HhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkkkkkThe new Standard 60s that I received was was being waited for like a scene in a movie when parents are waiting for a stork to bless them with a bundle of joy. Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. As I opened up the the lid of the case I saw bits of gold flakes and plastic. It was the volume knob that had been smashed. I then looked at the case and the bottom of the case appeared to be damaged. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.

I've been eyeballing this guitar for quit sometime in the GC website. Unfortunately, the local GC never had it in stock in their store. I asked the local GC store manger if he can check the other GC stores if they have one available. Fortunately he found a GC store that just received one. So, I drove 2 hours to the GC that had one. Arrived at the GC, walked in and long and behold, there it was on the very top display rack. I asked one of the GC sales rep if I can try it out, he replied that the store just received the guitar and that I'd be the first one to play it. Played it for 30mins, I love the feel of the 60's slim tapered neck and the sound of the Burstbucker pick-ups. I end up taking her home!

Everything about this Gibson is on point. No issues with the body, fret board, binding, etc. The color on the maple cap is beautiful with the blue and some purple swirls around the toggle switch and the cutaway horn. Burstbucker pickups have great tone. The string height was perfect. The case is in perfect shape as well. Everything was great right out of the case, and I didn't have to make any adjustments to the guitar. My Sales rep. Shaka, upgraded my delivery and threw in a Gibson T-shirt and Gibson restoration kit. Definitely get yourself on of these guitars!

I own a number of Gibson LP's, had an '06 Standard that just didn't cut it tonewise or playing wise and sold it years ago. Yesterday, at VIP event, bought a 50's Standard in tobacco burst. It played like a dream, no buzzing and beautiful clear tone through the Deluxe Reverb I was using at the GC store. I was disappointed to see a 1" scratch in the finish just below the pickguard and some dings in the headstock, along with scratches on the pickup covers...Really?? The salesman, a really good guy, with whom I've worked many times over the years, offered to order another as they didn't have any other 50's in tobacco. I decided to buy this one, at a discounted price, because of the way it played and have no regrets. I love the 50's neck. This is my only Standard and will complement my collection of a Studio Lite, Trad Pro, Trad Gold Top, Custom Black Beauty, and Classic. It sounds amazing, no tuning stability issues. I heartily endorse the 2022 Standard 50's...just look it over carefully before you buy!
I just received my new Epiphone 1959 Standard outfit aged dark cherry sunburst guitar. Here is a quick review and thoughts.I am extremely impressed and satisfied with this guitar.- The case is awesome. Exterior Looks and feels high quality. The latches have a nice aged finish and feel nice and solid not cheap and rattling. The interior is beautiful, perfect fit and well padded. 5/5 stars.- The guitars fit and finish is flawless.Literally. 5/5 stars. I absolutely love the satin finish. Its everything i was hoping for. Feels so smooth and the maple top is gorgeous. The neck feels so smooth with no stickiness. The neck shape is just right. A little on the thicker side of that great C shape allows you to get a great effortless control. A little on the thicker side of that great C shape allows you to get a great effortless control. The fret board looks just like rosewood a feels like rosewood.- The fretwork is excellent. The action is excellent. The intonation is dead on. The nut is perfect. The tuning keys feel excellent, smooth and precise. I love that the headstock has an embossed serial number now like Gibson has. all 5/5 stars.- Sound unplugged is fantastic. Its resonant, loud, rich and rings out clearly. All 5/5 stars.I would not change a thing on this guitar. So far I give it a 5 Stars easy.P.s. I bought a new Gibson Les Paul Trad Pro in 2018. Paid twice as much. This Epiphone is way better! It out Gibsons the Gibson.
I have ebony version of 50’s standard.Guitar is immaculate, there is nothing that points to the horror stories of Gibson QC. Frets are perfectly leveled, action is very low., nut properly cut, pain and binding as it should be.Neck profile is perfect, thick but not the famous baseball bat. Not extremely thicker than the neck on my Fender AO60 Strat.Pickups are versatile and can cover a lot of genres. Maybe more Bonamassa than super high gain but still very versatile.Yes, these days they are a bit on the heavier side if comparing to the all kinds of chambered bodies Gibson used to deliver but unless it is close to boat anchor weight, which is for me 4,5kg and above it is well worth.I would buy again if the quality remains the same.
I have owned many Les Paul is the past but I have never owned a standard model. I ordered the Ice Tea version, and the color is gorgeous. Fit and finish on the guitar are first rate. The neck to me feels more towards a medium thickness not thin as I was expecting. Frets are polished nicely, the guitar is such a pleasure to play. The pickups on the 60s standard are a littler hotter than on the 50s standard. The weight on my guitar is under 9 pounds and to me almost feels like a chambered body, due to the lighter weight being that it is a solid body. The case was also high quality, with strong latches and great padded protection, and also smells nice. The case is no longer a TKL case and is made in Costa Rica, but don't let that discourage you. I hope to hold on to ... MoreI have owned many Les Paul is the past but I have never owned a standard model. I ordered the Ice Tea version, and the color is gorgeous. I highly recommend to give this great guitar a try, and that may just change your mind about purchasing one.
I am by no means a Les Paul expert.. I just know the guitar I purchased, and other Les Pauls / humbucker guitars I've had or have. This thing sounds excellent. The action is perfect, the intonation was perfect out of the box, the hardware is excellent, even the jack port has a strong tight hold on my cables. Everything you would expect to feel while playing a high quality guitar is present here on the 50s Standard. The real surprising part, though, is how immaculate this guitar is. I have owned Epiphones in the past, but this is on an entirely different level. I was unable to find any cosmetic flaws with this guitar.. The only thing I could think of, is the grain pattern might not be a personal favorite to some people... Other than that, this guitar has better QC ... MoreI am by no means a Les Paul expert.. (ouch.)The only complaint I could have, but this is with all (non-weight reduction) Les Paul guitars, is that this thing weighs on me heavier than my poor life decisions. This thing has some HEFT. I have 11 guitars around my home office and this is literally the only one that I had to mount its hanger into wood. The rest are anchored into drywall.. I tried this, and it ripped the anchors out after about 30 minutes of placing and retrieving the guitar while recording. In reality though, this is an expectation with a full mahogany guitar and not a true con.
I pondered this purchase for a while, I was debating between the LP and a Heritage. The GC special financing sealed the deal. This thing is everything I imagined an LP to be. It plays even better than my Fender. There was a small imperfection on headstock where debris was caught between coats of nitro and the sprayer missed it. No problem though; the rest of the guitar is flawless. I just want to stare at it.I refuse to let this be a case queen, so I play it a lot. Why buy a guitar and not play it? It's easier on my hands than my American strat, thanks to its 12" radius fingerboard. The Fender has a 9.5" one, so the strings play closer together than the LP. The bridge pickup sounds awesome, but I haven't quite found the best amp setting for the neck. It can't ... MoreI pondered this purchase for a while, I was debating between the LP and a Heritage. The bridge pickup sounds awesome, but I haven't quite found the best amp setting for the neck. It can't match my Fender as far as bell-like clarity, but I have ZERO hum with my LP.I went through it with a fine tooth comb and everything was set up from the factory perfectly. The case was missing the keys and multi-tool, but Gibson sent them to me very quickly after I contacted them. I'm still not used to the tuners, which use a very low ratio. That means if you blow on them either way, you'll go sharp or flat. I really just love this work of art and just marvel at how there are no exaggerations on other reviews as far as these being quality instruments. I can't say anything else about them that hasn't been said, but had to weigh in.
Just for reference, I currently own a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Traditional, an Epiphone '59 Les Paul Outfit, a new Epiphone Les Paul Adam Jones "Veil of Bees" Custom, and now this Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50's in Heritage Cherry Burst. I play heavy blues, rock and some stoner sludge.I've been playing Les Pauls almost exclusively for 30 years now, I've owned dozens of them, both Gibson and Epiphone, I'm not saying that makes me an expert, but it does give me experience, and this new Standard holds its own against any guitar I've owned, past or present. My Epiphones of the past felt more like toys than professional instruments. Not any more.First of all the neck: it's a big ol' chunky handful of wood, and it feels and plays great. My Epiphones of the past felt more like toys than professional instruments. Not any more.First of all the neck: it's a big ol' chunky handful of wood, and it feels and plays great. This is now my favorite neck shape to play. The top is really beautiful, pictures do it no justice. This guitar is heavy, too, almost 9-1/2 pounds, which I also prefer.I also think the Probucker 1&2 pickups sound really good. Just take a few minutes to dial them in. Much better than the 490's that Gibson is using in the Tribute model. (Which I also owned, and sold) I've been playing this thru my Marshall JCM and my Boss Katana, and there is no denying the tone is pure Les Paul. I prefer this guitar in many ways over my '59. Mostly because this has a much nicer top and a GLOSS finish. (The Satin finish on the '59 is pretty underwhelming, but it does play great). Is it a "good" as a Gibson? That varies from guitar to guitar, but it's a great Les Paul at a great price. The hardware and electronics all work great, it stays in tune for DAYS.All guitars have their own personality, I've played good and bad guitars that were the same year, make & model. If you're in the market for a heavy, fat-necked (as they should be) Les Paul that plays great, sounds great and looks amazing, you can't go wrong with this one.
