We have just started using the Gentle Leader on our nervous, reactive rescue bully, having used a more traditional "back attaching" harness on him up until now. The change has been dramatic and immediate, not just in terms of pulling (which stopped almost completely within a few minutes), but also in his general attitude - he now walks to heel with little or no correction, and seems much more relaxed and confident in his body language. I am not sure why there are not more harnesses available that have the lead attachment at the front... this is the key feature to this harness as the lead attachment at the back creates a perfect environment for your dog to pull. Being at the front it is simple to redirect your dog when they begin to pull and has allowed me control over two large working line German shepherds who are far stronger than I am. It must be fitted quite firmly (more firmly than you would first think) so that chafing does not occur, and there is no padding or softness, fitted correctly this is no problem though. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. My 35kg bull breed is a strong girl. So strong that one time she bolted on lead and fractured the bones in my hand. I was really nervous of walking her again after that incident as I had tried everything to get her to stop pulling, even training with a pro. This harness has turned walking into a pleasure, the dog she is on lead matches the well behaved dog she is at home now, and even a child could walk her. Not to mention she's a little Houdini and didn't manage to slip this harness. I honestly am so excited to take her for more walks! The difference was immediate, no acclimatization needed.

The Gentle Leader Easy Walk Large Harness was a recommendation from a friend with another large dog breed. I'd almost done my knees in with puppies strong pull on normal lead and collar. This harness has been a game changer, its very easy and simple to place it onto the dog, with one clip after over its head. It provides restraint around their chest so stops them pulling insanely and you can easily with out much effort hold lead shorter and control dog without any pulling. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the harness.
I have bought two of these as they are the ONLY harness that are truly gentle and makes a real difference. I have two large Bull Arab x dogs, one was a puller and the other has PSD and would twist, turn, pull back, jump and drop when trying to start her walking. I decided to try the Gentle Leader on her and I was amazed at how quickly she settled, it worked so well I tried in on my big boy and to my delight, it had the same effect. I can now walk them both together with these Gentle Leaders in a relaxed fashion and we all enjoy our walks now. I have more confidence in controlling them both together and I know that my girl who has PTSD will not be able to wriggle out of her harness. She seems to be far more at ease with this harness. Best harness I have ever bought.
I could probably have gotten small/medium but am still happy with the one I have. Fits well and does exactly what it was designed to do. My cocker spaniel Paige no longer pulls on the lead and the pain in my harm is almost gone.

It does exactly what it says it will, which is to reduce pulling on the leash and also gives you more control over the movement of the dog, especially if the dog is reactive to strange dogs or people and lunges at them. That said, it is important to realize that the harness is a training aid and that you still need to train the dog to walk nicely and keep the leash slack. Thus, best is to stop and stand still when the dog pulls and reward him for returning to your side or when he stops straining and the leash goes slack. If he continues pulling you can just turn around suddenly and walk in the opposite direction, the reward the dog when he catches up to you and is in the right position (next to your left leg or at your ... MoreThe Gentle Leader Easy Walk harness is great! This worked great to start with and is a lot easier on your arm than just a collar or normal harness! If you have a very persistent puller then it's still going to be a problem. We've tried all kinds of training, but our pup figured out this harness and still managed to pull when he was determined to! When he pulled it rubbed a lot under his front legs, but fit fine when he wasn't pulling so depends on the dog. We then bought a head collar from the same brand and it's much better! Recommend a head collar instead if your dog is a very persistent puller!
This thing is INCREDIBLE!! We have an 18-month-old Cocker Spaniel who does all the things Cockers do. He pulls, sniffs everywhere, lurches etc. This harness worked INSTANTLY! It's honestly like we have a completely different dog. I am absolutely shook. Shook I tells ya! No longer will there be spilled coffees and crushed fingers. No longer shall we suffer under the reign of an excitable Cocker. We are in control! The power has been handed back to the people and it is the dawn of a new age. A pull-free age! Our 1 y o whippet was pulling in all directions when using a conventional collar. Only holding her lead very short made it possible to get down the footpath with some semblance of dignity. She is very energetic and easily distracted. This harness has not magically turned her into a perfect walker but it has certainly made things a lot better. She doesn’t resist the harness and seems to enjoy walking more now. The different coloured straps make it easy to put the harness on correctly . We had some minor issues with adjusting the fit as whippets are very deep chested but also thin, The plastic clasps were very stiff at first, hard to release but rubbing fine sandpaper fixed that. I’m very happy with this harness.
