It also contains a good set of deep Metric(10mm – 19mm) and standard Metric (10mm - 24mm) sockets. There are also 3” and 5” extensions and universal joint that fit the ratchet’s 1/2” anvil. Of course, the 1/2” ratchet is also included. All of the pieces come in a rigid molded plastic carrying case with plastic latches in the front which hold all of the pieces securely. There’s no type of carrying handle for the case and since the sets weighs about 17 pounds, a handle could certainly be useful.The precision of the sockets seems good and I felt no play on the bolt heads and nuts I worked with. I didn’t measure them but the GearWrench site says they meet or exceed ASME B107.2/B107.33M that deals with the size precision. The site also says they have an “Off-Corner Loading Design” that is supposed to reduce rounding of the fastener you’re working with. I had no problem with any rounding but I really wasn’t working with any difficult bolts. The set says it’s made in Taiwan and the box says there’s a lifetime warranty but I couldn’t find the details on that.This is a very nice set of 1/2” ratchet/sockets at a good price. It includes a good selection of sizes in standard and deep sockets in both SAE and metric sizes. The full polish chrome is attractive and cleans up easily and the hard stamped sizes will not wear off with use. The case, while it holds all of the pieces securely could use some sort of carrying handle. Overall this set does just what I needed. I was looking for a heavy duty 1/2" deep socket set and this is exactly that. Upon opening the case you're greeted with a quality socket set, and I only say that because I already own a Gearwrench torx set and that has lasted through some heavy abuse. I recently purchased a larger truck and with that comes the need for larger tools, which is where this set will be put to work. Each socket has a great finish, with clear etching identifying each socket. The really nice part of this set is the ratchet - it is a 120 click meaning you barely have to move the handle to catch the next click. The socket walls are stronger because of this, but depending on the work you do this is something to think about.

However this case is a complete piece of junk. It is so flimsy all my sockets came disorganized. A case should be able to hold all the tools in their proper spots, this will never be able to do that. The picture shows how the case from the first time I opened it. Secondly, the etching is quite poor being deeper on certain sockets and as the picture shows as thin as not even being able to see it. So now I have a 5/16th socket I'll never remember has missing lettering. Last negative here is that the deep sockets aren't actually deep sockets. THIS 1/2" DRIVE SAE/METRIC STANDARD AND DEEP MECHANICS TOOL SET (49-PIECES) IS VERY WELL MADE AND FUNCTIONAL. THE RATCHET IS SOLID AND SMOOTH WHEN PUT TO USE. THE SOCKETS FIT TIGHT BUT ATTACH AND REMOVE EASILY. I REALLY LIKE THE SELECTION OF SAE STANDARD AND METRIC SOCKETS. THE SETS CASE IS NICE ITS SOLID AND WELL MARKED TO STAY ORGANIZED WHEN USING THE SELECTIONS. THE SOCKETS ARE WELL MARKED TO MAKE YOUR SELECTIONS EASILY. THE CASE HOLDS THE SET VERY SECURE AND WITH THE 30LB WEIGHT OF THIS SET THAT A GOOD FEATURE,EVERYTHING STAYS IN PLACE. THIS IS A GREAT ADDITION TO MY TOOL SELECTIONS .
This 49 piece wrench set is perfect for the weekender or the DIY'er. This is a very nice wrench set. It covers just about any problem that could happen that you would need a socket set to take care of. I like the choice of metric and standard in the same box so you are not lookin all over for the metric set or the SAE set. The gears on the rachest seem strong enough to handle any job that you could use your hand and arm strength to tackle. The selection is perfect on sizes and its easy to disseminate between metric and SAE. I put this set in my boat where its handy for all kinds of problems. Great set!
This Gear Wrench forty nine piece socket set is the real deal, not a flimsy cheap set but a high quality heavy duty set for the man or woman who is serious about being a mechanic. It comes in two different kinds of sockets, metric as well as American sizes. Both the American and metric come with deep well sockets as well as the standard length socket. The case that comes with this is a very nice case that will last for many years. The best part of all is they come with a life time warranty. Do yourself a favor and head to Home Depot and pick yourself up a set or get one for your mechanic spouse or friend and then every time they use them they will think of you.
This set is very nice minus one thing. It does NOT include deep sockets! What it has is long sockets with shallow contacts surfaces! This matters a lot in tight areas when loosening a nut or bolt. The shallow cut contact surface will force the socket and ratchet out towards whatever is behind the ratchet, sooner than a DEEP socket would. This is also an issue in other ways which anyone that wrenches much could understand. Attached is a picture with a gearwrench socket with the shallow cut contact surface and next to it is a REAL DEEP SOCKET. Dissapointed, minus two stars for dropping the ball on an otherwise nice set. The shallow cut contact surface will force the socket and ratchet out towards whatever is behind the ratchet, sooner than a DEEP socket would. This is also an issue in other ways which anyone that wrenches much could understand. Attached is a picture with a gearwrench socket with the shallow cut contact surface and next to it is a REAL DEEP SOCKET. Dissapointed, minus two stars for dropping the ball on an otherwise nice set. Other than that, one small complaint is they are pretty hard to read the sizes for my old eyes without putting on my glasses which I tend to not wear when wrenching. Not dinging them for my habit though. Just the stupid NOT DEEP SOCKETS.
