The 16-piece GearWrench flex head metric wrench set is a significant addition to my arsenal. These wrenches feature 72 teeth, requiring only 5 degrees of swing angle. With the 180-degree flex heads, these are the ideal tools to attack fasteners in awkward locations. The size coverage is especially awesome. In the first picture, I compare the length of my eight 17mm wrenches. The furthest left is the Craftsman raised panel. It is the shortest one at 215mm. Next are the GearWrench 6-point combo, 0-offset, flex head, and reversible ratcheting wrenches. All of them are about 225mm. The Craftsman locking flex head wrench is 250mm. The Craftsman and Carlyle long-pattern are both around 260mm, with the Carlyle being slightly longer. For the open end, the 2nd picture shows that all three ratcheting GearWrench offerings have identical profile. The Craftsman long-pattern has a slightly fatter profile, and the Craftsman locking flex head is the fattest. The GearWrench 6-point, Craftsman raised panel and Carlyle has very similar outside profile. Thinner profile enables better access while fatter ones tend to be stouter. Typically, thinner profile is slightly preferred since ratchets and sockets are used to attack stubborn fasteners first. Among them the Carlyle has a very aggressive anti-slip design, the GW 6-point has a moderate anti-slip design while all others have smooth teeth. Anti-slip is preferred when dealing with nasty fasteners, while smooth teeth tend to protect the finish of fasteners. Both are desirable. The above comparisons show that the GW flex head wrenches follow a conventional design overall with an emphasis on the flex head feature. These wrenches are surprisingly convenient in certain scenarios. I can remember that once I had to remove a bolt hidden between radiator support and front frame and a flex head wrench is the only tool that can remove it. They are designed to remove tricky fasteners hidden in difficult positions, rather than rusty/stubborn fasteners exposed to elements. The Carlyle seems to fit that bill the most. One particular issue concerning flex head wrenches is that the heads become too floppy. It then becomes difficult to keep the heads in the proper position. Among all 16 wrenches, only the 9mm and the 17mm wrenches seem a bit too easy to flex. All other wrenches are perfect. Tightening the hex screws on the yokes can resolve the issue. But it would be nice if all the wrenches have the right amount of tension out of the factory. BTW, the hex screws are SAE instead of metric. A less obvious feature is that one side of the wrench beam has grooves so that it will be easy to know when I am turning clockwise or counterclockwise. The overall package is stunning in appearance, but the rack I received was beaten up during shipping. The 8mm and the 22mm have trouble staying put in the rack. The rack still works very well when laying flat inside the drawer. But it would be a stretch to hang them up on the wall. Overall, the wrenches are very well designed and executed with some small imperfection. The 21 and 22mm wrenches obviously share the same blank. Same thing for 24 and 25mm. Consequently, the smaller wrenches, 21 and 24, appear stouter than their large siblings, which seems a bit strange. Other than that, these tools are perfect.

Bought these to work on a Miata. After sencond use, 14mm flex head just flopped over. Sure didn't last. Made sure torx screw was tight (it was). Took apart to see if i could fix it. I could not. Tried to get a hold of seller. No luck. So, i went down to harbor freight and bought a 14mm flex head wrench. It works great...and still works over a year later. I noticed in the comments that the 14mm had problems. Plus a few other. I will not buy gearwrench again. I'll go down to HB and buy the set. Over hyped in my opinion.

First glance, nice!First feel, right out of the box... I picked up the 8mm and spun the gears, feels good, then the 10mm and spun, feels good. I grabbed the 25mm, felt just as good. I went one size down to the 24mm and it felt much coarser. I marked the tool and the rotating “socket” with a sharpie and went out to count the teeth... yup, 72, just felt more aggressive if you will. I would swear it was a 60, but I counted, it was 72, but just felt much coarser, maybe the housing allows a bigger tooth. No skips, except 20mm, but there is no “standard” that uses a 20mm head. I have included a table that I found while looking this up. You rotate the wrench forward and lift to remove and place down and rotate back to put away. I prefer the rubber compliant types that hold and release or the magnetic types. I suppose it could be worse and they saved a couple of bucks and we didn't get any holder at all.I compared the heads to my fixed head GearWrench combination wrenches and exactly the same size, no penalty for the flex head.As with ratchets, I am a firm convert to the flex revolution.
We all have been in a situation where having the right tools to get at a certain bolts is a must for saving time. I’ve found when working on vehicles there is always something in the way and this ratchet wrench set with a Flex-Head box end is really a blessing to have. These wrenches have an Allen key set screw that can be adjusted on the Flex-Head. As a result, this allows you to tighten bolts to the desired pressure that the head will flex. Tightening the Allen key screw will stiffen the head, which is especially useful when you need to access that hard-to-reach spot and maintain a certain angle. These tools are sized slightly longer than your standard wrenches but work exactly the same. This is a large 16pc set that has all the normal sizes starting at 8mm skips 20mm, 23mm and then includes a 24mm and 25mm. The entire set sits well in the holder in a tools box but the larger sized wrenches might jump when carried around with one hand.I do have other wrenches and ratcheting reversible wrenches but these are a must have as they can reach nuts and bolts in odd angles or tight spaces with the flex end. I’m glad to add these to my toolbox and they are backed by a GearWrench guarantee.
Pros:1) 72-tooth pawl has a smooth operation2) Swing between ratcheting is acceptable3) very good build quality4) You can tighten the head screws and adjust tension of the flex headCons:1) Not 90-tooth. The 72-tooth pawl is good but I have used gearwrench 90-tooth wrenches and these are not as good as the those. These are still very good but not great.2) the open end does not have a gripping inside the teeth that go around the bolts. This occasionally led to rounding of very tight bolts.3) these are 12-point instead of 6-point making them susceptible to rounding of bolts.Come with a tray instead of a pouch. This can be a pro or a con depending on what you want.Used these to replace the trunk battery in a 2nd gen Toyota Prius. This can be a pro or a con depending on what you want.Used these to replace the trunk battery in a 2nd gen Toyota Prius. I used them mainly to unbolt the ground cable of auxiliary 12v battery. Worked great where a traditional non-flex head wrench wouldn’t fit. Worked fine enough without any difficulty and got the job done. You will definitely feel the good build quality of the wrenches. But these are not as great as their 90-tooth brothers.Summary:You will definitely not be disappointed with build quality or their functionality. They are reliable and the 72-tooth pawl is smooth. Work great in tight spaces. I would suggest you to buy the 90-tooth if you can afford it. If you are on a budget, these are a great flex heads to have.
These wrenches were a huge step up from my normal combo wrenches. The flex mechanism feels very sturdy and the ratcheting seems very smooth. My only criticism is they're quite thick. But that is more of a minor inconvenience than a problem. The organizer they come in is fantastic. Retains the wrenches very well without it being a pain to get them out. Overall very pleased with another gearwrench product
I use these wrenches on a weekly basis and let me tell you that they are worth their weight in gold. Todays vehicles are some of the most difficult to work on as it seems that the engineers who designed them purposefully put every nut and bolt in an area that is almost impossible to reach with traditional tools. That's where Gear wrenches 16 Pc. 72-Tooth 12 Point Flex Head Ratcheting Combination Metric Wrench Set shines. Not only do they provide you with every size needed for the job but their ergonomics, size, and craftsmanship, are second to none for getting the job done. I would highly recommend this set to any hobbyist that works on hard to get to projects.
These are really nice professional quality wrenches. The flex head is a nice feature that, as a professional, i will use often. The wrenches feel nice in your hand and the quality is clearly evident when u hold them. They have already helped me get a few nuts that are historically difficult. I wish that the sizes on the wrenchs themselves were a little more readable buts that really just my preference. These wrenches are great and I would recommend them to anyone looking to buy professional quality ratcheting wrenches.
The larger sizes came in handy within a week of purchasing this set. I bought the 7 piece set GearWrench 9900 first. ($35 at Menards) Then i bought this set. ($59) That was a pretty good set for me but I needed the 16mm and the 18mm that were skips. I bought those for ~$25 a piece on Home Essentials Direct. So I'm about $145 into the set and I have filled most of the stops on this organizer. The remaining skips are 23mm (this set skips 23mm) then 20mm and finally 11mm. I can't find where GearWrench even makes the 23mm and 20mm in this style. The model numbers would be 9920 and 9923. (the sets are 9900, 9901, 9902 and this set which is 9903) The individual wrenches are 99(size here) like 9916 for the 16mm. (the sets are 9900, 9901, 9902 and this set which is 9903) The individual wrenches are 99(size here) like 9916 for the 16mm. I don't think I'm going to buy the 11mm but I may at some point if I need it often. There is a set that comes with this same organizer that skips only 23mm and 20mm. It also goes down to 8mm where my setup only goes down to 10mm. The organizer is pretty nice as this is a really heavy set and most organizers wouldn't put up with the weight. However, the wrenches only go in one specific spot and that is difficult to determine. The little tabs can get damaged and at times you need to put a lot of force into getting the wrenches in our out of it. I took off one star due to my frustration with the plastic organizer. At this point i found that if I leave the spot for 20mm empty the rest of the wrenches fit ok. (picture of this included) I hope it holds up to the test of time. It is specifically designed for this style wrench and the wrenches need to be in specific spots. Therefore, my skips of 16 and 18mm really stood out when looking at it.
