I highly recommend watching DCRainmaker review the light prior to purchasing one. He sums up the lights functions way better than I ever could. I really like the light and it works well with the existing Garmin gear on my various bikes. It's let down by the way the smart settings work and chew battery runtime. If you don't mind changing the settings manually for multi hour rides it's a really good headlight. I turned it to manual mode after the first couple of rides and it doesn't bother me anymore. The light spread is good on my road bike. I'm yet to try it at night on the MTB.

This light is not worth the extra money Garmin charges. The smart feature is useless as it drains a fully charged battery in just a bit over an hour. I contacted Garmin and they suggested that I disable the smart feature to get more battery run time. So, you pay extra for a smart feature but if you need light for more than an hour you can’t use that feature. Otherwise it’s a solid light but you can get the same quality for less.

I’ve used this light on several dozen road rides since I purchased it.The Pros:- Good battery life in all modes except max brightness (1.5 hours or so)- Feels very solid- Easy to mount and adjust- Possible to display remaining battery life on your Garmin device- It projects a very even and consistent light beam (no bright or dark spots)- The brightness does not fade too much as the battery level dipsCons:- A bit heavy- Expensive for an 800 lm light- Easy to pair with Garmin Edge but too finicky to change settings while riding (need to navigate through several menus, not enough options to personalize settings)

I have Aerofly bars with the standard SL7 Tarmac out-front mount and was looking for a light that I could mount underneath my Garmin 1030 now that it's getting dark in the mornings. When the light came, I managed to find the GoPro attachment that came with the bike that screws underneath the mount, and then screw the UT800 onto the GoPro attachment. But this has proven to be a real pain in use.First, I had several occasions when the combined weight of Garmin 1030 + UT800 caused the whole mount to come loose whilst out on the road. Because of the location of the screw that I needed to tighten on the mount, I had to unscrew the UT800 from the GoPro attachment, then unscrew the GoPro attachment itself, just to get to the screw to tighten the mount. Because of the location of the screw that I needed to tighten on the mount, I had to unscrew the UT800 from the GoPro attachment, then unscrew the GoPro attachment itself, just to get to the screw to tighten the mount. Doing that in cold / wet weather by the side of the road without losing any of the screws, then reassembling everything while the rest of my group waited around was not joyful.Second, if I want to switch the light from one bike (with the SL7 mount) to another bike with the "UT800 compatible" Garmin mount, I have to unscrew it from the GoPro attachment and screw on the Quarter-Turn one.Likewise, if I want to charge the light, I either have to bring the bike somewhere close enough to a plug socket, or unscrew it from the attachment. Finally, once I connected the light to my Garmin, it behaved odd. I would put it on full beam, and then after a few seconds it would decide to go into flashing mode. Not impressed when, having spent well over £100 to avoid exactly this scenario, I didn't see a massive pothole while the light was in flash mode, blew out the back wheel and shook the mount loose. For a light costing well over £100, Garmin should have thought things through better. Of course, it's massively bright etc., but that's no good if it's on the wrong bike and / or the mounting screws have fallen on the floor and gotten lost...
Having already had experience with Garmin radar and head unit, I decided to give this light a try. Overall, I'm quite happy with this choice. It is worth noting that this version of the light doesn't come with a handlebar mount, only with helmet straps. This is the only difference between the Trail and Road versions of the light. The light is of very high quality and bright enough for all conditions. The only thing I wish could be better is the battery life on the highest light settings.
My weekday training rides are done pre-dawn most days, so I need a good light. I've used Nite-Rider and Light & Motion over the years happily. Then I bought a Cannondale SystemSix, with bespoke aero bars. There is no place to mount a light except the bottom of the computer bracket. So I ordered the UT800.It twists on and off in just a second, never shifts or slips, and can easily be moved to our tandem. It provides plenty of light to see and be seen. Running it one step below full power I get 2-3 hours of steady use or in blink mode during the day I get more.So why not 5 stars? I tried it in paired mode with my 520 twice, then unpaired it. At 15 mph it switches to full brightness, which gobbles up battery life. Then the second day I had it paired it decided it ... So I unpaired it and went back to manual mode, which works great. The only problem is that there is no way to know how much battery life is left, so I just charge it after every couple of rides and don't worry about it.
The headlight is of great quality. It is bright and has different light modes. The headlight was well packed, and arrived nicely on time before the weekend kicked off! Yes, the headlight is on the pricier side compared to other brands, however, if you want seamless integration with your Garmin cycling computer, this Garmin headlight is the way to go.As a first time customer, I’m very impressed with Sigma’s delivery of the product and competitive pricing. I’ll be sure to drop by at your Kingston shop as well!
I bought this for a few reasons.First I had a 400 lumen light and I ride a fair amount in the dark and it wasnt quite bright enough so I was in the market for an 800 lumen light as this was the best compromise between size and brightness. Next, I had a Garmin Edge 830 and I knew this would integrate with it and I liked the idea of automatic headlights so I dont have to remember to turn them on . It works great and didnt really cost that much more than a non Garmin 800 lumen light. Battery life is not amazing. I pretty much charge up after every ride if I used it as a headlight to light my path and every other day if it was just day riding. The variable light feature is cool but I find the automatic nature to be the biggest benefit to me. Also this light works well ... I pretty much charge up after every ride if I used it as a headlight to light my path and every other day if it was just day riding. The variable light feature is cool but I find the automatic nature to be the biggest benefit to me. Also this light works well as a standalone light without a Garmin head unit. Obviously its slightly pricey if you dont use the automatic features but its still very usable on a quick commute if you dont need to break out the bike computer. addendum after a season of use: realistically most riders who use this type of system will likely be riding fast enough that the light will always be on maximum intensity so the battery savings is really not a practical argument. Unless you are the one guy with a $500-bike computer, a $100 light and a cheapbike who rides at 12mph.............lets get real. the battery life is a problem. I find at maximum intensity I now get only 45 minutes and you cant hook up a battery pack to it to extend the light like many other brands. The light shuts off while charging and wont connect to the computer while charging. I have relegated this light to flashing mode trips only since I normally ride for longer than the light can work at night at full intensity. So its daylight only and I use another light ( cheaper) with much better battery life but no computer control for night rides. Its too bad because I like the concept
I’m using it on an ebike so I wanted a solid mount that didn’t shift. The rubber mounts on many bike headlights aren’t good enough, and the light changes direction frequently. This light is solid and doesn’t shift. The quick release, mounts underneath as the top section is for the Garmin cycling computer, takes a few minutes to get use to and then you’re golden. I’ve used the mount in reduced light and it’s fine, a reassuring click when it’s ready for use.I don’t have it slaved to the cycling computer, so it doesn’t varying intensity to the bike’s speed. I just manually change it, and that works fine, nice broad beam.
It’s more expensive than others you could get elsewhere like Amazon, but one thing I want to note is that the position of the clamp (further back on the body) makes it ideal to fit onto all types of mounts, including on my own bike, where the mount itself sits further back on the handlebar and other lights wouldn’t be able to fit. A little design change but makes all the difference. Also, it’s Garmin, never had problems with them then make good quality stuff.
