I bought this after using a fitbit charge 2 for many many years. I’ve now had the vivosmart 5 for a year and I truly believe it’s a downgrade. Here’s why;1. A key selling point for this device for me is that it’s made by Garmin, which is all about data collection, and data accuracy. These brand traits did not hold true however, as the device has poor real time step tracking, and also has very poor heart rate tracking - it can be extremely low, or extremely high, particularly when doing physical activity for 10-15mins. It seems to level out if your heart rate is consistent for 20mins+2. I love that it has a physical controls on the device, however it and the touch screen could be of better quality and I have issues tapping the display, occasionally it locks up ... MoreI bought this after using a fitbit charge 2 for many many years. Lastly the sensor light design on this product are really poor, and often when sleeping I can see the light flashing THROUGH my comfort blanket, which is ridiculous. It’s so bright and distracting.4. The display information could be much more efficient - see fitbit, and I find it silly they offer no customization on the order or items displayed. What do I like about this product?- It has great integration with apple health- It’s small, and has a good quality strap

A solid minimalist smartwatch for those that want to keep on top of their fitness goals. This watch monitors your heart rate, stress levels, sleep quality, step count and workout activities. Once it learns more about you, it will make recommendations to help you achieve your goals. The battery life drains at about 10% on quiet days and 20% on days that I activate activities. The step count is pretty accurate, but please note that if you are doing a lot with your arms (cleaning walls for instance), it may add to your step count. It works out stress by your heart rate variability, taking into account moments that you are probably moving about so that it doesn't add to your stress by mistake. One feature that has really impressed me is sleep quality. For those that are already fitness buffs, it is still a good buy if you want to keep costs down. I'm sure the more expensive Vivo watches are more suitable, but this one is still a great buy in my opinion.

This watch is fine when it is working but is very temperamental and is a let down. It is frozen and stuck on one screen which does not tell anything except a graph of the last week's activities. I tried everything but it remains frozen. It is still connected to my iphone but that's about it. I think it is such a shame to pay that much for a very limited time. I really needed to measure my heart rate, my steps and calories but this has now all stopped and it may just be two years old or under. I expected much better from a well known name like Garmin and I think the company should do better than this. I shall not buy it again albeit I gave my sister one last Christmas as a gift but she's not too impressed with its performance either. Vivosmart 5 is a useful and comfortable tracker. Easy to setup and synch with you mobile phone for daily recording on your heart rate, steps, distance covered and intensity of exercise. Additionally, inputs are message notifications form your phone, goal aspirations and celebratory motivations. Choose the length of wear daily or as a way to check on your fitness goals. Personally, I need reading glasses so the V5's screen can be too small for nearsighted folk without glasses. Overall an ace wearable tracker.
I'm a firefighter-paramedic and I was looking for a tough, small/low profile smart watch and this is just that. It does almost everything I need. The only things lacking are a digital seconds tracker on the watch faces and the ability to track custom workouts on your watch. You can only track preset default workouts like cardio or strength training. Overall a great watch. I wore this watch in a structure fire that was polluted with thick smoke and high temps and it was no worse for wear. Definitely recommend.
I bought a Vivosmart 4 four and a half years ago and was pretty happy with it, except that the bezel became detached, and the strap was showing signs of wear. I also wanted to have a main watch and a spare, so I bought the Vivosmart 5. I had looked at quite a few similar watches when I bought the 4, and it seemed to offer very good value for money. A friend advised she could wear it even with a nickel allergy if she dried it after it got wet and wore it on a different wrist each day.I miss the altimeter which told me how many 'flights of stairs' I had climbed, but it was never very accurate so can understand why it is not included in the Vivosmart 5. Some people have commented on the battery life. I have found this lasts longer on the Vivosmart 5 than the 4, but the life depends totally on which functions are enabled. We moved offices recently, so I enabled the new function 24 hour blood oxygen monitoring to test the environment. This ran the battery down in about 4 days, but when I returned to night time monitoring only, the battery lasts longer and I can usually get about a week out of it. Another thing I could disable is linking with my phone for GPS, call alerts and messages, then I reckon it the battery would last even longer. It's a matter of choice.I have had problems after a couple of software updates, when the watch lost the connection with my phone. The first time, I tried lots of things, then uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Connect, but the second time, it seemed to come back when I shut down both the watch and phone and started them up agaThe strap on the Vivosmart 5 is replaceable, so be careful that you don't 'pop' the watch out of it by accident. It also means that you can wash and dry both watch and strap separately, a great advantage over the 4.Garmin Connect for the Vivosmart 5 has more features than for the 4. For example, there are comments on a dropdown on each type of sleep on the sleep score screen with some text to advise on the quality of your sleep and the effect that might be having on your health. Also, if you do have your watch linked to your phone for walks, clicking on a walk will show it superimposed on a map if you have something like Google Maps loaded. The accuracy of the route will depend on how you have set things up. I never tried this with the 4, so don't know if it had that feature. The 5 is too great an improvement to want to check that out. I have had it for a few months and am still finding out more about what it can do.I was pleased with the Vivosmart 4, but the Vivosmart 5 is a huge improvement, and it is very good value for money for the rich dataset it provides. Also there is no monthly charge. I hope Garmin don't change that. Other devices are available, but this is the one for me.
When this first arrived it seemed good, but less than 4 months in it no longer works. It fails to measure my heartrate, stress levels and energy levels at all, claiming there is "low HR signal" and poor "fitting" on my wrist (it's positioned as it always has been and as the instructions state it should be). It has very limited options when it comes to choosing which type of exercise you're doing in terms of other Garmins (eg there is no option to monitor your workouts if they are Pilates/yoga etc, just "breathwork" or "strength" which return inaccurate results). It also constantly needs to be reconnected to your phone to update itself, to the point that mine now shows the wrong time if it's not been connected to my mobile, which seems entirely ridiculous given that ... MoreWhen this first arrived it seemed good, but less than 4 months in it no longer works. Its battery life isn't great - need to charge at least once a day. Perhaps the most annoying thing about it though is that the red and green lights on its underside, which are presumably part of the subpar sensors it uses to monitor physical activity, are very conspicuous because of its slim shape. They flash constantly and it's a distraction to myself and others - so much so that someone in the cinema asked me if I could turn off my phone but it was just the watch's flickering sensor. It's a significant amount of money for me and I wish I'd spent it on something else
Review for Vivosmart 5 purchased June 2024:Device uses realtime bluetooth link with App on phone for the tracking, which is OK unless the bluetooth link disconnects. Recent hike had the correct GPS route tracking but the distance was recorded as 5 Km less than the actual distance, review of the track afterwards showed that the half way point was 7 Km to get there and a stated 2 Km to get back even though the track was correct. Previously I had a Fitbit Charge 4 where there was the option of using the device for the GPS (which depleted the battery rapidly) or using the Fitbit App on the phone for the tracking which then syncs with the device when the activity is stopped. The Garmin App is not very user friendly. The Garmin App is not very user friendly. Although the strap is a little bulky it seems that it might be more robust for the attachment to the device than the Fitbit.Watch out for price changes: at time of purchase Fitbit Charge 6 was more expensive than Vivosmart 5, now at end July 2024 prices are reversed!
I wanted something to sleep with and give me comfort about my oxygen levels and heart conditions. Something smaller than my Phenix Pro.I had another Vivosmart before and thought it was fair... and decided to buy a newer one. Thought it had evolved... But this was not what I expected from a Garmin by far.I just cannot find words to the disappointment I feel with this wearable.I quickly took it out of the package and threw the box away... but if had not done that I would have returned ...I am a loyal and proud fan of Garmin products but this one broke the cycle. It is bulky, readings are not reliable, the battery runs out in a blink.
I've used the watch for just over 1 year. Previously had an honor band 3. Since this watch was a similar size I really hoped it would be an upgrade but it's not.First, the watch is pretty much useless unless you constantly have it connected to your phone via Bluetooth.Clock: This is accurate as long as you have it connected to your phone because that's where it's pulling its data from.Steps: Fairly accurate. However I use the feature where it auto starts fitness tracking if I walk for more than 5 minutes. That doesn't always work as it doesn't always detect it correctly. Its also suppose to auto stop the workout after 1 minute but its hit or miss. For example I jump in the car after a walk and it thinks I'm walking 50 miles an hour. Its also suppose to auto stop the workout after 1 minute but its hit or miss. For example I jump in the car after a walk and it thinks I'm walking 50 miles an hour. The Honor band would have stopped my workout instantly if it detected that. Also when in fitness tracking mode you're very limited on what you can do on the watch. All you can see is the time and how long you been working out for. You can't reach any of the other functions like heart rate which is very annoying.Heart rate: Totally inaccurate. During a hard workout it says I'm hovering between 58 and 80. When in reality I'm in the 160 to 170 range. Usually after 30 minutes of a workout it will tell me that my heart rate is somewhere around 110 but that is also completely inaccurate. Very rarely did it actually work properly. I followed all instructions, even resetting the watch once a week which the manual says you're supposed to do which is a dead giveaway that this watch is not very good.Sleep: Semi accurate. For the most part it does track your sleep somewhat accurately but sometimes it's wildly off, for example I says I went to sleep hours before I actually did or went to sleep hours after I actually did. It does not track napping.O2: inaccurate. I went to the doctor and they told me a normal person's O2 level should be around 98 or higher This watch tells me my 02 level is 88 to 92 so I should be in the hospital. Conclusion: I had high hopes for this watch but it's just not accurate. None of their software updates have helped, in fact frequently it made it worse.
