Was eager to get out to Nordegg with my new saw. Zipped through the first log but then the blade kept coming loose. Kept tightening it - kept coming loose. The screw that adjusts tension stripped. I’ll be 1st in line after Covid lockdown to exchange for a different model.

I agree with another reviewer here who raised concerns regarding the threaded hook that holds the blade in place. It is fairly loose and could easily fall out and so could the barrel that it screws into. So, I too have added a bit of teflon tape to make it a bit tighter. Other than that, seems to be a good item. Since the last review was posted 4 years ago, it's too bad that this hasn't been modified by now. I'm thinking that it's not necessary to have the hook be adjustable by having threads, as other similar saws don't require such adjustments. My 2 cents.

Quite good for the price. Cuts fine as long as you don't push it. Like all tools, there is a good way and a "less" good way to use it. It is lighter duty so take that into account when deciding on what you need/want to cut in the bush. Had no trouble cutting 4" (100mm) branch - dry, old wood can be a challenge though.

I bought this saw to use on multi-day canoe trips with the hope that we'd be able to process larger pieces of firewood faster than a with a straight handled saw. On the first night of a 4 day trip through Algonquin Park the metal on the inside of the forward hinge started to bend, causing the angle to move from about 115 degrees to about 100. This reduced the distance between the two attachment points for blade and caused it to loosen to the point where it would shift back and forth over a centimeter and bend on itself with each stroke. This rendered it almost useless and probably would have produced a nasty cut if the blade snapped. I am a very good Gerber customer but this product really let me down when it counted most. Their engineers need to take another look.
Light weight and rugged. I have used this saw a number of times and I have yet to have any problems. The blade is sturdy and doesn't bend, and it folds up super fast. This saw cuts very quickly and smoothly and I haven't had it bind up on me yet. This saw is FAR superior to anything I have used before. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a light weight backwoods option.Only downside is that it's a bit complicated to open on the first try but after that it's a breeze.
Bit of a learning curve setting it up, make sure to turn in the screw to tighten the blade. Perfect for firewood collection. Used it to cut 20cm dia log with ease. Compact and light enough for overnight hiking.
Sharp saw but expect a short draw length. Customer service was excellent! My saw was missing a critical piece and I was shipped a replacement without question. Will continue to shop with gohunt for years to come!
I thought I’d upgrade from my cheap $30 folding saw. However the folding saw cuts more effectively. The blade on this saw is super narrow which just doesn’t work we on rugged branches in the bush. Where most other folding saw have a thicker blade that will cut through anything. Besides that, overall build quality is good, besides the blade.
Bullet points:- stores compactly- deploys easily (with a bit of practice)- takes STANDARD 12" saw bladesWith the Gerber FreeScape Camp Saw, you aren't buying into a "Gillette model" of proprietary replacement parts: it takes off-the-shelf, 12" saw blades, available at any hardware store.Even with a slightly higher purchase price, the fact that you can use cheap, off-the-shelf replacement blades makes the Gerber less costly to own.The design of the Gerber - a quadralateral - allows full use of the blade. Other designs that form a triangle with the blade result in an acute angle that interferes with the last inch or three of the blade.Forget the Sven folding saws; get the Gerber.
no complaints about the saw. cuts clean and quick. logs bigger than about 7" diameter are a challenge because of the small clearance between the blade and frame, but for small campfires there is really no need for logs bigger than that.
