Excellent book ..have been learning ** for about a year now, so am self taught . This book is well set out, very useful and fun to use . Wish I had ordered sooner . would recommend for beginners. .

A great starting place for Japanses grammar...

So far, this seems like a really good book for learning Japanese grammar and speaking/reading in general. A great supplement to any curriculum. I'll note what a lot of other reviewers have said: While the book says it's for self-study as well as classroom study, there are many lesson reviews and practice exercises that simply do not translate well to self-study. That's the only real downside I've seen so far. (see photos) That said, I'd really recommend getting this and the workbook as well, as that has extra exercises and is more centered around self-study. Other than that, it is a good starting place right after you have Hiragana and Katakana down and want to move on. Also, it's Elementary level Japanese. So it's more a solid foundation than anything.

Amazing book for beginners

Great quality textbook! One thing that I especially appreciate is that the lessons encourage you to start learning and reading hiragana and katakana immediately, as opposed to only using English readings of Japanese ("romaji") for a long period of time before getting to the letter systems like some books do. A fantastic addition to any beginner's Japanese learning library.

CHUNKY BOOK WITH GREAT INFO

The product was recieved a day earlier than estimated which is always a great thing! The book came with the dust cover, but was a little disappointed it did not come with the dark orange small dust cover with information regarding apps, really not necesary for use of the book its just nice look for the book. The pages don't contain any writing and there weren't any damages made during transit which is also a great thing! Overall this book is great, especially for new Japanese learners. Slow to get into the kana allowing the user ample time to learn hiragana and katakana before making the transition from all romaji to all kana.

Informative enough for both self-study and classroom use.

Very informative, some areas could use more elaboration. Lessons apparently revised from the first issuing of the textbook and includes more casual conversation which is a plus. Only thing I would change is just a personal preference and doesn't detract from the lessons; a hardcover edition.

One of the best learning Japanese language books for all levels!!!

Literally all the material is up to date, accurate, comprehensive, and clear. There is an audio CD that accompanies the book as well as a full and complete explanation of everything Japanese related (Obviously relevant to the material in the textbook) within the confines of this textbook. There is really not any type of negative comment to say about this book. If you are looking to learn and study the Japanese language, this is the definitive book for most people.

Save money and buy from Walmart!

Just got it today ans such amazing condition. Needed this for my college class and for this price it was a great deal since other places are charging for $50! Why spend that much? Everything looks good and in tact would 10/10 recommend buying it!

Step by step instructions and brand new

I got this textbook for my first Japanese language class and I personally enjoy it. Brand new, sealed, pages have hatched in it for quick removal to turn in. My class’s first assignment was to practice the hiragana alphabet and I personally enjoyed that it has you trace the letters twice before taking a go for yourself. The steps really help you

the condition of the book I got was very good, it's pretty much a new book. No writing, pages all very clean and crisp. content very accessible for beginners. that being said, this is not my first exposure to Japanese and I do speak and read Mandarin, but I still think it's very easy to understand and is very helpful for people looking to learn frequently used phrases and language like how to ask the price of something, how to tell and ask the time, how to ask for directions, introducing yourself, age, occupation, etc. To maximize efficacy of this book, you should practice and memorize your hiragana and katakana beforehand.
