Gibson SG Standard Silver Mist

Never played an SG before but always fancied one, the one thing putting me off was the awful colours. Got tempted when i saw the gorgeous translucent teal version. Great for saturated sounds and far lighter and more comfortable than my LP. Probably my go-to guitar right now. Tossed a coin between the '61 and the normal standard but wasn't bothered about the lack of a hard case and happy with the pick ups and tuners on this so opted for the slightly cheaper basic standard. Very pleased so far 😬

A great Solid Guitar 2.0

A beautiful guitar!490s are as described with upper mids more present. Output seems hotter than 61s - not as much "airy jangle", but more "snap" than a LP. All subjective, of course.Slim taper neck is comfortable; fast, but a bit wide, especially at upper register.I'm a big SG fan and I think this one nails it! Love the batwing pickguard!I think the Volume & Tone controls could use pointers, but that's me.Didn't come with a hardshell case, but points will cover most of a new Gibson brand HSC ... just FYI.With the stop bar set all the way down, the strings are forced onto the bridge bar behind the saddles. Stop bar can be adjusted or string the bar in through the outdoor, like a wraparound bridge. I have always been partial to the Gibson SG. However, I am not a fan of the smaller half face pickguard. I always prefer the full face pickguard. I have 3 other SGs two custom shops, but this Gibson standard speaks to me. I love the way it plays, sounds and the way it came out of the box. I have ordered gold hardware for it and will be customizing it further so it will be less standard and more my Gibson SG Standard custom. I have paid full retail for this Gibson, so I am speaking as a consumer, so the next a paid promotion. In fact every purchase from them has cost me full retail. However, buying from Sweetwater brings you peace of mind. They stand behind the guitar or your purchase 100 percent. This is my 5th or 6th Gibson, 2 of which were CS. Excellent guitar

After having purchased Gibson SG 1961 reissues, this guitar is the real deal. The neck is incredible. The guitar feels solid. The '61 felt a little delicate since the neck is so thin. The Standard has a thicker neck and really adds to it's overall playability. The white color is great too!

Excellent guitar!

I went in to guitar center this evening with full intention of purchasing a Les Paul studio. I currently own a very nice Les Paul traditional special edition which I love in every way! But because of its cost I've been very careful with it, which results in me not playing it as often as I'd like. My solution was to get the Les Paul studio that would give me the tone and feel that I was looking for without the tendency to treat it like a newborn. I played a very nice Les Paul studio which was a great guitar, but in the end I still felt like something was missing. I was just about to leave when I spotted an SG standard and I thought why not give this a go. Honestly it felt superior to the studio to me. The neck felt better and the clarity felt better. It just clicked when I played it. I'm not a professional, but I have been playing for 20 years now and I feel like I've gained some perspective on guitars. The Les Paul studio felt like a different guitar than my traditional. I wish it didn't. The SG was just what I was looking for! It has an awesome edge to it. It screams with distortion and sounds excellent clean as well. The neck feels great and it just feels like there isn't anything to complain about. It may end up being my go to over the Les Paul! Everything is just as it should be. I love it. No regrets!

Finish flaws and rough fret

I bought this guitar from the Florence KY location yesterday. The set up was awful. I had to intonate, set action and I spent 3 hours setting it because the neck relief had to be adjusted severaI times was told that it set up to spec and after getting home and measuring it was no where close to spec. Upon setting it up I found several finish flaws and a fret that was so rough that I could get my fingernail to catch on it. I returned it today to an employee who was combative and dismissive when I tried to inform him about the issues I found with it. If you're going to sell an almost 2k guitar make sure it's set up properly and do some QC checking before you just throw it on the wall. Frankly it should have never left Gibsons' factory in that condition.

Impressive Instrument

Overall:This SG has exceeded my expectations… and I am a reasonably picky individual. The color is brilliant (I have waited a very long time for a Gibson in this particular color in this price bracket) and the pickups are extraordinary responsive and ‘feel’ great with this particular instrument. Syrupy. Bubbly. Chime without being brittle. Great output. Good resonance unplugged. After adjusting the action and doing the tweaks that I always do to SG Standards (foam wedges under the pickups so they slope with the strings, setup, nut filing (for tuning stability and to facilitate 10-52s) truss Rod adjustment, saddle adjustment, and what not) it was ready to go. I know that sounds like a lot but with many guitar brands it’s a lot more than that . Fantastic Instrument!

Perfect

From the minute it was taken out of the box I knew. This beauty is worth every penny. The playability is exceptional. The weight is light. If you are giving and want something that will sit on your shoulder all night and not wear you out. This works great. Additional, the board plays like butter. You just can't go wrong.

Raucous rebel

The Gibson sg standard has a full, distinguished sound, courtesy of its matched set of 490 Alnico II pickups. These provide a warm paf tone. Further enhancing the depth and low end of the guitar's register is the full rounded neck, which has a touch of neck dive. The plek'd rosewood fingerboard is a joy to play, and coupled with the relatively light body, adds to the time one comfortably plays the instrument. The soft shell case is high quality and well made.

Review of Gibson USA SG Standard in TV Yellow

Awesome guitar.The TV yellow finish looks even better than the pictures.Set up on the guitar from Andertons was superb; in-tune and completely playable straight from the box!Had a '69 SG some years ago and I'd forgotten just how epic the SG really is.The playability and tone of this guitar are just exquisite and probably the coolest colour finish I've seen on an SG.Could not recommend more highly
