Gerber StrongArm Fixed Blade Knife

(359 reviews)

The Gerber Strongarm is an impressive bushcraft and survival knife. With a 420HC steel fixed blade and a diamond-texture rubberised handle, the Strongarm is a knife you can rely on. The knife shows its versatility through a striking pommel at the base of the handle for essential campsite work and emergency situations. No need to worry about the wear and tear of general outdoors use damaging the StrongArm, a ceramic coating prevents corrosion on the blade for a long life and continued use. The modular sheath is as important as the knife itself. With the sheath’s snap-together components, the operator can mount the knife vertically on MOLLE, horizontally on a standard 1.75” belt or in a traditional drop-leg belt mount fashion.

There are so many videos online about the performance of the Strongarm. It's tough, functional and never disappoints! Many respected influencers/reviewers would include the Strongarm in the "if you could only have three survival tools" group. I keep one on my nightstand for, well you know, tactical reasons should they arise. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with the Strongarm for the price point. They used to be a lot cheaper and with popularity, the price has risen. That should tell you something.

Awesome knife. My favorite EDC.

One of the best fixed blades out there. Tough as nails while taking a sharp edge. Does the perfect job. The handle is just right. The grip is just enough with texture as not to be too slippery when wet. The metal point butt is great for breaking windows in emergency situations. Also good for breaking up bones, wood, debris, etc.I like the idea of having the knife being able to wear the blade horizontal on a belt but I feel the knife is a bit big for that. I wear of my rig. Feels more natural as I can get to it faster.Overall, great knife. This is my second. Had the black one first but love this one, matches my other gear.Highly recommend.BTW, I also carry a Cold Steel but love this better and would rather support Gerber.

This particular knife that I received caught my attention immediately after opening the shipping box. The Gerber packaging was not the package that this particular knife should have came in. The instruction manual was a cheap printed copy as opposed to the brochure type that comes with Gerber knives. No warranty papers either. And then there is the knife. It looks close to the real deal but it is not Gerber sharp out of the box. The markings on the blade are very soft looking and not in the place they should be. The sheath is a dead give away too. I hope Walmart becomes aware of this and bans these folks from selling on their site. Now I just need to figure out how to handle this situation.

Fake Gerber Strongarm
17 February 2024

Be very careful when buying the Gerber Strongarm, they are great knives and usually retail for circa $80, so when I saw one on Walmart for less then half that price, it seemed too good to be true ....and it was.The knife I received was unfortunately a fake, a really good fake but a fake nevertheless. if you're interested in buying a Gerber Strongarm, I suggest you look at You Tube first, there are some good videos which will help to differenciate the genuine article from these very realistic fakes. I received a full refund for my purchase and I'll most lilely buy a genuine Gerber Strongarm from Cabella's when I'm there next, so I know it's the real deal.

I've wanted one of these knives for a while now to add to my collection, and was NOT disappointed! A sturdy, full-tang blade made of tough 420HC steel with a black powder coating to hold down the rust, this 250mm long knife has an amazing grip and is thick, just under a whopping 5mm at the thickest point.Packing a pommel striker with hole for lashing, and (on my version) a serrated edge (around a third of the total blade length) this a tough knife ideal for survival situations where you DON'T want it to fail. It is fairly heavy for a medium knife, at around 210g, but that is the price to pay for tough, stick steel. There is a bonus in that the plastic moulded sheath (with fabric webbing belt-hanger and stud fastener) is VERY light, so overall the knife comes in at ... MoreI've wanted one of these knives for a while now to add to my collection, and was NOT disappointed! Great for the money by comparison

It is 100% a fake clone and mine shipped from Walmart but from the same seller listed here. That said, it’s a quality knife worth every penny. I purchased it to see how it compares to my original $90 Gerber Strong arm knife. The edges aren’t as clean cut as the original, but at this price point, it allows me to use the knife in ways that I wouldn’t use the original one for . I would recommend buying the black one because the all tan one’s sheath straps and actual sheath are two different colors of tan. I will purchase a black one and use that black sheath for both of them. I know what you’re thinking, I could smell the wood-burning from here, I don’t. Condone counterfeits. As well as many Benchmade knifes such as the Infidel 3300BK, balisong 42 %26 51, Bugouts and such. But those are $300 to $500 knifes Even the AKC xtreme EVO Dagger D/A. For $104. Which is by far a much cheaper knife then the fore mentioned. Why not having an array of high dollar well known and some cheaper knives in your collection especially for extreme uses.

Nice knife, but has common quality issues…
2 October 2023

I purchased this knife deliberately as an “economical” field knife, knowing many reviews note the quality out-of-the-box is either great, or often comes up with common issues. Unfortunately mine was the latter:- Blade not very sharp / uneven sharpness along length of blade- Grind of the cutting edge was uneven on either side at the point, had to be reground- Black ceramic blade coating started immediately being scratched by something rough inside the nylon sheathI like the knife, and I bought it for hard use (military) for which it’s well reviewed, but the high chance of quality issues viewed against the price point - wouldn’t lead me to recommend it to others when options are available.

One of the best knives I've owned.

From Buck Knives to the original USMC K-bar and most everything in between- I've owned a lot of knives. For the money this Gerber Strong Arm is excellent. If I had to choose one fixed blade knife, it would be this one.I prefer the versatility of the serrated edge- it's not hard to sharpen at all. Basically, just a few licks with rounded sharpener rod.If you know that you will be working with wood exclusively, the full blade model maybe better suited for you.Great feel and shape, full tang strength for batoning wood. Strong, crisp 90° spine great for fatwood scrapings and the carbon steel spine throws excellent sparks for Ferocioum Fire Starting Rods (also great for Magnesium Fire Bars).Takes and holds an edge well- mine slices thin paper, it's good ... MoreFrom Buck Knives to the original USMC K-bar and most everything in between- I've owned a lot of knives. For the money this Gerber Strong Arm is excellent. Probably Cabela's Best Fixed Blade for the value.
1 June 2023

This is a durable steel blade, tang, and grip. Some parts of the grip may cause discomfort to parts of the hand with prolonged use at one time. You can soften those points up as you see fit. Nice sheath. Good striking with the tang on a ferro rod. Blade can be sharpened easily. Out of all the the knives they offer this one seems to be the best bang for the buck. It's a cutting, carving, whittling type blade, not for stabbing or thrusting. I have it as an addition to my LT Wright Scandi blade, because it's always good to have two dependable knives in case you lose or damage one while in the bush.

Solid knife
9 May 2024

Purchased my first over 3 years ago and the second (for the wife with no serrations), 2 years ago.Looks great, very solid, satisfactory weight and feel to it. From the start there was no concern if it was worth the money. Made in the USA only adds to the satisfaction. Take it on all hikes and camping. Only slight annoyance is the sheath which is cumbersome/awkward to attach to a backpack or belt. The sheath does hold it very well tho, I should know because it often flips upside down with how lousy I attach the sheath.
