Features: 72-tooth ratcheting box end needs a minimal 5° to move fasteners vs. 30° for standard wrenches. Off-corner loading design on box end provides better grip and reduces fastener rounding. Thin head and beam provide greater access in confined work areas. Size conveniently stamped on both ends of the beam for quick identification. Manufactured from alloy steel for better strength and longer tool life. Bright, full polish chrome finish easily wipes clean and resists corrosion. Meets or exceeds ASME and ANSI specifications. Included rack for storage and organization. Details: GEARWRENCH Original ratcheting wrenches combine the speed of a ratchet with the access and control of a wrench. They offer the ease of 5 degrees of movement to turn fasteners, versus 30 degrees on standard combination wrenches. The small ratcheting box end head design enables access to tight spots where a ratchet won't fit. The open end allows for easier access on tough to reach spots, making jobs go faster and easier. This set is a great addition to any mechanic tools collection.

At $116 plus tax at the time, I was taking a leap buying these. However, I realized that ~$9.00/ wrench is not a bad deal at all for something quality, and I have had good fortune with gear wrench products in the past. I work as a mechanic and use these at least every other day, and I like them a lot. The longer than normal size is a plus, and I was contemplating buying flex head wrenches of the same style, however the straight design and fewer moving parts makes them more robust. Another plus is that there are no skipped sizes- a common pet peeve of mine when buying metric tools. I have not had an issue with these so far and I would definitely buy these again!! First of all I hate when people write reviews about tools they just got in the mail. They're meaningless. Please don't do that. I bought this set August 1st, 2019 and today is September 30th, 2020 today. My review is thus based on a year of heavy DIY level use for my Land Rover rebuild. Right? This has been my only wrench set used for that purpose. They've been used very steadily and I've beaten on them. During the last year I've been working through a Land Rover rebuild which is first of all metric, with 6 and 12 point bolts of all sizes which are often rusted or huge or original or all the above. I've gone through the chassis, axles, hubs, the diffs, and pulled the engine, transmission, and the transfer box. If I have to use a manual tool it's this or a socket. The open faced side never gets used but the ratchet's have all held up extremely well. None have slipped a tooth or broken. No rusting or dust in the gears even with water or grease. The only maintenance they've gotten is being wiped clean before they're put away. I think a good tool is obvious when you instinctively reach for that tool instead of another option and I'm more than satisfied with the tools themselves. I do have an annoyance and that's the case. It's garbage and the smallest sizes always fall out. I'm giving it a 5/5 b/c people give 3/5 stars for dumb things and I am confident I've used this set far more than most people writing reviews here. Hope this helps.

I absolutely love these wrenches. The set I received was made in Taiwan. A set of wrenches from Gearwrench I received about 1-2 years ago was China made, and the wrenches are absolutely horrible. These wrenches are more like the older Gearwrench ratchets, a quality and straight wrench. Straight is no joke, the China wrenches often came with a banana type shape when looking at the end-to-end. I have three Craftsman 26 inch toolboxes. Nothing professional, but I am a DIYer and have no need for the more expensive boxes. The tray the wrenches come in is about 1/2 inch too long to fit vertically in the drawers. The issue exists with all three of them, from an old 80s style, to the 75th anniversary box to a normal about 2000-ish box. This has no impact on wrench ... MoreI absolutely love these wrenches. This has no impact on wrench performance though, so I did not even reduce a star for this. The wrenches themselves are great. The non ratcheting box ind has very thin walls, which if it were not for a lifetime warranty, I would complain about. I do see this helpful in allowing access in the very tightest of spaces. For the reason I purchased this, and I Am sure the reason most others are looking at this, the length of the wrenches is about perfect. I have worked on a few Asian cars now where the bolts are very close to the fenders or other parts of the car. It makes getting a socket and ratchet in there nearly impossible. The length and offer of the non ratcheting box end make this a perfect wrench in those situations. If you need wrenches that provide greater access due to length, give these a shot.

I bought a set of 16 of these metric wrenches on a Daily Deal special. $60 for 16 wrenches is OK (made in China). I've used / borrowed Snap-on tools from friends - different league to this GearWrench stuff. The GearWrench ratchet quality / feel varies from one wrench to the next with these, some stiff and/ or jerky, some very loose - an indicator of less than top quality IMO. There are visible toolmarks on the jaws of the open end, some dings and chips generally, and the quality of the chrome finish could be better. I have wrenches made by Craftsman (old) and Tekton (recent). The old craftsmen are definitely superior to GearWrench, and the Tekton have a much better finish. Bottom line is that if Snap-on are rated as 5 for a benchmark, then I would score old Craftsman 4, Tekton 4, and these GearWrench 3. OK for the $, but don't expect anywhere near Snap-on.

I bought this set to expand my 85988C set. (12 metric and 9 SAE wrenches) These are very long. I couldn't quite fit them in my drawers on my toolbox. The sizes are 20, 21, 22, 24 and 25mm. I do not even think that GearWrench makes a 23mm in this style wrench. (it must be a pretty good size to skip) I like that it has a 20mm. I rarely need 20mm but my other sets skip 20mm so it is nice to have. They are definitely not 120xp or 120 positions in the ratcheting mechanism. They feel more like 60 tooth. (I didn't actually count) The ratcheting mechanism does however feel robust. As with my other GearWrench sets, different sizes sound a little different than each other. That isn't an issue, just an observation. These wrenches are pretty beefy but at the same time, the non-ratcheting side is still relatively thin. This could make getting into a tight spot with little room around the fastener easier. (though you have to have enough room for the long handle) I think these wrenches will make my life easier when I run into large rusty fasteners in Minnesota. These will come in handy for suspension work or anytime I need a large wrench. I used one of these already on an older Mazda AC belt tension setup.

I have the Metric & SAE sets in both regular and extended sizes. I am trying very hard to like these wrenches, but overall maybe I am too much of a tool snob to be in love with them. I will provide a pro/con (this applies to all the Gearwrench (GW) long ratcheting double box wrench sets): PROS: 1) Reasonable price 2) Good chrome and finish 3) Nice holder (fits in tool box drawers perfectly) 4) Overall, seems to work OK CONS: 1) Wrenches are just not thick or strong enough. They bend and flex all over the place (especially the smaller sizes under about 17mm) and this can be very unnerving if you value your body parts. 2) Fit is not the best. This series of GW's has more slop in the fixed box end than ANY of the box ends on my other 12 point wrenches (I have Proto, SK, Heyco, Wright, Dewalt, & Wera besides GW). 3) I am having a very hard time believing these wrenches are forged correctly or made from quality steel. I have some pretty nice wrench sets and they all ring out when struck, except for these double box GW's. Though not scientific, it seems like ringing is a sign that the part is stiff and has been heat treated properly. I wonder if these GW's are either made by another method (e.g., casting, sintering, etc.), or just use crappy soft steel (possibly why they flex so much). These double boxes just go "tink" when you strike them on another metal surface. They do not ring out and to me this is a sign that GW cheaped out on these particular wrenches. I have other GW regular combination wrenches that do "ring out" when struck...so it is really just a complaint about these double box sets and not the entire GW line. 4) Returned 2 sets for bent wrenches out of the box...poor quality control. But, I have also had this problem with the "premium" brands as well. If GW would make these have a thicker beam and better tolerance on the fixed non-ratcheting box end...they would really be a great set of wrenches. As is...only 3 stars. I want the Snap On sets of non-ratcheting long zero degree double box wrenches...but they are simply too expensive for a DIY person like myself ($600 for both Metric & SAE sets).

If you are looking for some extra long, zero offset, 12pt, ratcheting wrenches, look no more. If you have never used a zero offset wrench before, once you do, you'll never go back. Being able to pull straight and not have to worry about the box end rounding off a fastener is a thing of the past. Add to that the length these have, and you'll have pulling torque for days. I'm not a professional mechanic, but have seen the price of these on the tools trucks, and dropped my jaw. The sizes that come with this are 5/16-Inch, 11/32-Inch, 3/8-Inch, 7/16-Inch, 1/2-Inch, 9/16-Inch, 5/8-Inch, 11/16-Inch, 3/4-Inch, 13/16-Inch, 7/8-Inch, 15/16-Inch, and 1-Inch. So stop now and step up your tool game a little bit. Oh yea... They also have a ratcheting end! The thickness you expect from a ratcheting wrench, but nice to just use it to finish removing that stubborn bolt. Although this doesn't have the 120 tooth design as the other GearWrench products do, that doesn't bother me all that much but your opinion may differ. Pros: The length! Zero offset Box end fits in tight spots Ratcheting end no skipped sizes Price Cons: Not the 120 tooth version (120xp)

The extra length makes such a huge difference. My main use for these is brake caliper bracket bolts. On certain cars and trucks - there are suspension parts in the way directly behind these bolts. You can't get even a normal socket and ratchet in there, but this wrench fits easily. Hello 18mm GM truck bracket bolt! How about the Nissan Altima rear brakes? Hyundai Elantra - where one of the bolts is behind where a lateral link attaches? Non-issue now. How about plain oil changes? Yep - these have become my go-to tool for those too. High torque gets the drain plug off easily with the box end. Difficult plugs are easily ratcheted out with the ratcheting end. The storage is designed to fit in a drawer of a toolbox. It fits my Harbor Freight 26" tool chest perfectly. I ... MoreThe extra length makes such a huge difference. My main use for these is brake caliper bracket bolts. I color coded my wrenches with electrical tape around the middle to make grabbing the right size very easy and quick. Trick - to know which way the ratchet is going to turn - look at the non-ratcheting box end of the wrench - that end sticks out more in one direction - so all you have to do is aim that side of the wrench towards the direction your bolt is going to go!

These are insane quality. I use them every day at work for 8+ hours a day. I admittedly work the ratchet end much harder than you’re supposed to. I’m a bear of a man with brutish strength, and will hook another wrench on the back for added torque in hard to reach places and give it every pound of torque I can muster. I’ve done this daily for 4 months and still haven’t stripped one. Can’t beat the quality with anything short of SK or Snap-on, and with a fraction of the price tag. I’m hard on my tools, and have to worry about many of my tools not surviving through the day. I would be surprised if these wrenches don’t outlive me. I’m so impressed with the quality.P.S.- The 15/16 makes a great hammer in a pinch ;)

This is a great set at its price point. I think any professional or serious hobbyist will go farther per dollar spent with this set than any other. It doesn't skip, and it goes up to an inch. This covers any SAE nut or bolt in the automotive world, and pokes up into heavy duty equipment in a strong way. Not many people will encounter a need for a larger ratcheting wrench.I will give a downside, these wrenches don't have a reversing lever. In my view, that is covered by their price. This set can cost 2-3 times as much on the Sears website, and I would not rate them at that value. But in the 80 dollar range, I will happily flip my ratcheting wrench over for reverse in the 75% of situations that's possible and use a non-ratcheting wrench in the others. (I wish the home essentials direct star ratings would replace either "sturdiness" or "durability" with "capability" or something like that).Don't let the price fool you, professionals look at gearwrench as a serious alternative to the premium truck brands. Whether you're looking for your first set of ratcheting wrenches or your forever set, I do believe these will leave you satisfied.
