This review is after a month of constant use. I had not worn a watch for nearly 10 years. When I decided to do some serious training for distance and mountain biking a lot I chose to buy a sports watch. After researching all the options I decided to get this one. It has not failed to amaze me! When running/hiking/walking 3-6 times per week I just listen to my Spotify library from the watch. No need to drag my phone along. I love that I don't need a cellular data plan for the watch. It does everything I need and the Garmin Connect on my Android give me all the details that I want. You can also access Garmin Connect through a browser on your computer. The data and details that it gathers on my runs is amazing. The coach to assist in my training for distance races has ... The coach to assist in my training for distance races has also been a big help. It also has the ability to track my strength training, and other exercise. The tracking of my health data (sleep, V02 Max, HRV, pulse, hydration, weight, etc) has exceeded my expectations. For even more software and options Connect IQ Store offers many more watch face options and data fields that you can use on your watch. Even with very heavy use I go 5-7 days without plugging it in to charge. (I think the solar model helps a little when I'm out often in the sun.) I also appreciate that there is NO monthly subscription or fee. Buy the watch and you get everything that Garmin has to offer. If you are serious about training and sports and want to track your progress and health, GET THIS WATCH!

I had a Samsung Galaxy watch 3 prior to this. I knew I'd be loosing a few useful features (blood pressure monitor and ECG reading) and have slightly worse compatibility with my Samsung phone. However, I would gain a much wider range of sports to "track" and more sophisticated feedback doing those sports. Having had the watch for 2 weeks now, I am more than happy with my choice. The battery life is amazing - around 15 days between charges (compared with 2 days for my Samsung). The touch screen is very responsive and adds to the flexibility to view menus/make decisions. The built in altimeter and compass gives you almost the same capabilities as the "Garmin Navigator" without being so "flying specific".I'm not a golf fan so lots of pre-loaded golf courses really ... I'd rather have the memory for something else but you can't unload the courses (I believe). I'm not sure the "solar" offering is worth the extra you'd pay but if you did lots of different continent travel then having the 32Gb storage from 7xPro means you can have the Europe and America topology maps both loaded. Only 16Gb on this version - I can only have one of these maps. The maps take a long time to download as well - 4-5 hours so plan ahead if you are going "off map".The range of apps available from Garmin is not huge - good for sports and activities but not as a "general lifestyle device".Possibly the biggest improvement is not between watches but with the change from Samsung Health to Garmin Connect. The feedback after doing a run, the statistics on the run and suggestions on what to do next are big leap over the Samsung offering. I brought the RD Pod to gain additional movement statistics that communicates seamlessly with the watch. The ability to create incredibly customisable running plans is very useful (couldn't achieve this with Samsung).Something I was hoping for but so far has failed is the lack of support on Garmin Pay. There are a small number of credit card companies in the UK that support Garmin Pay and I don't have any of them. I'm sure in time that will change but at the moment , no Garmin Pay on the watch.Perhaps I could have gotten away with the Forerunner 255 as I'm mainly running at the moment. But, I know with this watch , I can turn to almost any sport and it will help me along.

My experience with this watch has been terrible. Initially I was targeting with this watch because I am a surfer. If you are a surfer no not buy this watch. The back button and this button to get to the ring will just stop working. Currently I am on my second watch and it’s doing the same thing my first watch did. What is it doing you may ask? Well, both times the back button and button to get to the rink of options just stopped working. Sometimes this watch is a Mormon, it loves soaking. If you soak it in lubricated water, then maybe, just maybe the next day it will work. I love paying $800+ for a watch that I have to soak after I do my favorite sport just to get it to work properly. So, if you are a surfer just factor in 20 mins of soapy water soaking and 12 hours of waiting for this watch to work. Perhaps Garmin should employ someone that can actually solve this problem before they sell it as a surfing watch. It’s the weekend and I guess I’ll wait till Monday to talk to someone it tech support before I find out this things fate. Do better.

Great watch! Out of the box setup was nice and easy, including setting up the wallet for your eftpos transactions. Packed full of features this watch has heart rate, pulse oxygen meter, sleep monitor and multiple fitness settings. For the outdoors it has a compass, pre loaded maps, and also links to my Garmin Montana700i gps which has the InReach rescue feature. Once linked the SOS rescue signal can be deployed directly from your watch if needed. The screen is clear and well laid out, you can personalize with different preloaded watch faces or download new ones, customizable buttons so you can really personalize it to suit your needs. Perfect sport watch imo! No need to break out the phone anymore on a hike, mount a phone to my bike, or carry one on a short run. Throw some tunes on it and my wireless earbuds and I'm ready to go. Would have loved to have this when I was on the AT.I've made use of almost the entire suite of functions/apps so far and find most of them useful and decently accurate; heart rate, gps location, etc. The preloaded maps and navigation are great to have when exploring new trails and you're short on daylight. Again, this would have been great on the AT when my phone and battery charger were out of juice. Stopping frequently into towns to recharge batteries was getting annoying.Battery life & screen size are very good but sometimes I wish I would have gotten the 7X. ... MorePerfect sport watch imo! Although, I'm perfectly happy with the 7s 47mm. Definitely worth getting the sapphire solar version as I've bumped this a few times already and still looks like new. Solar doesn't do much for battery life in a wooded hike though. Some people have complained about the watch band and rashes, I've never had this happen. It can be fiddly at times when adjusting the strap though. It doesn't absorb sweat, slide around andcleans up quickly. I try to rinse out any debris that might have gotten into it during an activity.Overall I love the watch, but not the price.
I've been a fitness freak all my adult life (now 47!) and moved from Garmin (910XT) to Suunto after issues with the old one. Now it's clear that Suunto has sadly fallen too far behind and this is the one to buy. While i already regularly trail run, open water swim, surf, cycle, etc I'm planning to do an ultra marathon in Jan 2024.Firstly the appearance when you open it; the watch looks fantastic with a perfect size (fairly slim wrists on me) and it's very comfortable too. Then the battery life; it's superb. And the apps; you really can do almost anything with this device. Are you an athlete looking to stay on track with your athletic goals? I am a huge Garmin fan, and the moment this watch was available I jumped at the chance to use it! As with my Fenix before, the 7 offers high performance and plenty of features to help me stay on track with my goals. The watch's clear display makes it easy to read, even in low-light conditions. I use so many of the “applications,” including alarms, music playing, GPS, and different workouts that I can compare. Also, using the Connect app I have downloaded different training plans, and I love the morning update that “nudges” me toward the next couple of workouts. I purchased this 2 months ago replacing my Suunto Ambit 2. This is a big upgrade for sure. Overall I am still learning how to use it. Part of the problem with all new electronics is it has more features that you can use, or realize. So here is a brief overview: Using it for mountaineering, super fast and accurate GPS. Nice to have the maps preloaded. Since the screen is still a watch, you have to learn how to zoom in and out while the screen is locked. The specific screens are totally customizable and thus very helpful but takes a bit of time to set it all up. I so far do not think much of the solar...does not really seem to make much of a difference in battery life. Speaking of the battery, overall really good considering the features that use energy. I so far do not think much of the solar...does not really seem to make much of a difference in battery life. Speaking of the battery, overall really good considering the features that use energy. The heart rate monitor is OK, not always correct. At the beginning of a climb I will be working really hard at altitude and it shows a walking heart rate. Over time, and in certain positions, seems to "catch up". I really like the feature of automatically using the map elevation to set the altimeter when starting a climb. Seems like the elevation gain and loss is still dependent on how windy it is, which changes the pressure and thus adds elevation gain.So at present seems to be working well, I am able to use it and customize it, but it does take work to learn and set it up for your liking. My biggest negative is the watch face should be more easy to read, without using the back light. I think this will improve but at present kind of hard if not in bright light. Won't give it 5 stars until I use it for much longer and see if it continues to hold up.
I decided to make the switch from an Apple Watch to a more sports oriented watch. I wanted a more traditional style, and utilities that gave me more information on my performance. I chose the Garmin Fenix 7 after ready many reviews and comparing specs. I have worn this watch everyday and am impressed with the level of feedback and options available. I was a little overwhelmed, at first, with the amount of info and custimizable features but have acclimated to the software quickly. I have already ran about 100 miles with this watch and feel confident that the accuracy of the data allows me to train more effectively. The battery life is substantial and the watch looks great. I returned the Epix 2 and got the Fenix 7. When I first used the Epix 2, I was astonished by the quality of the display. I have been using the Fenix series for a few years and the Epix 2 display is totally next level. However, in practical use on my bicycle, the display times-out and goes dim. If you're a runner or swimmer, it's a great watch because a wrist gesture will bring it to 100% brightness. I'm used to the quirks of the Fenix display so I'm happier overall. The Epix 2 is truly stunning but I need my watch to be visible during long rides. Overall, the Epix 2 and Fenix 7 are wonderful upgrades. I wish the titanium-colored bezel of the Fenix 6 was available as a color option.
