I received the Gibson j45 custom this week. The guitar is fantastic. The projection, resonance and clarity make it worth every penny. Buying from Musicians Friend was a positive experience due to the extra efforts and excellent customer service I received from Derek White.I own other nice acoustics (Guild Larrivee), this is my #1. Highly reccomend

I am surprised there have been no prior reviews. Maybe this is a relatively new guitar. The standard J-45, both the mahogany and rosewood back and sides models, go for about $400 less than the custom. However in my opinion the custom is worth the difference as it is an absolutely stunning looking guitar. If you are a singer, the tone of this guitar will be a distraction, until you get used to it, because it is awesome. So well balanced and resonant. Does not need to be plugged in. Quite expensive for the hobbyist such as I. But you only go around once. Why not with the Gibson J-45 Custom.

This is the finest Acoustic Guitar I've ever played in my over 55+ years. It is a step above the J-45 in every way. I seriously believe this is a ten thousand plus guitar as it is perfect. There are not many available so get one while you can!
I am a long time player and this Gibson Custom Acoustic is by far the nicest acoustic guitar I have ever played or seen. It is off the charts brilliant in every way. If you can find one (they are usually sold out), get it. It is stamped with "Gibson Custom Shop" so take from that what it is.
I have had a Martin HD-28 and D12-28 for years and have always wanted a Gibson acoustic. I have many Gibson electrics that are great guitars. Recently a friend brought over a 1957 Gibson Southern Jumbo that is essentially a fancy J-45. I was very impressed with it and started looking for a J-45. I wanted rosewood as both my Martins are rosewood. My friend's SJ is mahogany and it has a very loud midrange punch to it. I prefer the smooth full bass and treble of rosewood and was not disappointed with the sound of the J-45 Custom. The fancy trimmings of the Custom is something I wouldn't have typically wanted, but they are a very nice touch.

I purchased this guitar a couple months ago. Had to order the guitar. Now mind you I did want to play the guitar first but put my faith in Guitar Center's return policy. Upon on unpacking the guitar and tuning it up the only thing I can say is WOW sound and beauty. The harmonics, tone and well balanced sound of this guitar is amazing. I own a couple of other higher end guitar's but this one is tops. The rosewood and spruce deliver a punch, volume and well balanced sound. The lows, mids, and highs complement each other. No one over powers the other. Dig into this guitar and you have sustained punch and volume. Smooth out your playing and she is mellow and sweet. Plug it in and the LR Baggs pickup does the rest. I have been a Martin guy and thought it would difficult to replace the D-28. This one does not do that exactly but it has strengths the Martin does not. I have found myself playing this more than the Martin so I guess I prefer it. It is a stunning looking guitar - but beyond that the tone is incredible. It is deeper in tone, like most Gibsons, than the Martin. Maybe not quite as fun of a finger picking guitar as the Martin but still it holds it own against anything I have ever played.
The J-45 provides exceptional bass response and the trebles are distinct without being tinny (as in Taylor). Beautifully adorned with abalone on a tobacco burst nitro finish. Perhaps my favorite characteristic as an aging picker is the extremely comfortable slope shoulder and short scale design. Very nice 'custom' case keeps it snug. I gig out, but this one doesn't leave the studio. I'd be heartbroken if it were nicked, dinged or damaged.I waited too long to buy this great guitar. I've owned nearly every make of quality USA-built guitars and my Gibson J45 (rosewood) custom has become my favorite six-string instrument. This guitar is a looker and extremely well built. I had heard rumors concerning Gibson acoustic build quality; thus I had never purchased one until I played this J-45. This J45 changed my mind entirely and now leaves me longing for a Gibby Hummingbird.It was not cheap, but then I expected to pay more for a Gibson. Pricing is between my Guilds and a high-dollar Santa Cruz. The two Guild guitars are probably the best kept secrets. If looking for a bargain, the Guilds are certainly the best high quality instruments for the money. The Santa Cruz is a beautiful instrument competing with Collings, H&D, Froggy Bottom and other expensive 'boutique' guitars. In the Gibson, I feel I got a bargain because it outplays/outperforms any other rosewood dread or jumbo model I've owned.
