I was a Zumo 396 LMT owner which I originally bought for my two road bikes. I found that my 396, although great for on-road use, was not great for off-road. So I decided to step-up to the Zumo XT, which is much better for off-road use with my dual sport. Of particular importance in my case is the ability to follow off-road "tracks". More specifically, after going Apps -> Tracks -> select a track -> press the wrench icon...there should be an option to show/hide the track...Right now the only option available to "sort of" hide a track is to change the track's color to some color that you decide represents a hidden track...Without this feature, all tracks loaded onto your XT display on the map and the only way to have a track not show is to delete it

Love the device itself, very nice and easy to use! The collaboration software is very dated and complicated to set up with very hard to find instructions for HOW to set up. Example using Garmin Explore software on computer, setting up Garmin Drive app on Phone and integrating with Garmin Zumo XT. Very cluggy and overly complicated. Come on GARMIN, you can do better here. Make your software and integration work as well as the hardware please. Lastly, when this didn't work initially I contacted Garmin Customer Support with very POOR results. This should have been a SLAM DUNK easy support issue but they were not able to help and to this day (5) days later still haven't gotten back with me after initial escalation. Purchased for an upcoming trip. Trip is some months away so I'm still learning various aspects of it. Very easy to read while riding. The feature where the map scale changes with the speed is outstanding.Mounting is very easy with the obvious exception of running the harness. That of course would depend upon what you're mounting it on. I am considering another harness for my other bike, too much trouble to move it from bike to bike.The mounting system is exactly the same as the RAM system, so I was able to use my existing RAM mirror mount to fit the XT onto my road bike. The extensions also work. I found the mid length RAM extension better suited to my needs.The uint does need a full overnight charge when you get it out of the box. You can turn off the screen and ... Zumo XT first two days of figuring it all out.I've just bought a Zumo XT and could not figure out the internal battery charging. Turning on the Zumo the internal battery symbol was way down to just slice of yellow. The USB cable seems to be able to operate the Zumo but I could not see any evidence of adding a battery charge. The little battery symbol didn't change with the Zumo XT turned on or off on USB wall charger. Then I thought the Zumo XT was defective and sent it back to Garmin. Well, the replacement acted the same way. Just great! That means more information was needed. So, what I found was the Garmin will not charge the internal battery with any USB attempt (cables/chargers). It needs the motorcycle mount attached to the back with a 12vdc power source AND ... It needs the motorcycle mount attached to the back with a 12vdc power source AND the Garmin must remain turned on to charge the internal battery. That is nuts. MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH - Power from the rear mount and Garmin must kept ON to charge the internal battery. TIP- to see the detail about what is happening with the internal battery using your finger touch the little battery symbol on the main screen for about 5 seconds and the unit goes into diagnostic mode and shows a Ka-billion bit of data on the battery. Percent charge is useful and current (milliamps) going into the battery when on the 12 vdc source. Any USB cable/charger shows ZERO milliamps going int the battery to confirm everything I've said. To get out of the diagnostics press EXIT at the left most bottom button and the unit will flash twice and reboot. There are more lessons on the interaction between the Basecamp and Garmin Express computer programs is a bit confusing. Also, the intuitiveness of the Basecamp is a FAIL. Give yourself many hours to figure out even the basics of the Basecamp. And that is on top of linking the PC programs to the Zumo and the Zumo to your phone with another app (Garmin Drive) and your helmet com. It's been a long road and I haven't even got the Zumo on the bike yet.
Have used the Zumo 665 for many years and been interested in trying this for a while. Finally got one and impressed with the screen brightness and most of the features but a little disappointed in the functions and accessibility.I like the ability to get weather and traffic via Garmin Drive on my iPhone versus another XM subscription. That's good!On my 665 I could setup a screen icon that would show my all Harley Davidson dealerships just by clicking on it but it appears that is not possible with this unit. Not good!The database for POIs doesn't appear to be as extensive as on the 665. When searching for restaurants, for example, near a destination, the list is very incomplete for that particular area and jumps to more remote areas/cities. Not good!Getting ... Not good!Getting routes into the XT seems to work pretty much the same as the 665 using Basecamp via USB cable, but the methodology for importing them wirelessly is much too complex and leaves much to be desired. Why zumo doesn’t support it when there is a microphone for vast majority of helmet communication devices? A step back to me.Another challenge it doesn’t accept well Australian addresses that are officially a corner of two streets. Try to enter address of McDonalds in St Marys South.Also I ended up buying a third party solution to get device attached to motorcycle as the idea of leaving such expensive navigator just clipped with stock harness out of the box seems to be not well thought through by the designers. Most notable is the clarity and relatively high definition on maps-road names are much easier to read, etc. But the XT has a lot of nice new features I didn't know about, particularly that the MC mount and cable is a simple two-wire setup instead of the $150 multi-plug that the 660 used, replacing those functions and more with Bluetooth. Saying it has a "topo" function is a bit deceiving....while it's nice to switch from Maps to Bird's Eye to Topo on screen, topo only shows some minor color variations and not the elevation lines like a real topo map does. So, using Garmin Base Camp, I planned a simple 45-minute route with my home being both the origin and the final destination. Base Camp takes some getting used to, but it is possible to plan routes in this app. I originally tried planning routes in Google Maps and transferring over via Base Camp as a .kmz file, but gave up as Base Camp would re-calculate the route before sending to the device. In searching through Garmin FAQs, I found that zumo xt apparently can lose map detail when you upload a Garmin update to the zumo xt (which I had recently done). How can this be? The "fix" is to go into Garmin Express and reload the zumo xt map system to your device. Why is this necessary and how is this user-friendly? After sorting through all this "simple" route planning, I verified my zumo xt had most of the route I had planned in Base Camp sort of correct (zumo xt re-calculated a few very minor diversions --- tolerable, but annoying). Now for the final ride test using the zumo xt! As soon as I began the route, zumo xt constantly began trying to re-route me to the origin (my home) instead of letting me proceed on the round trip that would have eventually brought me back to the origin. I gave up listening to the zumo xt navigation instructions as they just became a complete distraction. To complicate matters, bluetooth pairing between my zumo xt, my smartphone, and my helmet headset was problematic. Couldn't get my headset to do its "usual thing" like make phone calls, or play music from my smartphone. Its undoubtedly bluetooth connection issues, but I am not sure whether its my smartphone, my headset, or my zumo xt, or some combination thereof. I will try again after consulting more FAQs or other sources of information. But this is so frustrating first time out-of-the-box. Not at all user-friendly and far, far from a delight to use. One would think if you are paying ~ $500 for such a device, that it would work as advertised. I may change my mind later, but so far very disappointed in my Garmin zumo xt purchase. My iPhone gives me better directions and is head-and-shoulders more user friendly than the Garmin zumo xt and the ecosystem its supposed to play in, including Base Camp and Google Maps.

It is loaded with motorcycle specific features such as providing state helmet laws when crossing state lines and providing curvy, long way 'round routes on request. I purchased this specifically to use on my dual sport bike, but I expect I will probably also mount it on my R1200 GSA along with the Nav V. I'll use the Nav V's interface to display bike specific info such as engine temp, tire pressures etc and use the XT for navigating and to manage music. The music interface allows me complete control of and information about the music on my phone, much better than the direct phone to headset method I ... Particularly the Micro-SSD card holder is flimsy and cheap. Gone are the days of a nice slot for the card. The slots have been replaced by a cheap, thin, aluminum holder that won't stay down properly. I am currently waiting for a replacement unit for my 1st one because the SSD card would not reliably read. The card holder just won't hold it down tight so it's hit or miss.The Display is *very* glossy.
