I just received this set from an auction. It was new and factory sealed at a substantially discounted price. The only thing that may have kept it off a big store bookshelf, if even worth mentioning, was that one book was placed upside-down. The book case is the same material that was used for the book covers, which is a textured man-made material. Although the description says leather-cloth, It feels a bit like a textured rubber over a flexible, pressed-paper binding. The books measure roughly 6 1/8th x 4 1/2" or 15.5 x 12 cm. The outside cover and spine are embossed with the title surrounded by a scrolled border and the G.R.R.M author icon shown in the images, The inside cover says it is a 2015 Special Boxed Bantam Edition. Artwork is included of two maps of the North and South realms before the first chapter and close up maps of each realm scattered throughout the books. Each chapter has a nice scroll design on the top of the pages. Apart from the title headings, the rest of the print is pretty small coming in at around 3/32" or about 2mm which is to be expected for content this large in books this size; I'll be using my glasses. At the back of the books are an appendix, an acknowledgements page and a page about the author. It's a nice set to have on a shelf for a reasonable price that won't take up too much room.

I heard all the hype about the show, and was unsurprised to find the tv series not so spectacular... Usually if everybody likes something, it's not good. To appeal to the average, you must alienate the discerning, and the show was no exception. I came across the first book in the series at a book sale for .25 cents, so I gave it a read...and loved it. I'm now into the second, and it's just as good! I'm a fan of Tolkien, and I think it's fair to say that Martin is in the same league. This is a well written, well thought out history of a fantasy realm, populated by peoples often paralleling our present planet. The nomadic Dothraki with their Khal (suggests the Khalif of Islamic history), the Caucasian, bearded Northmen (Anglo warriors of old)- this is a fantasy world ... MoreI heard all the hype about the show, and was unsurprised to find the tv series not so spectacular... The story quickly immerses you in this world of Martin's making, with rich detail and masterful writing. This collection of novels is wonderful, and will surely stand as a classic work of fiction. I find myself dreading to finish, this is one story you don't want to reach the conclusion of. Alas, it must end, as all tales do!

I love this series! I feel like it has the perfect balance of character development, plot, and sense of adventure. Don't let the GOT haters make you think it's all about rated R inappropriateness because it is a lot more complex than that.Anyways, I ordered the books because I came across the HBO series by accident and binged watched it to the last season (waiting for the last season to start in July). I ordered these books without paying attention to the reviews. Shame on me. These books are very small in size, yet very thick in pages. Horribly combination. The print is so small, you have to have the right lighting to not get a headache. I always end up losing my page. Also, the books come in a little GOT series holder box thing that you can keep them in. I've ... MoreI love this series! Great series... try a different size in books though.

The books start out with maps so that you can get a better understanding of the locations. If you watched the show and are a fan, these books are a must read. Although many things are the same, so much more details are given that you wouldn't know without reading the books. You'll learn more about the characters such as their true ages. You'll learn more about everything. It's just way too much to list. Read these. You'll only wish you had read them sooner. I can't say enough good things about this author. He's a legend. The books are really long but that's just because it's such a detailed story, one that took five books to tell. They are great!!! You'll be hooked from the beginning.
The books I received were exactly as shown in the photo. I haven’t read them but the quality of the physical books is good. They have a shine to the cover not matte like other paperbacks. I think if you read these each a few times with proper care I believe they would maintain a decent condition. And of course, this price cannot be beat!
Got the product and it’s in good condition the only issue is that it is NOT the paperback I thought it would be... this set is of the mass market GOT books, not regular paperback. The only difference is the mass market is smaller book sizes. I’m was initially annoyed but I can deal with it since I have pretty small hands and can handle the more compressed text. I’m just bothered that no where does it say that this set is the mass market box set... also this mass market set is actually pricier than compared to the other mass market sets available... the only reason I will be giving this product 3 stars is because the shipping was quick and the product came undamaged. Also because while not the GoT bookset I thought it was.... I did get a GoT bookset
PRO: It looks nice as a book set and I got it at a great price.CONS: The text it is too close to the spine as it is a compact print. The pages are glued and the spine is easy to bend to open the book and read, but these are big books and may loose some pages before you end each of them. The compact prints are not appropriate for books sets in my opinion. It should be reserved for isolated books and clearly mentioned they are done this way. A picture of the book open should help the buyer decide if they want this type of print.
I first read the Game of Thrones set before the HBO series began. I found the first four noviels in the local library and tore through them non-stop. I waited for years for the fifth book and eventually heard about it after HBO picked it up. But the other life intervened and the bloom was past and I never picked it up. Recently we bought the first six seasons and again tore through this fascinating epic. Since we don't get HBO, we now sit waiting -- and I thought, what a good time to re-read the books. eBay to the rescue! Saved a bundle and got the set in perfect new condition. I had actually started re-watching the HBO series (to help with the semi-withdrawal) when I realized that now is the time to re-read the books first. I had actually started re-watching the HBO series (to help with the semi-withdrawal) when I realized that now is the time to re-read the books first. What a great decision that has proved to be!! The Game of a Thrones is a big, sprawling epic and, for me at least, it was difficult on first read to keep all the characters, settings and stories straight. Having seen the series, the characters are now more vivid, more full of life and fit so well with the novels -- that is a rather rare experience. Having faces to put with the characters, in this case, actually helps. And even the few mismatched descriptions (most are spot-on!) don't bother the narrative. Would I feel the same if this weremy first read having seen the HBO series first? I'm not sure, but I do find it immensely satisfying and VERY "immersive" to have the previous reading as well as the series to draw on to support my current life with the Song of Fire and Ice. Regardless, first read, second or even more, I can only recommend these books -- among the best of fantasy ever written.
You can't beat the price on this package. If you've been thinking about it, now's the time to buy. This series appeals to more than just fantasy lovers. It lures you in with humanity, political intrigue, massive piles of character development, heartbreak, triumphs, and dragons.I'd been urged to read the books because I'd "Like them if I tried them." After the first episode of the show aired, I borrowed them immediately and plowed through every book that was available. Now that Dance with Dragons is in paperback, I decided to buy this pack to hold me over until the next book.If you consider yourself a casual reader, don't be daunted by these thousand-page monsters. You'll eat them up and be hungry for more before you know it. And since they're in paperback, you ... MoreYou can't beat the price on this package. The individual MSRP for these is $9.99 each.If you have any interest in the TV show or are just looking for something new to read, this is definitely something you want to add to your cart.
this is a gift from my son for Christmas. I had already watched the series on HBO but my husband had not. He has been watching the cd recordings and asking me questions about what he is watching. it seems as if this set is not exactly like the series and that a lot of it has been skipped. It is very disjointed. it goes from one cd to the next with a lot of content missing. this is true for all seasons. one example is where the dragon queen goes into the fire with the eggs and comes out with 3 dragons and not burned. the fight where the mountain is killed, does not show but next cd shows the imp on the run for killing the king. nothing shown for any of that.
