmin finally came out with a true multi-sport product that you can wear other than when exercising. I literally wear it everyday. All of this, added to the typically amazing RRS customer service (and VIP discount), makes this the best purchase I've made in a long time.
The new Garmin heart rate monitor is an upgrade in so many ways from previous Garmin heart rate monitors. This strap is much more comfortable. I believe that it grips better against my chest during running activities. I also don't notice abrasions or chaffing from the strap edges on longer runs. When paired with my new Garmin Fenix 5, the data is amazing! So much more information is available for me to analyze following my workouts. I believe it's worth the extra money if making a new purchase or upgrading from older equipment!
This is an earlier generation HRM-Run heart rate monitor and has an accelerometer to give information about running dynamics (and works with compatible Garmin watches to give power information - through Connect IQ apps). However it ships with the earlier software version, 6.3 and does not seem to update (through the Garmin Forerunner 645) automatically to 6.6, which is necessary for having real time monitoring of the ground contact balance, stride length and vertical ratio. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the latest HRM-Run strap to provide you running power stats, this is great. If you are looking for all the bells and whistles, there are realistic limitations.
I don't normally check my HR during workouts, only if something feels unusual. After a workout is when I see if my "feels like" matches the data. I believe that less vertical oscillation means less impact on my joints, so I've made a conscious effort to run with less bounce. I decided to go with a repackaged (assuming refurbished) HRM because they seem to last only about one year. I don't mean just batteries, it's the actual unit. To their credit, Garmin replaced two of them for me at no cost to me. I do rinse it every after every workout and wash it at least once a week. It is still worth the price for me.
I find this to be seriously accurate. It can't break if you don't wash it enough though. You'll need one of those tiny Phillips screwdrivers to unscrew the main component and remove the battery etc but then you can put it in the washing machine. Worth doing once a month at least to increase longevity. This won't connect to zwift if you are looking for a multisport watch but it still connects to garmin for cycling etc.
