A Good Modern Guitar - But Not a Traditional ES-335

I purchased a new PY22 Gibson ES-335 DOT Ebony. It's a fine guitar. It's set up well and arrived intact. But the sound is decidedly different from a traditional ES-335.It sounds more like what I call a "CNC Guitar". A very manufactured sound. Hard with a heavy finish. Also, others were right about the T-Top pickups. They can be icepicks to the ears. Dial the guitar way back.Don't get me wrong. It's a useable sound. It's kind of like a Gretsch G2420.So, if you're looking for en edgy, modern sounding semi-hollow body, this guitar will likely work for you.If you're looking for a more traditional sounding ES-335, then I would suggest a different guitar.

I love the neck radius and feel. The color is magical since it reminds of an era that makes me smile every time I open the case. To me, it's most comfortable playing it with a strap but sitting down is a little tough getting used to since the body is heavier and wider than most electrics. Just be careful not to get the pick guard lift caught on anything since that section looks fragile and if sitting down it's exposed to whatever is in your pocket or in that guitar curve. This Cadillac requires care too so I keep it in the case over night but when in the studio it's hanging on the wall. Room humidity percentages range from 40's-55's. I also own a Blues JR with a pedal collection and this 335 screams, but it's so sweet! So far I'm loving it, I've set up the neck ... MoreI love the neck radius and feel. First review I ever wrote. I would feel remiss if I did not post this. This guitar is the finest guitar I have ever owned--and I own 10. The neck feels incredibly smooth, and the finish on it is beautiful. However, I did change the strings to Thomastik-In feld 12 guage. It gives me the low mellow sound I need for my style of play. The guitar sounds incredible. Can't put it down. I always wanted a Gibson. It only took me 62 years to get one (started playing when I was 10). Bottom line, albeit it is pricey, its worth every dime.

Gibson ES-335 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar Vintage Burst

Guitar shipped UPS. Unboxed it that same day. Was in perfect condition. Gibson hardcase with red velvet interior box candy included a cheap strap, a universal truss rod adjustment tool, literature and a picture of the guitar at the factory. I plugged it in and after a few amp adjustments on the low gain clean side with reverb and delay began to play. The strings are new 10s, it came tuned down for shipping, I tuned it up and played a few licks. The action is low and does not buzz, truss rod is perfect, annotation perfect, finish perfect. The sound is incredibly clear jangly and tasty unlike any of my other guitars. The T type pickups are unbelievably good. I haven't really tried putting heavy gain on it but I did notice the more gain the more effective the tone ... MoreGuitar shipped UPS. Unboxed it that same day. Was in perfect condition. But even clean the tone and volume adjustments are noticeable more than most guitars. Overall I am very happy with the purchase, I believe I will choose this guitar over every other guitar in my collection. I have played every guitar I can get my hands on and the ES 335 with the T type pickups blows every other guitar away. There is no better guitar on the market. Thank you Gibson for this instrument and thank you Guitar Center for your wonderful customer service.

Incredible
10 May 2021

This guitar needs no introduction. I waited years to buy this aka my "dream" guitar and glad I was finally able too. I dabbled with Epiphones which were great for the money but this guitar is timeless and incredible. I love the tone I get with this guitar and the craftsmanship out of Gibson Nashville is top notch.I received a checklist, photo and warranty info from the factory along with a care guide. To me there is not a better guitar out there than this ES-335. Beautiful and great sounding instrument.

Incredible all around

This is one incredible guitar that you will not regret owning. It is excellently crafted, plays like a dream, and sounds incredible. I have been fortunate enough to own and have owned other Gibson guitars in my time, and this one is by far my favorite. It is definitely something that I will be holding onto for the rest of my life. The pickups blend effortlessly into so many different genres of music, and have taken well to a variety of pedals. It really allows you to use this guitar for so many different styles. The service from Sweetwater, and from my guy Austin are second to none. The guitar came set up as expected and was ready to play after a quick tuning right out of the case. And as always, Austin followed up with me shortly after to make sure I was satisfied ... MoreThis is one incredible guitar that you will not regret owning. Perfect
22 May 2022

Overall:I've been dreaming of owning a black 335 since the day I saw Roy Orbison's Black & White Night. I own (or have owned) most of Gibson's electric models, but I never thought I'd be in a position to spend the dough on a 335. I'm so glad I pulled the trigger -- I've finally found "my" guitar and it's worth every penny. Perfect construction, finish, feel, and sound. These Calibrated T-Type pickups are fantastic too -- Clear and articulate, never boomy or ear-piercing. Takes dirt with aplomb!

Simply an iconic guitar
17 February 2022

I play and record for my own entertainment these days and have several guitars hanging on the wall. I guess you could say I have a modest collection of "Professional" grade guitars. The Gibson's ES335 really does not need an introduction to any guitar enthusiast. The expectation is that the 335 will produce warm mellow blues and also be capable of soaring rock solos. There is no disappointment there it meets and exceeds both the versatile expectation that the legendary ES 335 is known for.As for the quality....this example is simply "PERFECT" flawless from the finish to fret board to the bindings. to the hardware. This is a work of art......Did I mention that it plays incredible as well!

This is an Awesome Guitar
8 August 2022

I use it just for my own enjoyment and growth as a guitarist and musician. I've wanted a top-flight guitar for awhile now. The neck is easily playable, even for a guy like me with relatively small hands. It played well for me right out of the box. It is pricy, but then, you get what you pay for. I would highly recommend.
