App for I phone is inaccurate for FLOORS - I got 11 times up stairs and 6 times down (should show 12 times down - inaccuracy). App needs finer tuning. watch face text is too small (too much info crammed in one face display - need reading glasses to see tiny numbers like total Steps) Other than that it shows good readings. still trying to figure out how to stop blocked notifications from pushing to watch (very annoying). Learning features and settings is time consuming. This is my first smart watch - nothing to compare it with. For the price it is a good watch and features are customizable. Solar charging does not work well during cloudy winter days.

MEH.The plus side? Good features for the most part, but limited in scope and function. It does what it needs to, but it is slow on scrolling through functions and there is often a severe lag between activity and measurement. Overall, that's none too bad.The written directions are very poor, they appear to have been written for someone already familiar with Garmin products, not by an educator or skilled technical writer. The charging area is so small (outer ring) that it doesn't charge well here.If you live in and enjoy Alaska, don't bother with this solar model. It simply doesn't work well here even during summer.

I bought this about a month ago. I was using samsungs newest watch on the other wrist as well. Obviously Smasungs watch works like a small phone on your wrist. I thought I would be disappointed when I saw the watch face of the Instinct but oh boy! I was not. The instinct watch reported notifications faster. I also enjoyed the use of pairing the device to read my data with samsung health. The only downside is you needed a 3rd party sync app in order to pair the information from the garmin app to the samsung app. The only other issue I had was battery life. The instinct lasted 5 times longer than the samsung (daily charged) while the instinct lasted more than 5 days. It also recharges fairly quickly too. I had to return the watch because I bought the garmin tandem cam for my wifes car. currently testing out a $50 wyze watch and compared to the instinct and it's utility and ruggedized look I am hating life with this wyze watch. You do get what you pay for and currently I wish I had the instinct back. But I prefer the safety of my wife in her car with our garmin tandem cam over me having such a beautiful watch. haha. Thanks Garmin. Love the product.

Everything works great on this watch. Works great for tracking runs and hikes. Battery lasts forever. I haven’t done any long, multi-day hikes to test out the effectiveness of the solar charger since I bought the watch, but I might update this review after I do. I can’t really thing of anything extra I’d want to justify paying extra for the latest model, and I bought this on sale, though I prefer less flashiness and less notifications. One thing I learned is that smartwatches/health trackers can’t actually tell when you’re asleep, they just guess. I know this because I once stayed up all night and it said I slept for 7 hours. Not the fault of this watch in particular, the technology is just not there yet.
After two years I still love this watch. It is a great "watch" that also lets me receive notifications. It does many of the other fitness tracker type things as well. I has physical buttons (not touch screen) so you can use it when you've got gloves on or doing something physical where the sweat on your hands/fingers make operating touchscreens difficult. It also has a basic LCD type display so the battery lasts A LONG TIME. I get 10-14 days with everything on except for SpO2 running -- on a single charge - which was the major benefit for me --- I don't want to have to charge by watch nightly. If you bring it down to "battery saver mode" (so kinda just a normal watch mode) - as someone who works outdoors, the watch will basically work indefinitely because of its ... MoreAfter two years I still love this watch. If you bring it down to "battery saver mode" (so kinda just a normal watch mode) - as someone who works outdoors, the watch will basically work indefinitely because of its solar panel. So in general their markets is 100% accurate after over 2 years of testing... If you turn on SpO2 I think I get maybe 4-7 days of battery life... I just don't use that feature much...The only complaint that I have with this watch -- which is known by Garmin and they keep trying to fix it with this series of watches -- is the barometric sensor... It is both in a bad location and I think has some software issues. As a result you'll get inaccurate "flights climbed" statistics (I'll get a notice saying I've gone up 10 flights of stairs today, when I know my elevation change has been maybe 3 flights. This also results in an inaccurate altitude (but always within say 100 feet plus or minus -- and for my work that is 'close enough')... Also also incorrect "storm alert" because it thinks the barometric pressure has dropped a lot when it really hasn't.... If very accurate altitude or flights climbed is important to you - be sure to look into the many reviews, articles, and even documentation on their offical website for details... But since those specific things don't matter to me, its a non-issue and likely is for many others...
I bought this watch in July of 2022. I use it to track all of my cardio workouts. It is great for showing trends and heart rates during workouts and throughout the day. I like that the battery life last for up to 20 days. I recently had my watch turning off during workouts and it was really frustrating. I reached out to support and after working with support they determined it was not something that could be corrected. The had me send them the watch and they sent back a brand new one. This is a great company that stands by their product. I would recommend garmin over any of the other fitness watches I have had 2 other brands and this one is by far the best for fitness minded people.
I bought this watch in December of 2020, and up until one month ago I was very satisfied. In the last month however, the battery life has fallen off a cliff. I followed the instructions to update the software, to clean the contacts, to do a hard reset, but to no avail. Now on Battery Saver mode the watch lasts for less than 24 hours on full charge. Even more strange, in the last month there were no "hard wear" events (like using at high temperature etc.). I find it hard to imagine investing in one of the premium watches with this experience, as I would like to start running ultra marathons and could use an upgrade in the maps functionality. But this sort of sudden loss of performance does not instill the trust I would need to continue with Garmin products.
One of the worst and most disappointing purchases i've ever made. i bought 2 of these (one for me and one for my GF) thinking that since it was Garmin (and the price) that i was going to have a watch that would last with accurate features. The features are practically useless, the interface and button sequences you have to press to get to the features you want would mean you worked on the team that designed it if you really wanted to use them. and when you do, they aren't accurate with the junk app. some features would randomly come on (like fitness tracking without telling you so it would run for days for no reason, and it would put itself into low power mode no matter what battery life it had). watch band lasted a year. battery lasted 2 years. now it wont even ... MoreOne of the worst and most disappointing purchases i've ever made. i bought 2 of these (one for me and one for my GF) thinking that since it was Garmin (and the price) that i was going to have a watch that would last with accurate features. I enjoy my watch a lot overall. Although, I question it's accuracy. The sleep measure is definitely inaccurate. The heart rate might be fair. I love that it charges solar and I do not need to charge it everyday; in fact, I have not charged it since I got it 2 months ago. Keep in mind, I work outside. However, the display for the battery's length of time is not accurate. It can say I have 21 days till charge left at the beginning of my day and say 18 at the end of the day (on a day in my jacket, not in the sun). I'm sure some of this has to do with how many messages are received and if you're using other features or not. For the record, I haven't and might not ever use the gps functionality. For me, I get notifications so I can keep my phone on silent, can check the time, and have a general scope of my heart rate and steps. That's all I really need. I chose this watch for the solar recharging & the lack of need to charge daily. It works for my purposes. I LOVE the sunrise & sunset being on the display. I got this light purple one, I think it's great to be available in color. I get tired of black watches. It's comfortable. I like the strap & the clasp. It's bulkiness is ok, not too much.
After reading many other reviews I selected this watch for my needs. I have been using it now for 2 weeks and have been very happy with.I have found most of the features to be useful and I really appreciate the ability to turn on and off the features you want. This watch provides everything I need in a package that's size and weight are best suited for my missions. I back country hunt, fish, camp, trail ride endurocross, kayak, ATV etc. this Garmin provides all the support features I need.Using the app on my phone is an excellent added feature as well. Being able to view your tracks and waypoints on your phone and share them is nice.At this point I have no criticism. I am very pleased with it! I have not had to worry about plugging the watch in for charging. A couple hours outdoors is more than adequate.Cabela's has been great! They offered the watch at the best price I could find anywhere and sent it free shipping. 5 stars for sure!!!Buy it!!

Garmin Instinct Solar Tactical Edition (Black)
When you can rely on Instinct, the world can rely on you. This rugged, reliable outdoor GPS watch is built to the U.S. military standard 810G for thermal, shock and water resistance (rated to 100 meters). The fiber-reinforced polymer case adds strength and durability, and the chemically strengthened, scratch-resistant display is readable in bright sunlight. You can also activate “night vision mode,” which reduces backlight settings to a level that doesn't interfere with the operation of night vision goggles. The fully vented silicone bands include two independent, removable keeper loops to ensure a secure fit and to keep you from getting caught on things. You’ve never been one to follow the beaten path — that’s where Instinct comes in. GPS, GLONASS and Galileo satellite network capability tracks in more challenging environments than GPS alone. The built-in three-axis compass and barometric altimeter help you keep your bearings. Take the guesswork out of your return journey by using the TracBack feature to navigate the same route back to start.
