First off, this is an great guitar! Epiphone outdid themselves with these models. I chose the 60's reissue and I'm overwhelmed with quality and sound of this guitar. Second, I'm so glad I chose Sweetwater for my purchase!! The customer service is impeccable and I know they will make sure the guitar is right/good to go, before they ship it out. I also decided to have the laser/digital set up it up and boy was it worth the money!!! Sweetwater, you can't go wrong!!! (I'm not being paid to say these things) It's my honest opinion!!

Since it's my 1st time owning a Les Paul, first off I'm quite surprised at how easy this thing is to play. Makes it more fun when you don't have to fight an instrument. Secondly, the finish is on it is an eye catcher for sure. The sound of these burstbuckers are absolutely astonishing. This thing has sustain for days. It's quite the heavy monster but that's what Les Paul's have a rep for in the 1st place. I've no doubt that I'll get years of enjoyment out of this. I've wanted a Les Paul for years and finally pulled the trigger and got the bourbon burst and I could not be happier.

This guitar sustains so long I can hit a note, go eat a sandwich, come back and it's still ringing. Not only gorgeous but I've went over it with a magnifying glass and a flashlight and I've yet to find anything but a small tooling mark on the bottom of the fretboard. Very impressed with the Burstbucker 61s, I mostly play rock and the bridge pickup snarls! I have a much older 59 standard and it doesn't compare. I highly recommend this model, and if you're a little less traditional the blueberry burst is jaw dropping

Sound:I play through a very no-nonsense rig. I plugged this guitar into my board, and from my board into a 100 watt Marshall tube head and yup. That's the sound of rock and roll right there. It has a warmer sound compared to some of my other Les Paul's that have higher output pickups, but the 61 burstbuckers here can handle the hard rock and metal style of music my band plays no problem while also cleaning up very nicely as well.Ease of Use:Through the rig I use, it was a cinch to get it setup and sounding exactly how I wanted.Quality:I'd heard and been on the receiving end of Gibson's infamous QC, but I'm happy to report with this example, I've had no issues worth noting. The flame top is gorgeous, the frets nicely polished and leveled, and the fretboard itself being so dark, it almost looks like ebony from a distance which I absolutely love.Value:To be completely honest, even though I love this guitar, it is very expensive for what you're getting. I own guitars in my collection (especially my lawsuit era JP made Les Paul's) I paid a third of the price for and they come very close to the level of quality seen in this standard. At the end of the day, it's the law of diminishing returns and it's up to the individual for where their ceiling is for how much they're willing to spend on the classic USA made Gibson Les Paul. The Wow Factor:It's a Gibson Les Paul Standard. That innately comes with it's own appeal to a certain group of people who grew up in a certain time. Even though I came in a time after, I happen to be among the rare in the younger crowd who absolutely loves these classic guitars and as long as you know everything about what you're getting, then I say go for it.Overall:So a bit of context, when it comes to the type of people who like to buy these guitars/Gibson's in general, I definitely skew towards the younger side. I have been very fortunate enough to play everything from Epiphones, all the way up to a full fat custom shop Les Paul Custom. I also have prided myself on owning a unique collection of Les Paul type guitars from many brands that are not Gibson. However, I told myself I'd be remiss not to have at least one classic standard in my collection and to be honest, I bought this guy not wanting to like it and fully expected to take advantage of zZounds' return policy but darn it, I really fell in love with this guitar.
Sound:Warm lows and clean highs. but I play through a multi FX unit so I can pretty much make this guitar sound however I want it to. Can not stress enough how Beautiful this guitar is.Overall:I received my Gibson les Paul standard 50s in Bourbon burst a few days ago and was happy that zZounds shipped the factory box inside another box. Arrived in good condition. I always wanted a 50s model because of the neck but never saw one that jumped out at me until I found one on their website. Purchased it immediately. The figurine on the maple Is amazing and the bourbon burst complements it even more. There isn’t a flaw on this guitar anywhere. The binding on the neck is perfect. Absolutely no regrets buying this guitar and look forward to many years of playing. I’m so proud of this guitar. Thank you zZounds!
I have owned many Les Paul is the past but I have never owned a standard model. I ordered the Ice Tea version, and the color is gorgeous. Fit and finish on the guitar are first rate. The neck to me feels more towards a medium thickness not thin as I was expecting. Frets are polished nicely, the guitar is such a pleasure to play. The pickups on the 60s standard are a littler hotter than on the 50s standard. The weight on my guitar is under 9 pounds and to me almost feels like a chambered body, due to the lighter weight being that it is a solid body. The case was also high quality, with strong latches and great padded protection, and also smells nice. The case is no longer a TKL case and is made in Costa Rica, but don't let that discourage you. I hope to hold on to ... MoreI have owned many Les Paul is the past but I have never owned a standard model. I ordered the Ice Tea version, and the color is gorgeous. I highly recommend to give this great guitar a try, and that may just change your mind about purchasing one.
For guitars, playability and sound are non-negotiable, but hey, looks DO matter. You must be inspired to pick it up and play - or it will stay in its case. Sure, Les Pauls are heavy, and Gibsons can be finicky - but I lucked out. This is a gorgeous instrument with mouth-watering tones; plays like butter and is very sensitive to your playing style. Gibson quality control has been improving; the standard 60s necks are terrific.Shout out to Nick and Julian in our local M&A store - you guys rock!
You can get cheaper guitars, that probably play as well (or nearly) and look just as good or better, but these latest incarnations of the Gibson Les Paul Standard (50's and 60's) are the business. Owning one of these fulfils a long-held ambition and so far, I'm not disappointed. I would have loved a 50's model but personally I favoured the 60's neck, and since this is for playing, I went for a nicely figured 60's model in Iced Tea. Still needed to tweak the action a bit to suit my personal preference, but that's not an issue. Just wish I bought one before the price increase!
The 60s standard Unburst is a Great Guitar playability and sound is awesomeFinish on the guitar is Flawless beautiful flamed top comes as standard Gibson have really got there act together with their new owners60s neck has a slimmer profile than the 50s so nice to play and the burst buckers sound AmazingAndertons Web site is really good for choosing your guitar photos of the each guitar as they all do vairy on colour tone flame , weight. Overall:Not sure what happened w/the one I received but the guitar was horribly, horribly setup. I opted to keep it b/c I've been searching for a Gibson Les Paul standard for years w/a solid body, 60s neck, nice (unblemished) finish and weight under 9 lbs. You'd think this wouldn't be too difficult for Gibson but a couple of years ago I had to return four R0s between two different retailers b/c they had blemishes, fret issues, setup issues...any two or all of the aforementioned combined. I never received a keeper but for the asking price of those guitars, the flaws were just unacceptable.Fast forward to 2019-2020 and Gibson's release of this '60s Les Paul AAA top for what I could only find as a zZounds edition w/the premium top. I bought mine a few weeks ago when zZounds listed the weights of the guitars and see now that their site doesn't show weight. I'll add the weight listing was a determining factor in my purchase specifically from zZounds and hope that they go back to it. For me at least, it set them apart from other guitar retailers and helped me to make a purchase that I might not have made otherwise. Physically, the guitar I received was spot on and checked off all my boxes. Gibson Burstbuckers have never particularly appealed to me, so I'd intended (still do) to replace them w/Seth Lover or Antiquity pickups and give it '59 rewire. That said, the pickups and wiring in this one are acceptable and capable in a range of the "PAF tone". The 61 R and T are lower output from the Burstbucker Pros which translates to less aggressive, aka more vintage and less modern sounding. Now for the bad: This guitar either didn't get the plek treatment or the process failed and aborted. The nut slots were cut deep and stopped just barely short of being too deep. The low E string was actually too high and there were dips in the top like it was hit with a sanding wheel above the A and the G string slots. First thoughts were to replace the nut but I was lucky enough to be able to salvage it w/some filing and sanding. It had a significant amount of fret buzz. Using a fret rocker, I found the upper register frets weren't level with frets 12, 15, 17, 20 and 21 too high and uneven. There's not a Luthier or a reputable guitar service within a hundred miles, so it became a DIY project to level the frets on a brand new Gibson Les Paul. The emphasis being new guitars shouldn't need this kind of attention. In the end, I'm glad I kept the guitar. When all is done, the fit and finish will be as good or better than any custom R0 I've held. With that, nobody should expect to have to deal with these kinds of issues on a new guitar. It came w/a QA signature but obviously, it's just a rubber stamp. I think a 3 star review is generous and nothing against zZounds, they sell what Gibson sends them. I'm thankful for the offerings.
